A Moment on the Balcony

Summary:

Another end for yet another tour, yet no moment from it seemed to be memorable. Until...

Work Text:

Yet another tour over in what seemed to be just a blink of an eye. Months of traveling around, rehearsing, and performing really made the time just fly past. However, going through the same setlist each time didn’t really make any specific stop more memorable than the other. Everything always went in the predictable order, one after the other, they’d go up on stage to keep the show going. Routine blurred into the same haze of bright stage lights. And each concert ended the same way— last hurrah and right back onto the road with little between the shows.

And at the end of the whole tour, they usually throw a simple celebration with food and drinks, laughing and catching up on conversations they couldn’t shove into the tightly packed schedules. The hotel room was filled with laughter and songs from the small party of about 12 people. Both the main vocalists and their friends were all spread out through the space; some huddling around the couch and fighting over what song to put on the TV next, some chatting it up in the other corner of the room, and another stood alone on the balcony overlooking the city view. Every city blurred together into this unrecognizable mess— until now.

A gentle breeze blew, carrying the calm silence of the night. The cold, dark sky was warmed by the lights of the apartments and street lamps below, all reflecting in the soft brown eyes overlooking the whole view. She had been out here for a while now, just basking in the muffled noise of the party behind her and letting the cold hit her bare skin— still exposed by her stage outfit. The singer didn’t have a chance to change out of it before they decided to throw this whole celebration together in her room out of all places. Such is the fate she had to suffer with having the bigger room compared to the rest. Heh. At least she still had her little escape from it all,  not having to think with the loud sound of the twins arguing, loud laughter from the teal haired girl and thumping of the bass clashing with everything. Still, she let her thoughts wander far enough to tune out the sound of the sliding door to the balcony shifting open right behind her.

“Meiko?”

The door promptly shut after the call of her name and making her snap out of this trance she fallen into, making her turn around and see who it was. The tall figure adorned in blue and white, gentle smile painted on his face as he slowly approached the woman in red. “Is everything alright?” He asked with a small tilt to his head as he started leaning against the rail of the balcony’s end right next to her, almost brushing up against her shoulder. Her surprised expression quickly shifted into a smile to match, her breath unintentionally slowing down. “Yeah, just wanted a little bit of quiet, that’s all.” In reality, it was the thought of making any sort of special memory of this whole tour that called her out here away from the noise, trying to find something that would make this tour stand out from all the others. In response the blue haired man gave a little understanding hum. “Mmm. You’ve been out here for a while… I wanted to check on you.”

“Well isn’t that sweet of you?” Meiko let out a chuckle, hand going up to cover her face ever so slightly. Did she really pull him away from the rest by her slipping away like this? Hopefully not, but maybe some reassurance will let him return to the rest. “But, I’m fine, thank you.” She let out a small sigh, hands crossing as she hugged herself, feeling the now icy cold skin of her arms, bumps rising on her skin. Wow, she really didn’t notice how the time flew with her being here? She hadn’t even noticed how cold she had really gotten. And only after the realization shiver spread through her body, noticed immediately by the other. Maybe it really was the time for her to head back inside-

She heard a zipper.

Her attention with eyes immediately darting to catch the man shrug off his long white coat, keeping the long blue scarf in place around his neck and revealing the sleeveless turtleneck underneath. “Kai-“ And before she could say anything, the same coat with decorative switches was draped over her shoulder— it smelled like the fog they filled the stage with and faintly of mint. But, most important, it was absolutely radiating this comforting heat.

The brunette slowly blinked with her eyes widened in surprise as she felt her face heat up, looking at the man who returned to staring at the view and watching his lips move with that same smile still present on his face. “Should’ve figured you’d be cold after being here for so long, I would’ve brought you a blanket if it wasn’t for Luka hogging all of them.” He chuckled, a smile turning into more a grin as the blue eyes came to meet the brown ones, revealing a faint flush warming his face as he placed one of his hands on the back of his neck. “Don’t worry about it, I was practically melting in that coat anyway.” Like he knew exactly what she was going to ask about, her head dipping in response, a little embarrassed that he could easily read her… The warmth of the coat seeped into her, the same gentle heat that lived in his smile Meiko simply couldn’t turn away from, grasping the front and essentially wrapping herself in this heavy coat that was way too big for her. Blush spread to her ears now, eyes slowly blinking as she looked down from him for a second, mind only preoccupied by the coat she could barely fill.

It didn’t take long for her to want more of that comforting heat, forgetting the cold of the night as she sank more into that heat. She took a step closer to Kaito, their arms brushing up against each other and she tilted head, resting her head against his now bare shoulder, and he didn't pull away, and only leaned more into her as a response. A smile crept onto her face, eyes closing as she took a deep breath in processing the sweet gesture. Her “Thank you…” was met with a kind and quiet “Don’t mention it.”

They stayed there for quite a while, ending with Meiko fully wrapping her arms around Kaito’s as she got closer and closer to him without a single protest from the man. Neither of them whispered a word as time seemed to slow down with them standing there like this together. Such contrast to the last few weeks of constantly being on the move. Everything just fell almost completely still. The only things that moved was their hair and the headlights below— noise of the party behind them seemed to disappear as well. Only focusing on each other for the moment.

If anything were to stay with her from this tour, it would be this— the cold, the city full of light, a coat, and the warmth of the person who turned the blur into a clear image.
