Chapter Text
Prologue
Step by step, from the moment he entered the building, all eyes were on their CEO. Chi Cheng was always the center of attention, the spotlight followed him every time he arrived. But today felt different.
He was carrying a baby boy in his strong arms.
Everyone knew their CEO had gotten married several years ago, but no one expected to see him bring his child to work.
The cute little boy with doe eyes remained calm in his father’s arms, quietly observing the people on the ground floor as if they were just ordinary things in the world.
With his composed demeanor, it was clear to everyone, he was Chi Cheng’s son.
Like father… like son...
But, those doe eyes. They didn’t look like Chi Cheng’s. They were softer, more delicate and clearly inherited from his mother.
“His doe eyes remind me of someone.” one employee said thoughtfully.
“Who?” another asked.
“I can feel it. I’ve seen eyes like that before. They look so familiar!”
“Why didn’t Mr. Wu come with the CEO today?” another chimed in, referring to the CEO’s personal assistant, Wu Suowei.
“Is he on leave?”
“Yeah!” the first employee replied excitedly.
“So Mr. Wu is on leave today?” someone else asked, misunderstanding.
“No! That’s not what I meant. I meant… the CEO’s son, his eyes look just like Mr. Wu’s.”
“Mr. Wu?”
“I think so. They’re really similar… doe eyes, bright like galaxies.” Someone else agreed.
…
“Good morning, Mr.—” Secretary Gang stood up but froze in place when he saw the baby boy in Chi Cheng’s arms. Chi Cheng ignored him, continuing straight to his office.
“Is that really his son?” Gangzi asked himself, still stunned.
…
Ten minutes later, Gangzi knocked, then entered the office after receiving permission. He came to inform Chi Cheng that the meeting would start in five minutes.
The boy was sitting in the CEO’s chair, tiny and adorable. Chi Cheng gently lifted him and carried him to the couch, sitting him down carefully.
“Be good and wait until your mom gets here, okay?” Chi Cheng spoke softly. Gangzi was surprised. He had never heard the alpha’s voice so gentle before.
Chi Cheng was clearly a different man when it came to his family.
“Yeah, Dad.” The boy nodded, responding politely.
Chi Cheng asked Gangzi to keep an eye on his son while he attended the meeting. Gangzi didn’t ask where Suowei was. He simply nodded in agreement.
After the office door closed, Gangzi turned to the boy, who was watching him calmly with unreadable eyes.
How can a kid have this kind of expression? Is it Chi Cheng’s DNA?
Even though Chi Cheng hadn’t officially announced this boy as his son, everyone could tell just from the way he carried himself.
Calm... Cool... Unreadable...
“My name is Gangzi. What’s your name, little one?” he asked gently, sitting beside the boy with a smile.
“Call me Baobao.” the calm voice replied, without any expression.
Gangzi tried to lighten the mood.
“Ahhh… cute nickname. I see.” He wasn’t lying. The nickname was adorable. But he couldn’t understand why Baobao wouldn’t tell him his real name.
“Mr. Chi said your mother will be here soon, right? Is she coming to take you somewhere?” Gangzi asked, just to fill the silence. The quiet was making him uncomfortable.
“No… Mom works here.”
That answer surprised him, it left him stunned.
His mother… Chi Cheng’s wife… works here?!
“I’m on vacation. no school. Par-nani and Par-nana are busy. Grandma and Grandpa had urgent work and flew abroad yesterday, so no one could watch me. When we left home this morning, Mom was still asleep, so Dad brought me here.”
“Your mom works here? What’s… her name?” Gangzi asked carefully. His voice and eyes showed genuine curiosity.
Baobao’s eyes lit up slightly, then he replied calmly, “You know him.”
That him made Gangzi’s eyes widen in shock.
So the CEO’s spouse is a man?
Everyone had assumed Chi Cheng’s partner was a woman, an omega woman, because of the sweet vanilla and rose scent that clung to Chi Cheng, blending perfectly with his own dark, dominant smoked wood pheromones.
No one had imagined that scent could belong to a male omega.
“Can you tell me his name, Baobao?”
“I said… you already know my mom, Uncle Gang.”
Gangzi fell silent. This kid is naturally dominant, he thought—just like his father.
“I’ll give you lots of candy if you tell me your mom’s name.” Gangzi offered, not giving up.
“I want marshmallows. A big pack of marshmallows.” Baobao said, arms crossed, staring at Gangzi seriously.
“Baobao… I only have candy with me.”
“Then go buy it. Do whatever you want. I don’t care, as long as I get my big bag of marshmallows.”
“This kid…” Gangzi muttered, staring at his boss’s son. Finally, he gave up asking.
…
Two hours later, Chi Cheng returned from the meeting. When he entered the office, Gangzi gave him an apologetic smile.
Chi Cheng didn’t ask why. He simply stayed calm, his eyes scanning for his son. The moment he spotted him, he understood why Gangzi looked guilty.
