Work Text:
The snow crunches under Kris's feet, and the chill of the strange wintry space making them shiver slightly.
They assured Susie that they would be fine on their own for a while, that what they wanted to do wouldn't take long, at least they hope.
A gust of cold wind causes them to shut their eyes and shield their face as they walk. But as they walk blindly, their foot catches on something, and they fall to the ground. They groan as they push themselves up out of the snow, and turn back to see what they tripped on.
Their heart skips a beat a little.
A big, metal arm with the tattered red sleeve of a suave suit still attached. Kris sighs, their breath shaky.
The rest of Tenna shouldn't be too far away.
Kris pushing themselves out of the snow, and continues trudging through the harsh wind. They finally find what they sought. Tenna's body, lying lifelessly in a pile of snow. He's a wreck, his screen cracked, suit and tie ripped. Small sparks still came out of the holes where his arms should be. One of his antenna is snapped in half, and the sight makes Kris freeze up slightly. They step closer, their eyes peering over the sad sight.
Kris walks through the snow, and kneels down next to the TV's crippled body. They stay still for a moment, then decide to speak.
"Hey Tenna, It's me. Kris..."
They swear they see Tenna shift, even if just a little. The sound of shifting metal is subtle against the harsh, cold wind. Kris shields their face from the flurries once more.
"...Im sorry how things turned out. Y'know, the whole, getting obliterated thing."
Tenna stays silent.
Kris sighs heavily.
"I remember, one night I got scared of the fight my parents were having in their room, and I ran to the living room crying..."
Tenna's remaining antenna perks up a little.
"I heard a voice... your voice. Comforting me. You put on my favorite cartoon, and cheered me up."
Kris laughs lightly and smiles, but it quickly faded.
"Thank you, Tenna. You were there for me, especially when my brother couldn't. I appreciate it."
Kris sniffles a little, a tear streaming down their cheek. The memory is very bittersweet. Suddenly, Tenna's body jolts a little, and the screen flashes on. The screen displays an episode of Kris's favorite cartoon for a few seconds, before the screen glitches and darkens again. Kris chuckles, wiping their tear away quickly.
"Still in there, huh?"
Kris looks at the ground, thinking of anything else to say, when they come up with an idea.
"Listen, you might not like this, but I think it'll be good..."
Kris reaches into their pocket, and pulls out the Dealmaker.
"For the both of you."
As if on cue, The Dealmaker glows, and the one and only Spamton is sitting in Kris's hands. "Holy [[HEAVEN]] Kris! What are we doing [[HANGING AROUND TOWN]] in this [[$2.99 ICE PACK]] wasteland?!"
Kris motions for Spamton to look behind him. He sets his eyes on Tenna's broken figure.
"Aw geez, it's the [[CATHODE]]. Looks like [[TV TIME!!!]] is finally over, huh?''
Kris frowns hearing this, but carries him to Tenna's body, placing him on Tenna's tattered chest. Spamton fiddles with his golden TV pendant. Tenna's antenna twitches in protest.
"Poor [[TRASH HEAP]]! I guess every TV star crashes and [[OH GOD IT BURNS]] at some point!"
Spamton laughs, sounding a little unhinged. But Tenna stays still. No twitches, nothing on his screen. Nothing. This makes Spamton's feral smile shrink a little.
"Huh... it's over. No more [[HATING YOUR CURRENT CRT TV?]]."
Spamton's head drops a little. Kris watches from a couple feet away, shielding their face from any flurries.
"Ha... ha." Spamton grabs Tenna's tattered tie, looking at it. He ran his rickety thumb over it, and seemed to loose his smugness.
"I remember when you [[BUY BUY BUY]] this tie. It complemented you perfectly."
Spamton looks back at Kris, who gives them a reassuring nod.
"You even bought [[NUMBER #1 RATED SALESMEN 1997]] one too, so we could match. Stupid corny [[CRT]]."
Spamton laughs again, but it just sounds forced now.
"Sorry [[TRASH HEAP]]. Im sorry I left. You deserved better, I just [[PANICKED]]. I hope you could forgive me."
Tenna stays silent.
"You deserved [[SO MANY DEALS]] better."
Kris walks back up to Spamton and Tenna. "Spamton, we have to go. Susie's waiting for us. I'm sorry."
Spamton puts his signature smug grin back on. "Alrighty [[LITTLE SPONGE]]!"
He looks back at Tenna. He misses seeing Tenna's beaming face looking at him, instead of his own face reflected in the dead screen of the man he used to admire so long ago. He hesitates for a moment.
"Goodbye Ant."
Right after he says his goodbye, Spamton turns back into the Dealmaker, and Kris put him back in their pocket. Kris sighs and turns to walk back the way they came to reunite with Susie.
But they turn back one more time to look at Tenna, and they swear they saw a tear run out of one of the cracks in Tenna's screen.
