Summary:

A prompt fill for SoT week # 1: Anchor.

Work Text:

Even though his magic had manifested itself first, Moth’s connection to the Fade was much weaker than his sister’s. He could perform small feats with his abilities; speeding up his dashes, turning himself invisible, surrounding himself with shadows. Sometimes he could use it for frivolous things like retrieving objects or maybe by amplifying a noise for a prank.

However, his magic wasn’t strong enough to allow him to visit the Fade in his dreams. He could try, certainly, but every time he felt rather like he was floating through nothingness once he traversed the Veil in his sleep. Like an unmoored ship, if he wasn’t careful, Moth could find himself drifting further and further into the inky black of the Fade.

Conversely, Moth’s twin was absolutely amazing with magic. From his perspective, El’s connection to the Fade was nearly as easy breathing for her. She could conjure sharp blades, surround herself with protective barriers, disrupt their enemies abilities, even heal herself and their companions. Her aptitude for magic was incredible, and undeniable.

Whenever Moth felt like he was falling too far into the Fade and like the darkness of the magical dreamscape was going to consume him, it was always El that could tether him. With her by his side, they could traverse the Beyond together.

They had done this since they were children; a pair of orphans within the care of the clan Lavellan. To him, his magical twin shone like a beacon; a bright ray of light in the deep wide dark, and he was drawn to her brilliance like a moth to a flame. As long as Moth had his sister, he was never lost.