Baobao was sitting in his chair, scribbling on a piece of paper.
He seemed to be making a to-do list.
As he finished writing, he looked up and smiled. he already knew his father was standing behind him, watching.
For a six-year-old, he could only write a few words, things he had learned from school or his grandparents.
The first thing on the list:
- Clean.
Yeah… Chi Cheng’s office looked like it had been hit by robbers. Papers were scattered everywhere.
- Eat.
A few candy wrappers were on the desk. Baobao’s soft cheek was puffed out, clearly, there was still candy in his mouth.
- Airplane.
Chi Cheng noticed a paper plane lying near the candy wrappers. Then, he looked back at Baobao’s small face. His expression remained calm. His scent, too.
“Dad.” Baobao said.
Chi Cheng picked him up and placed a soft kiss on his hair.
Gentle. No anger. No frustration.
Gangzi was surprised again. Chi Cheng wasn’t even upset about the mess.
“Why hasn’t Mom come yet?” Baobao asked, wrapping his small arms around his father’s neck.
“He’s not feeling well, so I told him to come during lunchtime instead.” Chi Cheng’s voice softened again. Baobao immediately looked worried.
“Is he okay?”
“He’s fine. Don’t worry.” Chi Cheng gently stroked his hair, then turned to Gangzi.
“Thank you for taking care of him.”
Gangzi hesitated for a second, stunned. Then replied, “Y-You’re welcome, Mr. Chi.”
What the hell…? He didn’t expect to hear “thank you” from Chi Cheng, especially after being left alone with his son for two hours. He had expected blame, not gratitude.
“I want to eat at the cafeteria. Mom said there are lots of delicious food options.” Baobao said, looking at his father with those bright doe eyes.
Gangzi had been trying to ignore those eyes for two hours now. Every time he saw them, he was reminded of Chi Cheng’s personal assistant—
Wu Suowei.
Baobao had the same beautiful eyes as the colleague who hadn’t shown up since this morning.
“Don’t listen to your mom.” Chi Cheng replied, voice low.
“Dad! Just once… let me try it once. Please, Dad…”
“No means no, Chi Yuanxi.”
So Baobao’s real name was Chi Yuanxi.
“I’m gonna tell Mom! He’ll be mad at you for not letting me eat at the cafeteria! You’ll see!”
Chi Cheng went silent for a few seconds, then sighed in defeat.
“Your mom spoils you too much.”
“So we’re going, right?” Baobao grinned, already knowing the answer.
“Where else?”
…
The cafeteria was unusually quiet during lunch break. One by one, employees entered and fell silent the moment they saw the CEO and his son sitting together.
Baobao sat on his father’s lap, eating lunch with excitement sparkling in his eyes, while Chi Cheng watched him silently.
They both knew they were the center of attention. But like father, like son… they acted as if no one else existed, completely immersed in their own little world.
“Like Mom said. It’s delicious.” Baobao said, his doe eyes glancing up at his father’s face. Chi Cheng gently wiped the mess from the boy’s mouth with a tissue in his large hand.
“If you like it, then eat.” Chi Cheng replied softly.
“Dad. Water.” Baobao pointed to a glass. Chi Cheng carefully helped him drink.
“Drink slowly.”
Everyone in the cafeteria was stunned. Watching the famously fierce CEO act this gentle with his child left them speechless. Maybe he was not only a strict boss, but also a good father. Maybe even a good husband. The way he cared for his son so naturally, it clearly wasn’t the first time.
“When is Mom coming, Dad?”
The room stirred. People began whispering to one another. The boss’s wife is coming? They were about to see Chi Cheng’s mysterious spouse for the first time.
“He’s on the way. He’ll be here soon.” Chi Cheng replied.
The same shock Gangzi had felt earlier, after learning the CEO’s spouse was a man, now appeared on everyone’s face. Curiosity grew, everyone was eager to meet Chi Cheng’s wife.
Moments later, someone entered the hallway.
All eyes turned, expecting to see the CEO’s wife, but it was only his personal assistant.
Wu Suowei.
He looked slightly paler than usual. Personal assistant Wu was known as one of the most beautiful omegas in the company, he was striking with his dark hair and those soft, doe-like eyes.
When he was new, many alphas had tried to approach him, until they learned he was already married and had a child.
Suowei had used scent blockers since day one, so no one had ever known what his natural scent was. Most of the time, they’d only caught Chi Cheng’s scent on him. But everyone thought it was just because of how closely he worked with the CEO. Documents, signatures, office meetings… it all made sense.
A married omega working as a personal assistant for a married alpha? That wasn’t unusual. No one gave it much thought.
“Mr. Chi.” Suowei said politely, sitting in the seat across from them.
Baobao slipped off his father’s lap and walked toward Suowei with concern on his little face.
