I've been waiting for this

Summary:

Cha Eugene may or may not be too fond of his Moondae hyung. Or, he's just really obsessed with Moondae's ideas.

Notes:

Minor spoilers from chapter 170+ of the novel.

[ ] – Dialogues inside the brackets are said in English. Cos you already know Eugene has a habit of talking using half Korean, and half English, lmao.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Cha Eugene had always thought their Moondae hyung is such an interesting person. Smart, resourceful, a bit blunt but kind and always had Testar’s back. He may not know what’s going through his hyung’s mind all the time with his never-ending ideas and plans, but he knows that he always acts with the group's best interest in mind.

One of the things he really loves about his Moondae hyung is his ideas. Especially when it comes to stage performances, or even the concepts they do for music videos and stuff.

Ever since Eugene saw his first team match with Octoberz during Idol Inc., he never, I mean never, has forgotten that performance.

He still remembers everything vividly.

Right after he heard that creepy humming at the start of their performance, dark figures slowly appearing behind, his eyes solely focused on them. His heart pounding along with the melody of the song. Not because he was afraid that they’d be better than his stage. But because he knew that this kind of stage would be so fun to perform and he was excited.

The urge to perform with them was heightened when a hair rising vocals reverberated throughout the area. It was the interesting hyung from before.

Park Moondae.

That moment there was the first time he felt that he wanted to be in this man’s team. Eugene desperately wanted to perform with this hyung.

“I saw your performance.” He suddenly uttered behind Moondae, making the other man whipped his head to face him.

Eugene observed his hyung as he was faced with a look of confusion.

“You’re talking about the first team match, right?” Moondae’s voice, even when just talking, was velvety. The type of voice you want to hear daily.

He nodded profusely. “Right!” Eugene raised his thumbs. “You were amazing! Let’s be on the same team next time.”

Moondae stared right on. It felt like he was double thinking whether he was genuine but still responded. “If we can... sure.”

Eugene beamed at that, his heart filling up with anticipation from the thought of being able to perform with Park Moondae hyung.

Then, the moment he learned from the third episode that Octoberz’ performance was Moondae’s idea, he was more dead set on being on a same team as him. He definitely needed to be with him.

Although he kept hearing people that he couldn’t dance. Maybe because of the legendary POP☆CON performance he did. No one could change his mind.

So, when he did get to team up with him, as expected, Eugene had never felt more alive when performing.

As he looked at Moondae talking to his best friend Kim Raebin, and the way Raebin’s usual intimidating expression lit up from what Moondae said, he couldn’t stop grinning from way across the room.  He knew he thought of something fun again.

And he was right.

“Hyung!” Eugene, still slightly panting after they finished their Heroes performance, called out to Moondae. His tired hyung looked back at him.

With a beaming smile plastered on his face, he exclaimed, “It was so much fun!” He grabbed both of Moondae’s shoulders. “I knew performing with you would be the best! Let’s do it again!”

A bit startled but still happy nonetheless, Moondae gave him a genuine smile. “Yeah… It was really fun. Let’s do it again if we can.”

In contrast to Moondae’s expression from the first time Eugene asked him to be teammates, this time, he could see how Moondae sincerely enjoyed performing with him.

Eugene grinned so wide his fangs appeared. “Yes!”

Really… Moondae hyung is such an interesting person.

After Eugene had debuted with his Testar members, his excitement had grown much larger as he was still with Moondae. More fun performances! He was going to be a part of his hyung’s ideas and will be performing it with him! Along with Testar!

And again, Moondae had proven himself to be a human idea bank. Eugene stared at Moondae in awe as the man discussed his presentation in front of higher-ups in the company. The concept he fought tooth and nail with his own members and now T1 Stars.

He got the director to agree with the track and concept he meticulously prepared in his PPT. It made Eugene giddy and eager to work on this. Because if his hyung insisted on this, he 100% believed that it’d be great. And it was!

A lot happened after their debut. Comebacks. Events. A lot of variety shows. But Eugene had gone through all that with a small problem he’d been tucking at the back of his mind.

With all the concerts they’ve done, all the performances they did during this, he had never been able to perform with only Moondae. He wanted to have a unit stage performance with him. Only him! With his ideas and concepts for Eugene to use. All for himself.

