Ever since they were children Rui has been absolutely obsessed with Tsukasa. Even when they were separated multiple times throughout their life, Rui never once lost any of his affection for the other boy— instead working harder so that they'll be able to reunite.
He's fine watching quietly from the sidelines nowadays, though. Even though he may yearn to be by Tsukasa's side every waking moment of the day, at least Tsukasa visits him frequently. In his defense he gets rather lonely since he lives very far away from the kingdom, living in a cottage somewhere deep in the woods with bountiful resources for his potions that he'll brew up and sell at market events or keep for himself.

“I had no duties today and decided to check up on you. It's not very often I get to spend my days off outside of the kingdom,” Tsukasa says, taking a seat next to Rui who's sprawled out on the couch.
“Ah, that makes me so happy that Tsukasa-kun wishes to spend his day off with me! I'll make us a nice pot of tea and pull out some snacks and we can do a bit of catching up! It's been awhile since we've talked properly,” Rui says, pulling himself up off the couch, patting Tsukasa's head momentarily.
“That sounds nice,” Tsukasa says, a soft, small smile forming on his face.

Tsukasa enjoyed his visit to Rui's cottage very much. He found it refreshing to catch up with Rui, nearly forgetting how much he loved listening to Rui ramble on about his new discoveries even if Tsukasa may not understand it very well.
It reminds him of when they were kids— a child of a nobleman of extremely high status, and a mere orphan who many claimed was a curse. Rui would always tell Tsukasa about all the interesting things he learned in his books, even helping Tsukasa learn how to read and write.

He walks down the halls when one of his men runs up to him.
“Sir Tenma! One of the other commanders requested your presence for their meeting today,” he says, seemingly trying to catch his breath.
“Very well then, what room are they in?” Tsukasa asks.
“Room 207, sir!”
Tsukasa nods and walks past the man, heading to the meeting room. He's not surprised he got called into an unexpected meeting— he really only hopes that the poor man was searching for him forever while he was visiting Rui.
Tsukasa knocks on the door before entering after receiving permission.
“Forgive me if I kept you men waiting for long— I left to check up on the mad alchemist to ensure he wasn't planning to cause any trouble today,” Tsukasa apologizes, taking a seat near the end of the table.
“Haha! Even on Sir Tenma’s days off he still feels as though he has to babysit the alchemist,” one of the commanders laughs.
Tsukasa smiles politely. “He's an old friend, I don't mind spending my days off checking up on him,” Tsukasa responds. “Now, may one of you catch me up?”
“Of course— we're discussing the recent issue with our border clashing with the North’s. Typically we're rather lenient, not caring too much if a hunter from another kingdom kills an animal on our land for as long as it was previously being pursued and just so happened to cross into our territory. However we've received reports that they've been deliberately crossing territorial borders and killing our animals.”
“Hm, I see… Why not send me up there to address the issue with his highness? Toya and I have always had a rather close bond despite growing up in different lands, surely he'd be more open minded to take action on the hunters who are doing this,” Tsukasa suggests.
“We considered that too until we took in a hunter himself. He could be lying to save his own ass, but apparently the prince has ordered him to hunt past the border,” the commander says.
“He must be lying. Toya isn't the type to start unnecessary problems,” he insists.
“You never know what the prince is thinking, Sir Tenma. He's more calculating than what many give him credit for,” another commander adds.
Tsukasa sighs. “Well then what do you suggest we do? Are you not interested in discussion with the prince?”
“Well, I think…” The man continues to talk about how he believes that the kingdom should use a scare tactic to intimidate the Northern Kingdom. The guy definitely does love to hear himself talk though… Tsukasa doesn't even think some of what he's saying pertains to their current conversation.
Suddenly Tsukasa feels an odd jolt of pleasure run through his body.

Tsukasa nods, swallowing a moan. “We could take a more peaceful route… If we intimidate his men then we could risk igniting the flames to start a war,” Tsukasa says, talking quickly to avoid moaning mid sentence.
“I agree with Sir Tenma, winter is around the corner and the last thing we need…” one of the other commanders begins to try and reason with the one trying to start conflict between the two nations.
Tsukasa needs to find a way to thank the commander because had he not, Tsukasa most likely wouldn't have been able to keep himself composed enough as Rui begins to scissor him open.

“There shall be no further objections from you,” Tsukasa swiftly cuts the man off, “c-clearly everyone agrees that we do not need any sort of war on our hands at the moment,” Tsukasa adds, his face a little flushed.
“Then why not take a vote?” The commander suggests, glaring at Tsukasa.
“Shouldn't we get the king on this?” Another adds.
“We shall then! Surely the king will agree that we should show the true might of the Western kingdom!” The commander says before looking over to a servant cleaning the room, “you there! Go fetch the king with haste! Tell him it's urgent!”
Tsukasa begins to panic. He had hoped his words would've led the meeting to a smooth end— but now his majesty is being dragged into this!? That's even more humiliating if he gets found out! His honor, his dignity! It'll all be gone!
Tsukasa gasps internally. Is this Rui's plan?
