Back to Latium

Summary:

Back to Latium. A concept album written as if it were a script for a Mechanisms show, this is a story about about a far-flung galaxy that claims descent from The City. Latium, Rome, Alba- all names for this vast, hungry beast of a galaxy. But when the empire has conquered all that there is to conquer and destroy and consume, it begins to eat away at itself, and war rages even in the safety of great Latium. Caesar is dead, Ashes O'Reilly had gold poured down their throat (but got better), and something happened to a guy named Pompey. Nobody really paid attention to him.
The point is, there's a power struggle in all of Alba, and the Mechanisms are here to tell you that story.

Each chapter is a song, voice recordings are in each chapter.

Chapter 1: 'Back to Latium'

Chapter Text

JONNY D’VILLE: Back to Latium. A rural star system, enough out of the way that nobody cared for it, claiming descendancy from The City. Hilarious.

We’d been hoping for a story from that place for a long time, but nothing ever took. Still, we kept coming back, on Brian’s insistence. Said there was something special about that backwater galaxy. I wasn’t convinced, but it was… a way to keep ourselves entertained, if nothing else.

Brian just wandered for centuries, but the rest of us had great fun. I was a king for two hundred years, until some of the Romans caught on about the immortality.

ASHES O’REILLY: Took them a while.

JONNY D’VILLE: It did, didn't it? Marius actually ran an army against some bastard calling himself Sulla, and the Toy Soldier followed along. Ivy was having a grand time, at least, until that library burned, what was it? Doesn’t matter.

I don’t know where Tim went, and Raphaella could have been anywhere by the time I got back from my exile. Ashes… well, what can I say? Always a bit of a crime lord, only makes sense that someone eventually thought to pour gold down their throat.

ASHES O’REILLY: It wasn’t as effective as they thought it would be.

JONNY D’VILLE: Obviously not. Would have been better if you could die. Anyway, back to Latium…
