Work Text:
The leaves fall
The nests appear
Broken, forgotten
Til spring arrives
Grateful for what
Was abandoned
In the cold winds
of autumn.
“Hope is not merely an emotion that comes and goes. It is a virtue, resulting from a conscious, deliberate choice and long practice.” —Mary McDermott Shideler 1917-2000
Consciousness of Battle: An Interim Report on a Theological Journey

(See the end of the work for more notes.)
The leaves fall
The nests appear
Broken, forgotten
Til spring arrives
Grateful for what
Was abandoned
In the cold winds
of autumn.