He wasn’t given a chance to do this as they’d selected their roommates by games and some activities decided by the company. But as of the moment, it’s time to change roommates again and he was willing to win using the best of his abilities. Eugene summoned all the luck he had.

Amidst all the yelling, accusations and lying within the Testar dorms, Eugene came at the top and immediately chose Moondae as his roommate.

“Moondae hyung! Please take care of me! [I’ll be a good roommate!]

The Tibetan fox appeared on Moondae’s face as he was chosen without any hesitation. But Eugene was too giddy to comment on it.

He grinned inwardly. Finally! It’s just him and hyung.

That night, let’s just say Eugene bugged Moondae so much that it has come to the point where his hyung had to tuck him into this bed.

“Eugene, please.” Eugene, who’s comfortably lounging on Moondae’s bed, got his wrist gently dragged by Moondae to his own bed. “Get some sleep. We have a schedule tomorrow morning.”

With Moondae’s sudden touch, Eugene beamed at the man while he lets his hyung pushed him gently to his bed. “Okay!” He said obediently, his eyes following his hyung. [Would you like to lie with me here, hyung? Let’s sleep together!]

Moondae stood frozen in place. His hands stopped above Eugene’s chest covered with his blanket. He could see the older man’s eye widen for a second, then returned to his usual deadpan face.

“Just… just sleep, Eugene. I’ll get back to my bed.”

Even with a rejection, Eugene still flashed him with a wide smile. “Okay, hyung. Good night.” He happily murmured under his breath as Moondae shuts the light.

He could hear Moondae’s small “Goodnight.” and finally closed his eyes for the night.

It was indeed a good night.

All Eugene did for the past weeks was to enjoy his time with his Moondae hyung. Of course, only after doing their day’s work of comeback activities. Performing. Interacting with fans. And more performing.

It was a lot. But for the members, it was always enjoyable doing something they love. Especially Eugene who, apparently, doesn’t run out of energy. Even after performing for hours, his energy still burned brightly during the night.

As he moved towards his shared room, dancing along to their song in his head, Eugene got a slight glimpse of Moondae’s phone, who’s currently lying on his bed.

Eugene eyes widened and a huge grin slowly crept on his face. He lunged at his hyung’s bed and popped his head directly beside Moondae’s face.

“Hyung! You’re watching my video?”

Moondae was watching a fancam of Eugene’s performance during their stage earlier.

“Yeah. You’re good.”

“Hehe. [What do you think? Are you watching it for fun?]

“Yes, that too. And I usually compare it with mine to do some research for improvements.”

His eyes lit up at the idea that popped into his mind.

[Oh! If you want, do you want to exchange some tips? Hyung can teach me about singing while I teach you about dancing!]

“Hmm… Is that so?”

“Yes!”

[And after that, how about we do a unit performance together? At the next concert!]

Eugene had finally let out what he had always wanted ever since. His hyung stared at him incredulously, Moondae’s probably realizing that this was the reason why Eugene chose him to be his roommate. So out of blue and without any hesitation.

Again, with a huge smile on his face and a look that’s anticipating his hyung’s agreement with this suggestion, he stared at Moondae and waited.

Only to be rejected. Much to Eugene’s dismay.

“No.” Moondae outright rejected him, with his Tibetan fox face and all.

How heartless, Eugene thought.

“What? Why??”

“Why do you even want to do a unit stage with me?” His Moondae hyung asked.

“Can I tell it in English?” Eugene wanted to fully express what he wanted. What he dreamt of ever since he saw his Octoberz performance and how he wanted it even more when he got that one time to perform with him.

Moondae nodded.

[Hyung.] Eugene started seriously, making Moondae solely focus on his usually energetic dongsaeng. [I’ve always ALWAYS wanted to perform with only you. I’ve been thinking about it ever since Idol Inc. The stage ideas you’d come up with are all really cool, hyung. I want it too. I want to experience it too. With only me, hyung.]

The sheer intensity of what his younger member said left Moondae speechless for a moment. “Okay.” Moondae finally uttered and Eugene wanted to lunge at his hyung for a hug but was instantly cut off by what Moondae said after. “But!”

