Chapter Text
A/N: Hey guys! This is my first Jujutsu Kaisen fanfiction, and I am relatively new to the fandom, and this was an idea that I had while trying to sleep one night and I hope you guys like it!
It was a rare day off for the three first years at Jujutsu High and Gojo was stuck in an important meeting with the higher ups, leaving Megumi, Nobara, and Yuji lounging in the common room of the dorm. Sunlight shone through the window, casting golden light along the wall as Yuji scrolled on his phone and Megumi read his book.
“Man, I am so bored. Do you guys want to go do something?” Nobara asked, throwing herself on the couch with a heavy sigh.
Yuji looked up from his phone. “Sure! What did you have in mind?”
Nobara shrugged. “I don’t know. I kind of want to go fight something.”
Yuji tilted his head. “You want to go seek out curses…after Gojo-sensei gave us the day off?”
Megumi looked up from where he was sitting on the opposite couch reading his book. His dark blue eyes flicked between the two before he spoke.
“There’s an abandoned warehouse nearby. Maki told me the other day that it seemed like a hot spot for cursed spirits.”
“Then what are we waiting for?! Let’s go!” She said, jumping up.
Nobara was already outside before Yuji and Megumi got up.
“I’ll let Gojo know where we’re going.” He said, taking out his phone.
Nobara wanted to go do something. We’re checking out that abandoned warehouse. He texted as he followed Yuji and Nobara.
Gojo responded before they even left the grounds.
Okay! Be safe and don’t die. I’ll come check on you after my meeting!
Megumi couldn’t help but roll his eyes at that.
The warehouse was a dilapidated and decrepit old building with a chain link fence around it designed to keep people out. This wasn’t a problem for the three students and after walking around, Megumi discovered part of the fence perfectly cut and lifted it to allow Nobara and Yuji through first.
The door—a rusted, heavy steel slab—was already ajar, alarm bells screaming in his head. He didn’t have time to question it; the moment they crossed the threshold; cursed spirits converged on them.
Nobara took the first couple out with ease by using Hairpin and Yuji took another out with Divergent Fist. During the fight, Megumi noticed something odd in the way the cursed spirits fought. It was almost as if they were being territorial, guarding a specific area of the warehouse.
Once the dust settled, Megumi having taken out the last of the spirits, Nobara was the first to speak.
“That was great! We should seek these places out on our own more often. That was—”
Nobara was cut off by a soft cooing coming from the next room over.
“Uh what was that?” Yuji asked, his eyes widening.
“A cat maybe?”
The cooing soon turned into a cry. It wasn’t just any cry—it was shrill, raw with terror.
“That’s definitely not a cat!” Megumi exclaimed, rushing ahead into the other room.
There, in the middle of the room, was an infant. The infant couldn’t have been more than a couple months old and was laying on a pile of pink, dirty blankets on the cold cement floor. The infant continued screaming, her blue eyes locking onto them.
Yuji and Nobara both spoke at once.
“Is that a baby?!”
“What the hell is a baby doing here?!”
Megumi stiffened, preparing for a fight as a cursed spirit emerged from a darkened corner—only for something strange to happen. Once it got close, the infants shriek intensified, and a barrier formed around her, forcing the cursed spirit to back away.
Nobara took it out with Hairpin before the three could safely approach. The infant, sensing their presence, stopped crying, and the barrier flickered out.
“Did she just repel a curse?”
“She did.”
“Well, she can’t just stay here! Megumi, pick her up.”
Megumi, already kneeling and sliding his hands under her, looked at Nobara.
“I’m…picking her up.”
Megumi tucked her into his uniform jacket to keep her warm, her small head tucked under his chin as they left the warehouse.
Gojo had already arrived and was waiting for them on the other side of the fence. He looked up as he heard the footsteps approaching, not noticing the infant at first.
“There are my favorite students! And you’re still alive too! How—”
Gojo cut himself off as his three students got closer, lowering his sunglasses as he saw the small head of black hair poking out of Megumi’s uniform.
“Is that a baby?”
That seemed to be the million-dollar question.
“Yes.”
“We found here in there.”
For once, Satoru Gojo had no jokes as he studied the infant, a serious expression on his features. One that Megumi knew all too well.
“Gojo,” he said slowly, “how much cursed energy does she have?”
Gojo didn’t take his eyes off the infant. “A lot.”
Megumi swallowed. “How much?”
Gojo finally looked at Megumi. There was no smile, and no teasing lilt in his tone as he spoke.
“Almost as much as me.”
