Work Text:

Pure Vanilla Cookie stays awake every night. When did he go wrong? He leaves clothes for nesting whenever he can. They stay right where he puts them. Shadow Milk Cookie doesn't nest, he knows. But why not? Pure Vanilla Cookie's instincts tell him Shadow Milk Cookie wants to leave, and that he doesn't love him anymore. He must not feel safe, not with Pure Vanilla Cookie. Pure Vanilla Cookie gets out of the bed. Feeling hollow, he exits his room and enters the living room, pacing. He mutters to himself.

The footsteps wake Shadow Milk Cookie up. He sits up, feeling like absolute mush. He doesn't feel like getting up, out of the bed that smells oddly like Pure Vanilla Cookie, even though they sleep in different rooms. Shadow Milk Cookie hears Pure Vanilla Cookie pace, and then he hears him walking up to his room. The door opens quietly. Pure Vanilla Cookie walks in, his eyes fixated on Shadow Milk Cookie's upright form.

"We need to talk." Pure Vanilla Cookie's voice sounds as cold as ice. Did he find out? Shadow Milk Cookie looks up in horror at him, before silently swallowing and nodding his head in agreement. "You aren't nesting. I want to know why." Pure Vanilla's voice wavers, unshed tears sounding when he speaks. Shadow Milk Cookie clutches the blankets, holding them in place. Good. He hasn't found out.

Pure Vanilla Cookie notices as Shadow Milk Cookie's hands clench the bedsheets, his mind immediately thinking that Shadow Milk Cookie has something he is hiding. He grabs the sheets. Shadow Milk Cookie looks terrified. He pulls the sheets away, revealing a nest. His robes, the ones he thought had just disappeared, were all placed around the sheets and the soft blankets. His eyes widened.

"Is this..." He trailed off. Shadow Milk Cookie looked extremely guilty, his eyes full of worry. Worry that Pure Vanilla Cookie would destroy this nest. Shadow Milk Cookie had a right to worry about this, his past relationship had left him with a fear that alphas were all abusers and would destroy nests if they found them. Pure Vanilla Cookie drops the sheet he lifted up, looking at Shadow Milk Cookie with an expression that looked like he had just won the lottery. "You made this?" Shadow Milk Cookie only looked at him when he jumped on top of Shadow Milk Cookie. Releasing pheromones that smelled of relief, and hugged Shadow Milk Cookie tightly.

"Shadow Milk, you finally made a nest." He nuzzles the other cookie with great enthusiasm. Shadow Milk Cookie stiffens, not expecting this response.

"You... what are you doing? Are you not mad? I stole your robes! I made a nest! Why are you not angry?" Shadow Milk Cookie's outburst was unexpected. Pure Vanilla Cookie looked at him with confusion. Shadow Milk Cookie continued. "You shouldn't be hugging me! I took the clothes from your closet! I stole!"

"It doesn't matter. What matters to me is that you are using my scent to nest and you are comfortable with me. I was... scared, I'll admit. Scared that you were rejecting me. You weren't though, were you?" Shadow Milk Cookie gave him a look. One that said everything. He felt tears starting to form and wiped them away. Then, he hugged Pure Vanilla Cookie back, the scent of blueberry mixing with vanilla. It was all a huge misunderstanding, but now they both finally realized how wrong they had been about each other.
