Wind howled outside Hit the Target’s fortress off the mainland. That winter had been brutal compared to previous years making his task harder than usual. “It better not start snowing now. I really need to get those dogs out of there before he shows up again.” Hit the Target said looking out the main entrance. Instead of seeing snow he spotted Fizzy Elephant heading up the path. “What is he doing all the way out here?” He asked himself. Just as Fizzy reached the bridge snow started falling, getting swept up in the wind.
“Sorry for just showing up unannounced, I needed to ask you something, looks like I came at a bad time.” Fizzy said pushing through the entrance. Catching his breath, he turned to the entrance only able to see a small part of the bridge. “Guess I’m stuck here for a while.” Fizzy said to himself.
“This is annoying. If it wasn’t for my sensitivity to the cold I’d be preparing right now. Anyways why are you here in the first place?” Hit the Target asked stepping away from the entrance. With a couple twists of his wrist, he summoned a fire barrier to keep out the cold.
“I want you to come to the Christmas party this year. You can get the dogs inside the house and keep an eye on Stampy. Besides you’ve never had a chance to actually celebrate with all your plans.” Fizzy responded, a bright smile on his face. The suggestion caught Hit the Target off guard. It was almost certain that Stampy would try to fight him if he dared to show his face at the party. Over the years Hit the Target tried to communicate with Stampy through various means, none worked.
“You know how much he hates me. He’s never tried to understand why I’m doing any of this. These limitations prevent me from talking to him directly.” Hit the Target retorted. The only person who might be able to keep things civil was William. Fizzy couldn’t help but laugh at the situation.
Regaining his composure Fizzy turned his attention towards Hit the Target. “You know Polly is bringing Veeva, right? To be honest all of us are getting tired of all this fighting. We won’t let him kick you guys out.” Fizzy said, “you know you can tell me why you do this. I know I may not fully understand but I can still listen.” Seeing an empty seat at the nearby table he took a seat, waiting expectantly.
“I’ve vowed my entire life to protect him and everyone here. All my supposed attacks are meant to get him away from danger, nothing more. Veeva and William are people I’ve been friends with long before I set foot in this realm.” Hit the Target explained not wanting to let Fizzy know more than necessary. As expected, Fizzy got distracted by a new magic trick. Glancing outside the blizzard showed no sign of stopping leaving Hit the Target wondering if Stampy noticed that Fizzy left yet. Still, the storm meant that Stampy wouldn’t try searching until everything cleared up. “This looks like it’ll last a while so you can stay for the time being unless you want me to summon William. To be honest I really don’t want Stampy to get the wrong idea.” Hit the Target said.
“You can get William. Please consider my offer to you, I understand if you decide against it.” Fizzy responded looking up from his deck of cards. With a quick nod Hit the Target whispered something Fizzy couldn’t understand. Seconds later William teleported to the center of the room. With a final wave Fizzy joined William and the pair teleported away leaving Hit the Target to weather the storm alone.
