Sometimes Bent, Always Breaks

Summary:

Gray’s stint at the only university he could get into on a full ride scholarship almost goes down the drain because he doesn’t believe he should be restricted to certain actions as an omega.

Fortunately or unfortunately for him he gets a second chance at Dragneel’s Ranch.

Notes:

This is the prompt rules for May! I’m having a lot of fun with this one! Stubborn Gray is always a good choice lol

Anyway enjoy!

Chapter 1: It’s Not Enough to Overlook

Chapter Text

“Gray your results are remarkable er” An awkward pause fills the room as he clears his throat “especially for someone of your… status”

Gray presses his lips together, straightening to his full height in front of the headmaster and the headmistress “But there is one slight issue” Gray stiffens at the tone, reigning in his souring scent.

He hums inquisitively, a slight narrow to his eyes “Well it’s… eh um your hmm how to say this?” The headmaster fumbles over his words until the headmistress cuts him off.

Your disposition Gray.”

The headmistress sighs, disappointment in her eyes. Gray wrinkles his nose “I’m afraid I don’t understand.” He says after taking a moment to try and dissect her words.

She shakes her head placing her elbows on the desk and lacing her fingers together “Gray as an omega,” Gray scowls, shifting his feet towards the door. The headmistress narrows her eyes, titling her head slightly and he freezes.

She clears her throat and repeats her self with stern emphasis “As an omega you consistently fall short. Your disregard for our rules is what sets you back,” Gray huffs, crossing his arms crossing his arms and shifting on his feet again.

She raises a brow “Your clothing,”

Rena stumbles through the hall barely spotting a head of midnight blue hair over her books. She wobbles over to him and peaks around her books slowly.

“Hey Gray! That proje— ek! Your.. your clothes!” She shrieks, dropping her books all over the hallway and throwing her hands over her eyes.

Gray flinches, turning slowly “My… clothes?” He frowns, darting his gaze down once “I don’t…” his eyes shift to the bench across the way, his pants strewn across the back of it.

His eyes widen and he turns an alarming shade of pink as he dives for the bench and shrugs his pants on stuttering as he realizes his shirt is on the opposite side of the hall.

“Uh I— sorry sorry I— ugh can you?” He ducks behind the bench waving a hand at the still red Rena “Please,” he begs, a sigh of relief leaving him when she quickly shuffles over to his shirt, picks it up and shuffles back to him to drop it on the bench in his reach.

He pulls it on lightning quick, embarrassment radiating off them both as they scramble to pick up their dropped items, handing things back to their original owners with red faces and eyes glued to the floor.

Gray flusters a little at the pointed reminder, red coloring his cheeks as his posture loosens. The headmistress and the headmaster shake their heads at the same time, but the headmaster continues with a sigh “Your relationships,”

Gray kicks off his shoes as he enters his dorm, leaving the door open behind him for Kegan to follow, he takes a deep breath and relaxes “Come on in, sorry I’ve been kinda busy so it’s a bit of a mess.”

He turns to stare expectantly at him, cocking an eyebrow when he just hovers outside of the door. Kegan looks at the door then at Gray “Gray are you… mental! Alphas aren’t supposed to go inside omega’s dorms!”

Kegan exclaims after an awkward silence. Gray scoffs, pulling out his laptop dropping his bag and collapsing into the couch “That’s a stupid rule besides everywhere else is closed and we really need to get this part done.”

He stares at his laptop as it boots up waiting to hear the tell tale signs of someone shuffling their shoes off but nothing. “Kegan?” Gray calls out after rolling his eyes and shifting to face the door.

Kegan is still standing a few paces back from the door shaking his head and white knuckling his backpack “Gray. Be serious,” he hisses, gesturing at the door “It would be a huge violation of code for me to go in there!” Kegan hangs his head, pressing a hand to his temple.

Gray clicks his tongue placing his laptop on the coffee table and standing “Kegan.” Kegan refuses to look up as Gray strides closer to him “Kegs c’mon this is has got to get done today and you know it.”

