Chapter 1: First Encounter

Summary:

First Encounters.

Chapter Text

She must be Victoria’s Secret.

Was what Aizawa first thought when he came face to face with the blonde girl with the bluest eyes– one of the other recommended students for U.A. 's heroics. Or maybe Barbie personified.

Barbie here just happened to run into him– literally ran into him, almost sending them falling down the stairs and he tuned out as she started stuttering with apologies and smiles.

Hello! Sorry! What's your name? Do you know where the interview room is? The interview room is apparently on the second floor, I thought it was on the third floor! Ah you’re a recommendation student too? Me too. I was actually. . .

She's still going.

“Aizawa-kun? Are you listening?” The girl blinks at him, waving her hand in front of him. Oh, was he staring? Aizawa snaps himself back into focus “Uh, right. .your name is Barbara?”

“Barbar-?” She looked at him funny before letting out a small laugh and a shake of her head. “No, my name is Shizuka Ai.” she says.

“Ah.”

“And we should get going, Aizawa-kun.” Shizuka says, placing two of her hands in her hips.

“Where?” Aizawa asks, still unfocused– on why, he also didn’t know. Was he still sleepy? Tired?

Shizuka gives him an amused smile as she answers, “Inside, Aizawa-kun. You’re also here for the 1st year recommendation interviews right?” she tilts her head at him, her bangs falling to her face.

“Oh, right.” he says and immediately starts walking to the room, leaving Shizuka behind.

“Ah, wait for me!”

“Oh? Shouta! You’re back so soon, how was it?”

Shouta looks up at his mother as he removes his shoes and places them on the rack. “It was fine.”

“Did they make you fight other people? I’m sure you did great! Since you could just erase their quirk.” his mother– Miyuki Aizawa asks enthusiastically.

Shouta huffs and shakes his head, “No. We had interviews, they asked us about our quirks.”

Miyuki hums as Shouta starts walking upstairs.

“Oh! Oh! Shouta! I cooked Katsudon! Come down to eat after you’re done changing!” she calls out, and goes back to the kitchen without waiting for him to reply.

He throws himself on the bed as soon as he steps into his room, recalling the interview.

“So, Aizawa-kun. Tell me about yourself.”

“My name is Aizawa Shouta, I’m 15. . .my quirk is called Erasure.”

“Can you explain to us what your quirk does?”

“I can erase other people’s quirk when I activate my quirk and look at them.”

Scribbles. “Hm, I see.  That sounds powerful.”

“It’s only temporary. .they get their quirk back when I blink.”

“Is that so? Alright, can you tell us about your family?”

“My mom’s name is Miyuki, my father’s name is Hanzo.”

“What do they do for a living, Aizawa-kun?”

“My father’s a civil servant in Tokyo’s city hall. .my mom stays at home and runs a ramen shop.”

“Okay. That’s great! Do you spend time with them, Aizawa-kun?”

“. . .Yes, mostly with mom, since my father is usually busy with civil works.”

“I see, you help around in her shop?”

Aizawa fails to see why all these questions are relevant to him applying to the hero course, but he nods.

“And. . .how do you know The Magician? He speaks highly of you.”

Aizawa twitched. “He frequently visits my mom’s shop when he patrols. . .”

“He said you saved him, that you were a hero.”

Aizawa’s head slightly shook “Ah. .he- a villain followed him to our shop and took my mom hostage.” he starts explaining,

“The Magician had difficulty rescuing my mom because of the villain’s quirk so. . .I erased it.”

“And it gave The Magician an opening to save your mom.”

He nods, head low. “It was only for a few seconds though. .”

“It’s still amazing Aizawa-kun.” The interviewer smiles for the first time.

“Well, this interview is over- there are a few tests you have to answer and then you’re free to go.”

It was. . quick.

It still hasn’t sunk in for Aizawa. The tests took longer than the interviews.

And the practicals were exhausting.

Exhausting.

Aizawa had his quirk. But they made them go through a race track. Where they can use their quirk to their advantage.

How on earth was he supposed to use his quirk to run?

That was what's running in his mind when he was participating practically quirkless against flashy quirks.

Until he realizes that they were slowing down, even with quirks. That’s fishy. And that the barbie girl from earlier was running in the lead. Like she was doing something with her quirk.

And that’s when Aizawa realized; maybe it’s okay to use quirks by any means necessary to catch up.

So Aizawa used his quirk, however— he only erased the girl’s quirk. Whatever it is, wasn’t visible, so even if it wasn’t allowed (to use their quirk on other participants), no one would notice he used his quirk on her.

And what would she do? Tattle? If it wasn’t allowed, tattling will only out them both.

And he was right, she was using a quirk. Because immediately as soon as he had cancelled her quirk, other participants' (as well as he) picked up their pace. He didn't have time to check in their faces if they realized something happened or not.

As the race ended, he glanced to see her chatting with another female student who had elf ears. Did she even realize her quirk was erased for a moment?

In the end, among the 6 recommendation students, he came out 5th and the barbie girl at 6th.

Aizawa blinks, staring at the ceiling.

What was her name again?