“You still look pale, Mom.” he said softly, taking his mother’s hand.
Now the entire cafeteria froze. Their eyes widened in shock, all staring in the same direction.
The CEO’s son had just called Wu Suowei… “Mom.”
So that was it.
Chi Cheng’s spouse was Wu Suowei.
That sweet vanilla and rose scent they had always smelled on Chi Cheng, it belonged to Wu Suowei.
The elegant, adorable omega in front of them… was their boss’s wife.
What the hell?!
That once... normal idea of a married omega working under a married alpha, was no longer “just normal.”
“I’m fine, Baobao. Nothing to worry about.” Suowei said gently, smiling at his son. He leaned down to kiss the boy’s soft cheek.
He could feel the weight of every gaze in the room focused on his little family, but he pretended not to notice.
“Is the food good?” Suowei asked. Baobao nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah! So delicious! Just like you said, Mom.”
It looked like Baobao wanted his mother to pick him up and place him on his lap, but Chi Cheng gently stopped him.
“Baobao, you can’t make your mom lift you up right now. Come back.” his voice was low and gentle, but with a hint of concern.
“But Dad...”
“Go sit with your dad, Baobao.” Suowei interrupted, helping his husband smooth the situation. He smiled at his son and gestured for him to go back to Chi Cheng.
Baobao nodded slowly and returned to his father’s lap, just as his mother asked.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Suowei asked. Chi Cheng had been staring at him ever since he arrived, his face unreadable, but his eyes full of concern.
“He’s right. You still look pale.” His voice and his scent gave off the same energy: worry.
“Xiaoshuia already checked on me before I came. Don’t worry.”
“What did he say?” Chi Cheng asked.
“The same thing he said when I had Baobao. It’s normal for a...” Suowei hesitated, his eyes full of shyness. He didn’t want to say it aloud, especially not in front of everyone who was obviously eavesdropping.
“You know, right?” the omega whispered, looking hopefully at his husband. But Chi Cheng had another plan.
“For a pregnant omega—” The Alpha said it clearly, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Hey!” Suowei panicked, standing up in embarrassment. Chi Cheng remained calm, but his scent shifted. It was no longer worried. It had turned dark, strong, and possessive.
Wu Suowei had always been a background figure in Chi Cheng’s story in the eyes of others. Just the CEO’s assistant, always walking behind him. Even though he was beautiful, capable, and kind, he had stayed in the shadows.
But no one had known the truth.
That Mr. Personal Assistant Wu was actually Chi Cheng’s wife.
And now, yet another silent announcement:
Suowei was pregnant again… carrying Chi Cheng’s second child.
“No more work starting next month.” Chi Cheng said. Suowei’s expression instantly showed he didn’t agree.
“Wei Wei.” Chi Cheng’s voice softened again. Worry showed on his handsome face as he looked at his wife. He reached out and gently held Suowei’s small hand on the table.
It was a surprising sight. Chi Cheng was a natural dominant alpha. Dominants rarely ask, they command.
But not this time. He didn’t use force. He didn’t order. He asked, gently and softly, hoping Suowei would listen.
“Mom… please.” Baobao chimed in to help his father. So the little boy already knew…
He was going to be a big brother.
And just like that, the quiet assistant faded from the background, no longer just a supporting character in Chi Cheng’s story.
…
“Why didn’t you tell me you’re the boss’s wife?!” Gangzi asked in a panic when he finally got the chance to speak with Suowei alone outside Chi Cheng’s office.
After learning the truth, Gangzi had nearly suffered a heart attack.
“I already told you I was married and had a kid, Secretary Gang.” Suowei said calmly, a soft smile on his pale face. “And you never asked me their names.”
Gangzi fell silent instantly. Suowei was right, he had known Suowei had a family, but he had never bothered to ask their names.
What the hell? How stupid am I?! What should I do now?!
“Personal assistant Wu— I mean, Mr. Chi! Why did you do this to me?” Gangzi nearly cried. Suowei chuckled softly.
“I didn’t do anything to you, Secretary Gang.” he said, placing a gentle hand on his Beta colleague’s shoulder.
“I didn’t tell Chi that you called him a strict boss. And even if I had, he wouldn’t fire you. Don’t worry.”
Gangzi felt like his soul had just been snatched by the devil. He was speechless, completely stunned. He had never badmouthed Chi Cheng to anyone but Suowei. And now—what the hell?!
The one person he trusted to vent to… turned out to be the boss’s wife.
“I’m his wife. And you’re my friend. So, my friend is also his friend too, Secretary Gang.” Suowei said, still smiling as Gangzi looked like he was about to cry.
What the hell? How could he possibly be friends with the boss? This makes no sense at all!
“Mr. Chi…” he mumbled helplessly.
Chi Suowei, unfazed by Gangzi’s expression, walked into his husband’s office like nothing had happened, to see his little family.
…