Gray slowly puts a hand on Kegan’s forearm, touch featherlight “Please, you know how much I need this.” Kegan sighs, shoulders slumping as he slowly looks at Gray “Alright.”

He pulls his arm away from Gray’s and takes a hesitant step towards the door “But if we get caught I’m blaming you.” He stops to set Gray with an intense look.

Gray snickers and claps him on the shoulder “Sure whatever you s—” Gray freezes when he hears a dragging click, ring out up the stairs with a deliberate pause in between.

He and Kegan give each other panicked glances before he makes a decision.

Gray hurriedly crosses the threshold of his dorm and leans against the frame of the door, taking the doorknob in hand “Thanks so much for walking me home Kegan!” He forces his voice up in volume so the dean can hear it even as far down the stairs as she is.

He can see the sweat building on Kegan’s brow and winces “No problem Gray!” Kegan’s body is ramrod straight and his backpack straps are suffering under his intense grip.

“You know it’s the duty of alphas like me to keep omegas like you safe!” He exclaims with false cheer rocking back on his toes just as the dean reaches Gray’s floor.

They turn in unison to greet the dean with bows, glancing at each other shiftily at the suspicious pucker of her lips.

The dean shakes her head as they stand “Alright alright break it up you two,” she chuckles warmly touching a hand to Kegan’s arm “Well Kegan it looks like you’ve done my job for me so I can check Gray off my list tonight.”

Kegan titters nervously, nodding “Yep you sure can!” He turns on his heel and waves at Gray robotically “Bye Gray! Have a goodnight,” he tries to pass the dean but her grip on his arm doesn’t waver.

“Oh Kegan let me walk you back so you son’t get in trouble with your big bad,” she lets go of his arm to nudge his side with an exaggerated wink. This relaxes them both and Kegan blows out a relieved breath and nods.

“Thanks so much,” Kegans shoulders drop from his ears with the protection from a scolding, the dean waving away his thanks absentmindedly, staring at Gray with a raised brow until he closes the door sheepishly, muttering a soft goodbye towards Kegan.

Gray jerks back, drawing himself up to his full height “Well I wouldn’t have to resort to stuff like that if you would have the library open later!” His flush now powered by indignation instead of embarrassment.

The headmaster levels Gray with a serious stare “Then you petition for more library time Gray,” he sighs exchanging a glance with the headmistress “You’ve been here long enough to know that you can do that.”

Gray winces, deflating with a barely there nod. “Besides that is not the point. The point is you almost convinced a young alpha to tarnish both of your reputations.”

Gray scowls, snapping his teeth “Well maybe if this school wasn’t so gossip focused you wouldn’t have to worry about reputations!” He throws his hands up in exasperation, the flush traveling down his face.

The headmistress purses her lips “And there in lies another one of your shortcomings,” Gray’s lip twists into a silent snarl, a question etched into the set of his shoulders.

The headmistress frowns “Your temper.”

“Hey baby, wanna give me some sugar?” Gray’s jaw ticks at the catcall as he spins on his heel and starts walking the other way. “Hey. Hey! I’m talking to you,”

The guy comes up to Gray’s side, hovering over his shoulder, the nauseating scent of booze emanating off him. “Don’t ignore me you stupid little bitch!” He lands a heavy hand on Gray’s shoulder, jerking him around roughly.

Gray shrugs his hand off, making an effort to keep his face neutral in response to the guys beer breath and sneer. He rolls his shoulder and shifts to turn around again completely ignoring the guy.

The guy growls, a shallow stuttering thing cut through with the way he stumbles “Don’t look away from me!” Gray twitches, clenching his fist as he continues to walk away.

The guy scoffs, shuffling slowly to follow Gray “Ah yeah that’s right. I hate to see ‘em go but I love to watch them leave,” he chuckles, dragging his feet and whistling.

Gray’s winces, his body locking up “Oh you don’t gotta be embarrassed, I know what whores like you like,” he leers and Gray could feel his eyes trailing the length of his body.

