Chapter Text
"Fuck." It was a whimper. It was an exhale. It was a declaration of defeat.
She stared. Then she blinked.
"Holy fucking shit." She whispered to herself.
Neji, of all people, would hate her crude language, yet here she was, uttering them as the first words she knowingly said in front of their unborn child.
She looked down at two pink lines, and she felt the sting of tears prickling behind her eyes. She inhaled a shaky breath, setting the test back on the folded piece of tissue on the bathroom counter.
Her heart raced, and her stomach felt like it was filled with rocks. Had she ever felt so many different emotions in a singular moment?
Terror, amazement, frustration, excitement, devastation—they all swirled within her and made their presence known with pulses behind her temples, flutters in her ribcage, heat behind her eyes, churning in her gut, and the uncomfortable stuttering in her lungs from forgetting to breathe.
This made everything so much more complicated, and it had already been catastrophically complicated.
The universe was laughing at her, surely.
Cackling.
ROFLing.
Was it karma for her unrestrained violence during the war? Because it felt cosmically diabolical.
She sank down to the floor, back against the bathroom door and let her head fall into her hands.
For perhaps the dozenth time since the end of the war, she wondered if she was actually trapped inside the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Her current circumstances defied reason, and some kind of genjutsu simulation was probably the best explanation.
But wasn't the Infinite Tsukuyomi supposed to be a perfect reality?
Maybe Madara realized perfect was boring and decided to embed more drama into the dreams he cast.
Or maybe, she chastized herself, she had fucked around and was now finding out.
Now it was time for her to find out the consequences of sleeping with a member of the most insufferably puritanical clan in Konoha.
An entaglement like this with the Hyuuga's was sure to be the impetus for decades of conflict. Yet... her mind could hardly even go there.
She wasn't ready to think about the reaction of Hiashi and elders. She wasn't ready to consider that her child could be scorned and belittled. She wasn't ready to consider the impact this would have on her career or her body.
As Tenten felt herself slowly melt into a human puddle on the tile floor, only one thought truly stuck:
She was going to have to tell a man—a man who didn’t even remember sleeping with her—that she was pregnant with his child.
