                                            leafs?

                                           something’s wrong?

                                                         Delivered

He didn't get it at first, Eyes barely open as he read the vague message.

But then it hit him. He could feel his heart dropped when he saw the message. His breath hitched.

She wouldn’t.

She can’t be.

Possibly.

..Right?

No.

No.

No, it can’t be.

She must be playing around.

Please.

His train of thoughts stopped when he finally reached her apartment.

Her door wasn’t locked. Like she waited for his arrival. With a trembling hand, he slowly stepped inside. His voice is stuck in his throat. His heart started racing furiously out of anxiousness. Muttering endless “Please, please, please..” under his breath like a spell.

Then, his eyes fell on her. Slumped on the floor.

Leafy, his Leafy.

Pills scattered recklessly from a small empty bottle in her right palm.

If only her message wasn’t delivered on time, if only he’s not ignorant enough to look through his phone, wondering who the hell texted someone at 3 in the morning like a moron would. If only he never cared for her. If only he never fucking met her and fell hopelessly for her. Then, he wouldn’t have to face her limp, lifeless body right in front of his very eyes while he could only stares in horror.

At some point, he never realized this day would ever come. Hell, he never thought she would.

He didn’t realize sooner.

His mind went blank. She told him she was getting better, she told him she wouldn’t gave up. She told him, that one day they’ll get their happily ever after. Married, living a new life. Just like their promise in high school. Just like what he’ll say to her every time he healed her new wounds whenever she felt worthless and numb. His eyes full with determination, contrast with her deadpan expression.

But she smiled, faking the same glint for him. Nodded to every faithful promises he would make, that did nothing but made her feel guiltier because she couldn’t keep those promises. She assured him with lies that he willingly take.

Firey realized how stupid and stubborn he was being when he said those promises.

He didn’t know how many times has passed when he stares at her, her head drooping down as she sat down beside her tousled bed, as if she was too ashamed to face him. Her ashy neglected hair made an attempt to hide her face from utter humiliation.

Despite her state, he still looked at her like she was the prettiest girl in the whole world.

Nothing goes through his mind when he slowly approaches her, kneeling down and wrapped his arms around her cold, pale, and frail figure in a careful way, as if she’d shatter if he was being too harsh on her. He gently ran his shaky fingers through her messy hair. He’d be lying if he doesn’t want her to nudge his shoulder for it, and giggled in a childish way after she noticed his playful pout, her usual tomfoolery he secretly loved and adore.

Is that too much to ask?

She was too pure for this world, and God wanted to take the angel back.

Firey gently puts away the empty bottle of sleeping pills in her right hand, slowly intertwined their hands afterwards. Her hand was cold yet so soft, just how divine one could be? He then saw the look on her face, she was at peace, away from her pain and life that decides to be unfair with her.

He let his tears fell on her hair as his silent sobs echoed in the disorganized apartment, letting her know that he’s still there for her, that she didn’t die alone, that someone’s here for her death.

Maybe, in a different universe, the stars will rewrite their destiny better. Where a happily-ever-after has a place for them. Where they were actually made for each other.

The night grew older, but he’s still there, mumbled a shaky final goodbye that she wouldn’t respond to.

“We’ll meet again in a better fate, Leafy.”

..But not in this one.
