Chapter Text
Rocket sat dejectedly at the table. The restaurant he went to was of a decent standing, not super expensive, but nothing cheap, either. He was fortunate that their waters were free, but still decided to leave a few bux under the glass anyway, as a sort of tip.
What a fucking joke. Ever since he started to try and expand his horizons, seeing if a relationship would help, it's always backfired. He felt a genuine connection to this demon, and he was excited to meet them in person! They were his age, from Thieves' Den, and recommended the restaurant in the first place. But of course, they had to stand him up.
No matter now. Exiting the restaurant into the cool night air, Rocket blocked their contact on his phone and pocketed it, taking a deep breath as he walked away, hands stuffed into the pockets of the second nicest pair of pants he owned. What would he do now? Zuka didn't expect him home tonight, and Rocket didn't really want to sulk all the way home just to be given an "I told you so" or something.
…He could go to Sword's.
Sword, like Rocket, lived in Crossroads. Medkit lived in the vicinity, too, despite the fact that both of those demons belonged to Lost Temple. It's not the first time Rocket has shown up unannounced, so he made the decision to begin the trek across Crossroads to Sword's. It shouldn't take that long.
A quiet, tranquil walk through Crossroads' most beautifully lit areas (seriously, for such a terrible night, the scenery almost made Rocket feel better) later and Rocket stood in front of Sword's front door. The demon's red car was parked outside, twinkling gently and Lost Temple license plate gleaming in the warm glow.
"Let's just get this over with." Rocket thought, knocking on the door with a little bit of force. He heard some shuffling from inside, and the door opened slowly. The warm light from within Sword's house lit him from behind, the demon looking at Rocket with a confused expression.
"Hey, weren't you supposed to be on a date tonight..?"
Rocket slumped, hanging his head low. "Stupid, stupid." He chastised himself. "Shouldn't have bothered Sword with this, fuck-"
His internal monologue was interrupted by Sword gently pulling him inside, hushing Rocket and closing the door behind him. "Hey, hey.." Sword comforted, wrapping one of his wings around Rocket. "Mmm.. I'll just put you on the couch. We can cuddle. Sound good?"
Rocket nodded. "You don't have to talk about it, either." Sword added.
"Okay."
Rocket let himself be led towards Sword's couch, the two of them configuring themselves into a position, where Rocket lay on Sword, the red demon's wings loosely wrapped around his body. Sword's arms hugged Rocket's torso, the weight of his best friend's muscular build providing a soft sense of comfort to Rocket.
"Mmmphh.." Rocket breathed, shoving his face into Sword's chest.
"Yeah?" Sword giggled, audible over the low background noise of the television. The show playing was some uninteresting drama, something about scams in the retail business. Rocket wasn't really entertained by this sort of stuff, but it served as good white noise.