His eye twitches as the guys gaze lands on his ass and burns into it “Sorry can you leave me alone.” He sighs keeping his steps measured and unclenching his fists.

The guy laughs, harsh and demeaning, his scent filling the space between them bitterly. “Don’t play hard to get now,” he stumbles up and around Gray to face him.

“Your not all high and mighty bitch,” He sneers into Gray’s blank face “Fuck you, your not even that hot anyway,” He grabs Gray’s jaw with one hand roughly with a scoff.

“Stop fucking ignoring me!” He spits into Gray’s face, tugging his closer. Gray’s eyes widen and his hand snaps up around the guys wrist “Get your hands off me.”

Gray glares, digging his fingers into the guys wrist, a slight smirk forming when he winces. The guy snarls tightening his grip “Fuck that I know how you academic bitches get,”

He smirks and rolls his hips lewdly letting his tongue flick out “You just need a good fucking to loosen you up,” Gray grits his teeth and jerks the guy’s wrist down and away from his face.

“Leave me the fuck alone. Last chance.” He face twists as he bares his teeth. The guy scowls, snatching his hand back and trying to clamp it down on Grays nape.

Gray’s growls and smacks his hand away, punching him in the gut and stepping back when he gags, a disgusted grimace on his face “Listen here you bigoted bastard!”

He watches as the guy hunches over and steps behind him kicking out his knee when he tries to reach a hand out. “You are just another drunk knothead who tries to force people to bend over for you.”

The guy drops to all fours, beer and bile splattering onto the pacement beneath him. Gray’s nose wrinkles “You think I’m on a high horse well newsflash dickwad,”

He brings a foot down heavily on the guys back flattening him onto his stomach, biting back a laugh when the guy barely avoids his own puddle of vomit.

“I tried to leave this situation without ripping your dignity to shreds.” He lifts his foot and brings it down eliciting a grunting cough from the guy and a hard gag “I tried to walk away.”

He shifts his foot to kick it into the guys side, a smirk spreading across his face as the guy hacks “I’m not a whore.” Another kick, harder this time “And I’m damn sure not going to let you call me one.”

He snarks bringing his foot back and connecting it to the guys ribs. He takes a deep breath listening to the guy wheeze as he curls into himself.

“Maybe next time keep your hands to yourself hmm.”

Gray’s eyes widen “You cannot hold that against me.” The headmaster pinches the bridge of his nose “Oh yes we can Gray.” He sighs “That behaviour was incredibly inappropriate.”

Gray twitches, “He wouldn’t let go.” He grits, trying to relax his jaw and failing. The headmistress stares at him dissapointment thrown off from the set of her shoulders.

“Gray. You shouldn't have been out in the first place” Gray snarls, straining his hand and flexing his claws behind his back “I can take care of myself.”

The headmistress sighs with a reluctant nod “We are aware but your behaviour toward that man was unacceptable for an omega of your status.” Gray’s eye twitches, his lips twisting to show his fangs.

“My status? You mean my orphan status after an arsonist from this school burned down my town and killed everyone i’ve ever known.” He scoffs, shaking his head despairingly “That status?”

They wince in unison and a grimace carves its way into the headmasters wrinkles. The headmistress narrows her eyes “Watch how you speak omega. You are here on scholarship.”

She slides his manuscript forward “Do not forget that.” The words are quiet but they make Gray force himself to relax. His shoulders slump and he lets his hands fall limp to his sides.

“Ok so why are you bringing this all up now?” He questions looking past their desk to the window behind them, schooling his face and trying to to sweat his scent patch out.

“Well as a scholarship student you must be perfect. But clearly only your academics fit the bill”

Gray sucks in a breath as she speaks, tension crawling back into his body “But because your academics are so good we will do you a favor,” the words spoken like an olive branch capture Gray’s attention.

His eyes snap to her face and she offers a pitying smile “We are sending you to the Correctional Camp for Orphaned Omegas” his stomach drops but his suitcase is already being shoved into his hands, and the next thing he knows he’s on the bus.

“Or more accurately known as Dragneel’s Ranch.”
