Chapter Text
I sighed as I sat down at the entrance of my tent. My feet and legs thankful for the much needed break after all the monsters we’d just faced. I grabbed my lyre, playing it softly, as I look around the camp. The party’s resident barbarian, Camo was talking and laughing loudly as he chatted up Bread who was one of our Druids. It felt like forever since we had a peaceful moment like this. It had been a really long time since I’d felt this relaxed. It only felt like yesterday that I was dancing at balls and gossiping with the other Ladies during tea or court. I miss that part of my old life.
I was brought out of my thoughts as I feel some sit down next to me. “What song are you playing?” Arville, the resident tiefling rogue asked.
“Oh it’s just a little hymn I know. Just a little something I like to play absentmindedly.” I respond. “It’s one that I learned from my time at the Temple.” I add as I continue to absentmindedly pick at the instrument’s strings.
“Oh yeah, I almost forgot that you lived at one of Apollo’s temples most of the time. What was your life like before then?” He inquired.
“You know that I use to come from nobility.” I respond back quickly. I hated when anyone asked that sort of question.
“I know that, but why did you run away? What kind of noble were you?” He pushes, clearly he wasn’t going to let this go just yet.
“What my life was like before doesn’t matter. All you need to know is that I left because of my arranged mar-“
“Your arranged marriage. Yes we know that already.” He cuts me off. “You’re almost being as secretive as Astraea, and you know how closed off she is.” He says, giving a deadpan look. I let out an exasperated sigh.
“Fine I’ll tell you a little bit, but I’m going to be sharing this it’s going to be with the whole group.” I say before I set my lyre back into my tent and stand up. I make my way over to the fire pit in the center of camp. “Alright everyone looks like you guys are going to get a little story about me.” Clearly this intrigued everyone since Camo and Bread stopped their conversation, looking at me attentively. And to my surprise, Astraea came out of her tent and sat down by the fire. Her pet owl nestled up on her shoulder.
“Well let’s get started then.”
