Work Text:
Vi wandered through Caitlyn’s huge estate—although she wasn’t sure that huge was enough to explain how spacious, enormous the place was. Caitlyn supposed it was Vi’s estate too—Vi’s home.
Vi was coming around that thought and many others.
Vi shook her head, not feeling like thinking about her sister and continued walking to find where Caitlyn was. She had an important meeting today about giving her space up for Sevika, also her first time out of the house. Vi was a bit scared? Protective? Shook? At Caitlyn already having to attend meetings, all alone.
She wasn’t even properly healed. Her vision was disoriented, she was getting used to it, but it was still difficult. Caitlyn mishandled many things because of it, leaving herself incredibly frustrated despite her dad’s, Vi’s and all of the medical reasonings and explanations.
It turned out to be one of those days for Caitlyn.
Vi heard it first, a little sniffle from the bathroom, immediately speeding up her steps.
Then she saw it, Caitlyn was looking at herself in the mirror, eyepatch off, makeup that mostly belonged to Vi spread out on the counter, she had a wet wipe in her hand, scrubbing eye shadow from her eye while a tear fell down her cheek.
The minute Caitlyn saw Vi, she wiped the tear away, acting as if she was alright.
“Cait,” Vi approached with a comforting smile.
“Vi,” Caitlyn smiled back, much less soothingly.
Vi hopped up on the counter, earning a giggle out of Caitlyn. “Want a hand with this?” Vi eyed the makeup next to her.
Caitlyn opened her mouth and closed it before putting her thinking face on. After a minute or so of having her eyebrows furrowed together and looking everywhere but at Vi, she gave her a small nod.
“Wanna cry it out first? I don’t think you’d appreciate mascara running down your face after I’m done with the glam and you look like you could really use it.” Vi lightly and gently said. Caitlyn’s nature to mask her feelings wasn’t exactly the healthiest after all.
Caitlyn blinked a few times, placed herself in between Vi’s legs and launched herself into a hug. Caitlyn was taller than Vi, most times Vi gave her a hug for comfort, Caitlyn made herself smaller to be held, but this—sitting on the counter, gave Vi an upper hand.
Vi looped her arms around Caitlyn’s figure, Caitlyn’s hands finding their way to Vi’s waist. Caitlyn placed her head in Vi’s shoulder. Vi felt Caitlyn’s tears wet her skin, heart clenching.
“I know I used to hate when I got told this and I’m glad you don’t tell me it, but in this case, it’ll be okay, Cait. You just need more time, it has barely been two months since you lost your eye and that stab in your stomach too. You healed more quickly from that than anyone expected and remember what the doctors said?”
“That…I’ll be able to shoot again.” Caitlyn mumbled into her shoulder, voice muffled but teary.
“Yep, and I can help you with this and many other things, you know that.” Vi reminded while placing a kiss into Caitlyn’s hair, feeling Caitlyn nod.
Caitlyn looked up a moment later, wiping the remaining tears from her eye and smiling. “Thank you.”
Vi grinned, “Anything for you, Cupcake.”
Caitlyn rolled her eyes, handing Vi her concealer. “Will you now? I don’t want to be late for this meeting.”
“Fashonably late.” Vi remarked, eyeing the fancy concealer in her hand.
“You know how Sevika feels about me, I’d rather not have her like me less.” Caitlyn replied impatiently.
“Oh, please, she’ll probably be late herself and I’m serious, Cait, if she starts anything, you tell me.” Vi wiped the extra concealer on the rim of the bottle and placed a circle under Caitlyn’s eyes.
Caitlyn sighed, “It’s almost as if you’ve told me this same thing a million times,”
“Whatever, Sevika’s good and all for stepping up for Zaun, but we still have other history with her.” Vi replied, now grabbing the little sponge, dabbing the concealer and mixing it in to blend it with Caitlyn’s skin.
“I suppose so. Don’t use any foundation, I was just looking through everything, I’m sorry I mixed your makeup in here as well,” Caitlyn said, putting away the foundation separately as Vi grabbed for mascara instead.
“I’ll reorganise it, not like I have anything else to do.” Vi grumbled. Turns out breaking her arm in the war meant that even after two months she was forbidden from putting too much pressure on it and that meant she only did little things around the house, like cleaning, watering the plants and cooking, the last one she enjoyed thoroughly.
“Speaking of, technically you can’t fight Sevika if she tries anything.” Caitlyn said with her serious tone she used on incredibly serious occasions and work stuff.
Vi groaned, carefully putting mascara on Caitlyn’s lashes to not poke her eye. “I won’t fight her, I’ll just speak with her with my very respectful words.”
“Violet.” Caitlyn said, exasperated, despite the tone Vi’s heart beat at the use of her full name.
“Okay, okay. No fighting.” Vi put her hands up mockingly, the mascara wand in one hand and the tub in the other.
Caitlyn raised an eyebrow but let it go.
“Anything else you want?” Vi asked, already having her hands on the black eyeshadow that she used to do her own makeup.
Caitlyn looked in the mirror, clearly appreciative and satisfied. “I’ll just put some lip balm on.”
“Wait, really?” Vi gasped.
“Yes?”
“No eyeliner or eyeshadow?” Vi desperately questioned.
“No? I only did that to fit in with the enforcers.”
“Cait, you’re the most gorgeous person ever in any form,” Vi started, Caitlyn’s cheeks turning pink despite not having any blush on, “But can I please try some eyeshadow on you? I won’t make it dramatic or anything.”
Caitlyn smiled, chuckling. “Darling, you’re the most dramatic person ever.”
Vi smiled at the nickname. “That’s a yes.”
Before Caitlyn could protest, Vi was dabbing eyeshadow on her eyelid.
“Aren’t you supposed to do eyeshadow first, then mascara?” Caitlyn questioned, unsure about what was being done to her.
“In Piltie world maybe, I switch it up.” Vi responded in the most Vi-way. “Oh! You have a brush, I’ll use this for that…” She talked to herself.
And minutes later, it was the grand reveal.
Caitlyn looked in the mirror, she had a smokey eye, unlike anything she ever had, but she liked it and especially liked how excited Vi looked, beaming at her work while Caitlyn studied herself in the mirror.
“This is…”
“Dramatic?” Vi offered.
“Amazing.” Caitlyn quickly replied, Vi’s lips pulling up into a bigger smile immediately. “See, love, maybe you can become a makeup artist while you can’t put pressure on your arm.”
“Or a cook, or a gardener, or a cleaner. I should start looking at the brighter side of things, huh?” Vi replied.
“You’re my bright side.” Caitlyn replied, grabbing Vi’s face carefully, reminding herself that her eyesight was still not the best .
Once she was sure she was holding Vi’s face without harming her, she leaned forward placing a kiss on her lips.
“That was a good one,” Vi mumbled into the kiss. “I’m gonna make up a better pick up line though.”
“That wasn’t a pick up line, I was being genuine.” Caitlyn murmured back at Vi’s lips.
“You’re the genuine to my pick up line—I totally win.”