Eugene, with his arms out wide, stopped midway.

“Only if the concert stage has decided to have unit stages and a good idea for a performance comes up. Why don’t we talk about it then?”

Eugene laughed and proceeded to hug his hyung tightly. “Okay! It’s gonna be so fun, hyung!” He buried his face on Moondae’s shoulders, rubbing his face on the crook of his neck.

He could hear a small chuckle from Moondae and a pat on his back. “Yeah.”

His hyung is such an interesting person. He might look expressionless but he’s such a softie for his members.

“You’re such a tsundere, hyung.” Eugene muttered under his breath and chuckled.

“What?”

“Hehe, nothing, hyung.” He smiled, still hugging his hyung.

Eugene started barreling Moondae with his ideas and inspiration for their unit stage performance. Not that it was already confirmed, but he knows that it’ll happen.

He suggested a circus stage. One with an aquarium. Or an underwater performance. Never did he think about the budget, as Moondae had always reminded him of, but the inspiration just kept coming and he wanted to do everything with him!

He was basically buzzing with energy and excitement every single day that passed, even the Testar members noticed it.

“What's making you so... energetic, Eugene-ah?” Keun Sejin hyung asked him out of the blue, his arms lazily wrapped around his shoulders.

Eugene let out a small snicker. “Moondae hyung agreed to do a unit performance with me in our next concert. Only the two of us.”

Keun Sejin raised his eyebrow at him and glanced behind at the man who was currently lounging at the living room sofa.

“Hey. I said IF there’s a unit stage at the concert and if we come up with a good enough idea for it. It doesn’t mean I agreed to it already.” Moondae said in a-matter-of-factly way, his face still focused on his phone.

Pair of eyes looked at their expressionless member and back at each other. He basically agreed to it already. They both thought.

“Yeah, hyung. You’re right!”

“Yep, Moondaemoondae. You haven’t agreed to it. Heard that, Eugene-ah?”

[Yes!]

A roll of the man’s eyes was what they received as a response and Eugene snickered at him once again.

When the awaited moment happened, Eugene was over the moon, bouncing everywhere in their dorm with his 6ft body. His Moondae hyung had come up with the most awesome performance yet.

As Moondae discussed the concept to him, he listened in awe. His eyes sparkling with never ending admiration for this hyung. Again, although he looked indifferent, Eugene could feel how his hyung enjoys performing and making all his ideas come to life. It was always magical to hear and see him in the flesh as he explained what his brain came up with.

This feeling in his heart had always been blossoming as he continued performing with Moondae. Admiration, love, respect; Eugene doesn’t know. He just knows that he’s fond of him.

He really really loves to be a Testar member. Along with these amazing people.

And as both him and his Moondae hyung practiced their unit stage together, he couldn’t help but embraced the man when they took a break.

“Eugene.” His hyung gently reprimanded him. “We’re both sweaty. Stop it.” Moondae says but didn’t even put an effort into stopping him and just placed his chin on his shoulders.

“Hyung~” Eugene called out to him in a cutesy voice as he tightened his hold on him. [Thank you for doing this with me, hyung. You don’t know how happy I am to be performing with you. I know this will be one of the things I won’t forget. Let’s do this more in the future!]

He could hear Moondae let out a sigh right beside his ear. But he knows he’s smiling. “Yeah, you already know we’ll do this more.”

Eugene’s body eased into Moondae’s, arms still wrapped around the smaller man, and his usual cheeky, fanged grin plastered on his face.

His Moondae hyung is such an interesting person.

Notes:

Both Moondae and Eugene really had a unit stage performance on their concert. It's canon so if you would like to read it, it’s on Chapter 201.

I really wanted to write one shot each for both maknaes, Cha Eugene and Kim Raebin, that's kinda related and post it both. But Eugene's part got so long and honestly took me a few days. I wanted to share it already so I decided to do Eugene's first and Raebin on the next chapter. Or, simply post a new work and just add it in a series. But here's the first part! I hope you enjoy it!

I wasn't able to proofread this but might do so after completing Raebin's. So sorry if there's any typos or awkward lines.
