Work Text:
Looking back on that night it was perfect. Percy and Annabeth had gone on a romantic walk through the woods, the weather was just right, and when they had made it to the beach, they had kissed. It was the perfect everything.
Percy had walked back to his cabin with his head in the clouds and probably a very stupid grin on his face but he really didn't care. It was everything he could have wanted.
Annabeth was walking back to her cabin, dating Percy felt like she was walking on clouds and nothing could bring her down, not even a random quest from a god for no reason, she hummed her way back to her cabin and climbed into her bunk, still on cloud 9.
Percy had thrown on some of his favorite blue PJs and thought about giving his mom an Iris message, but decided against it, he crawled into his bunk still giddy from the date.
Percy woke to an odd sound, he sat and checked his clock, it read 2:47 AM. He was about to roll back over when he saw a woman standing in the middle of his cabin. At first he thought he was just having a dream but she seemed too real and too familiar.
She wore a goatskin coat, she kept a neutral expression but there was a small bit of remorse behind her eyes “Percy Jackson. You have been chosen for a quest. You cannot refuse it.”
Percy was a bit surprised, why was a goddess in his cabin in the middle of the night, he thought he was done with world saving quests for at least a bit, and which goddess was this?
His half asleep mind tried to come up with the answer when it finally came to him “Hera?” the goddess nodded “Child, you won’t be able to return to this place for a long time but the fate of the world will rest upon this action. I do feel sympathy for you”
Percy was starting to get worried, what did she mean ‘he won’t be able to come back for a while’ he looked at the goddess more closely “where will I be?”
Hera paused “You will be asleep for the first part but then you will wake” “thanks thats real descriptive” Hera pursed her lips at Percy’s sarcasm but sighed “I wish I could tell you more but there to much a stake I must take you now.”
Percy thought about Annabeth and the date “What about camp half blood? And Annabeth? How long until I could come back?” fear had started to crawl into his voice and a pit in his stomach that was beginning to feel deeper than Tartarus.
Hera looked at him again with the same sad look “the camp will be fine. And…” Hera trailed off “I don’t know how long until you could come back. There is a war starting and you are one of the key figures to it. Come with me.”
Hera held out her hand, Percy drew back instead “no. I’m not going with you. My life is finally kind of decent and I don’t want to have that ruined by some stupid quest!” He took another step away from Hera.
“why can’t you come back in the morning so Annabeth could help! She and I could help you with this quest but I’m not going by myself. We're a team!” Hera sighed “I’m sorry but it can only be you.”
her hand was still outstretched “please just make this easier for both of us” “You heard me NOPE!” Percy turned to get back into his bunk, he knew that Hera was probably going to turn him into a fish for talking back to her and refusing her quest but he really didn’t care, he had Annabeth and that's all that really mattered to him at this moment.
As he put his first foot on the ladder up to his bunk he felt a hand on his shoulder, Hera had grabbed him, the look of sadness and regret was not longer being hidden but a mask of neutrality “I am deeply sorry for this Percy but It's really the only way.”
A massive wave of drowsiness surged through him, black spots danced in his eyes. He fell backwards, Hera caught him and held him gently. “Its the only way for the camps to come together.”
Percy felt like his brain was being covered in molasses, he was having trouble thinking, the image of a boy with horns and goat legs passed through his mind, the goat boy seemed familiar but the fog quickly covered the boy’s name and then his face, And then the image altogether.
Locations and people were soon all lost in the fog and Percy was left with the face of a girl with blonde frizzy hair and grey eyes. He tried to remember her name, he felt like he had just seen her. . . then it came to him “Annabeth” he mumbled in Hera’s arms.
He held onto that name like it was a life line. Finally a deep sleep claimed Percy. Hera wrapped him in her cloak and they vanished into the night. Leaving no trace of her or Percy.
– The Next Morning –
Annabeth stopped by Percy’s cabin in the morning. She was still smiling from their date late night, she knocked on the cabin door “Percy? Are you awake?” she got no response, she knew that he was probably still asleep but she had a bad feeling about it ‘Percy may be a heavy sleeper, but he is not that heavy of a sleeper’ she thought to herself.
She pushed open the door and found his bunk, it was neatly made, like he hadn’t even slept in it. After searching the whole cabin panic took over her. She grabbed a coin and tossed it into the fountain “Iris I want to see Percy Jackson” Nothing. The coin fell through the mist. She tried again and again but everytime nothing.
She then tried his mother “Sally Jackson” . The image of Sally making pancakes appeared “Sally!” she jumped and spun around “What! Oh it's you Annabeth! How are you and Percy?”
“Percy is missing”
“What?”
– Six Months Later –
Percy woke up on the steps of a ruined temple, he didn’t know why he knew it was a temple and not just a pile of rock but something in the back of his mind told him so. Panic rose in his chest, why couldn’t he remember how he had gotten there, where even was he??
His beats became short as he looked around trying to find something familiar. After calming himself down he saw a wolf stood before him “Child of Rome you will begin training”
THE END :3
