Work Text:

It was the first day of the apocalypse.

You had just gotten home from a long shift at work, so exhausted you were barely able to open your apartment door before you just tossed your bag down, let out a sigh and tried to get as much sleep as you could. Then you heard screaming coming from your neighbors apartment, right next to yours.

You decided, despite however many hours of sleep you were on, which was probably two, that you weren't getting murdered like your neighbor was, so you slipped on your pajamas, some shoes and then ran as fast as you could.

To where exactly? You didn't know, hell, it was just a flight response, but you knew you weren't ending up dead in the studio apartment you could barely afford just because you wanted to catch a few Z’s.

You hurried onto the porch of a just right sized house painted the color white, knocking fast as you could while trying to get your heart to stop pounding out of your damn ribs. It took a minute before you heard the sound of.. boots? You didn't know and didn't wanna judge, but it was something leather hitting the ground inside there before someone finally came to the door.

“Hello??” The voice inside came in, sounded like an introvert meeting someone new who they already don't like.

“Can.. Can I come in??” You got out quickly, taking deep breaths to still yourself, it was quiet as you looked behind yourself, swearing you could feel someone's eyes on you, before the guy behind the door spoke.

“Hell happened to you?”

You just groaned, wiping a hand over your face. “Got home, after, uh, a late shift at my job, woke up to my neighbor screaming bloody murder! Now you're gonna let me in or not?!” You snapped back, getting a little frustrated before the guy opened the door, and you thought you slept in bad clothes. This guy was in a whole set of jeans and a turtleneck, plus boots.

“Go find a room to stay in.” He said, his eyes watching you as you nodded, then walked down the house's hallway and opened the first door your eyes landed on, revealing a living room, with someone already there.

He was tall, really tall, with dark brown hair and a white button up, he was fast asleep, of course, who would wanna be up at this hour of the night.. and he was..

Kinda cute.

But no time to pay that thought any attention, because the homeowner guy just came in with a blanket for you.

“For you, I don't want you to freeze at night.” He said, handing it to you, leaving before you even got the chance to thank him.

You took a spot on the other couch, laying down and practically passing out.

Your eyes fluttered open and you sat up with a yawn, seeing the guy in the white button down getting inspected by the homeowner, long fingers pulling the sides of his mouth back as the homeowner looked at them like a god damn painting, before shooing the tall guy away, looking at you as the tall guy sat down.

“You. I need to check your teeth.”

Wow, not even a single “good morning” ? Not “how are you?”

But you panicked, and you showed your teeth, slightly yellow from not brushing them for two days. The guy grunted, before nodding, leaving the room, leaving just you and the tall guy, who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but where he was. It felt ridiculously awkward, so you did the only thing you could think to do, which was string up conversation. He seemed genuinely interested in talking to you, even inviting you to sit on the couch he was on, which you accepted.

His name was Yesenin. He got kicked out of a pub he was staying at the time then came to this place because of the world going to shit. He liked poetry, both reading and making it himself sometimes, he also liked chess. He thought the FEMA group that was roaming the streets at night was just a witch hunt.

God, just a conversation with this guy was giving you butterflies in your stomach.

You two talked the entire day, laughing, sharing stories, debating on the smallest topics like whether the sky was a different color by now and what color it would be if you didn't get turned to melted wax when you went outside during the day, so night dropped by fast.

“Hey, [Name], the homeowner has beer in his fridge. He's gonna wake up in… I'd guess an hour? Want me to get it from the kitchen and just drink our worries away tonight?” Yesenin asked you, and the way he just asked it like it was casual, like you two have been close friends for years, it made you nod without any hesitation, and Yesenin left the living room long enough to gather your thoughts, before he returned with a pack of beer from the fridge.

He sat it down on the floor, grabbing two, one being handed to you and the other for him. Can after can downed by you and Yesenin, with each getting you and him more tipsy than the last, drunken giggles and chuckles escaping you alongside drunken rambles, the last memory you have before the both of you blacked out was you moving your face closer to Yesenin's as he did the same..

Yesenin woke up first out of the two of you, groaning softly as he wiped a hand over his face, making you wake up, the sound not necessarily startling you but it was sudden in your peaceful sleep in his arms.

“... Morning.” Yesenin mumbled, eyes looking over you before looking away, his cheeks went a gentle pink.

You smiled, sitting up from the cuddle you two had been in during the whole night. “Morning..” you said, yawning a little before you left the room, heading out to the kitchen, scratching a little bit at your neck as you entered the room, immediately being met with the sight of the Homeowner guy and some dude with green skin drinking some type of energy drink out from his hat, their conversation about breakfast probably immediately dying down once you entered the room.

The guy with the drinking hat took the straw out of his mouth and just let out a little “uhh” sound, gesturing at his neck and mouth before speaking.

“You got a bit of, uh, y'know—” The guy said as his brows furrowed like he was trying to not laugh, especially when Yesenin walked past the kitchen to use the bathroom, before the homeowner cut him off.

“Your neck and face is covered in hickeys, idiot.” The homeowner said, pinching the bridge of his nose while the drinking hat guy just went back to drinking his drink, while your cheeks heated up.
