“HAPPY NEW YEARS!” Hesh chanted as he opened the door for everyone.
It was a small get together and they were gonna have dinner at the Walker families house. Everyone was excited since they haven’t had Elias food in a while and they were craving his New year’s dinner.
“You mean New Year’s eve?” Keegan chuckled as he walked through the door.
“I guess- but not everyone says Eve, Keegan” Merrick said walking after him and patting Hesh on the back
“Nice seeing you kid” He smiled.
“Thank you” Hesh said with a grin
“Hey Kid!” Ajax smiled as he walked and headed to the kitchen to greet Elias.
“Where’s Grim, Torch, Kick, and Neptune?” Hesh asked as noticed they weren’t there.
“Oh Elias sent them on a quick grocery run! They’ll be here soon! Don’t worry” Merrick said taking his coat off.
“They should be back in about an hour or so” Keegan said taking a seat near the fire to warm up his hands.
“Ohh alright! I’m glad. I wouldn’t want them to miss dinner with us” Hesh closed the door making sure no more cold air came in.
Even though the men lived in California they weren’t used to the random times it would get cold. The weather being back and forth between warm, humid, cold, or raining. Even with all those missions they go through with different weather conditions, for some reason the California weather always gets them.
Elias walks in the living room to greet Merrick and Keegan.
“Sorry for not greeting you at the door with Hesh, I was finishing up the smashed potatoes!” Elias said heading toward Merrick and giving him a hug.
“It’s all good! How’s the food coming along?” Merrick said hoping the food will be done soon.
“It’s looking good! Just need a few more things done and we’ll get on eating. And we need the other three to get here with drinks, napkins, and some extra butter.” Elias said pulling out of the hug and waving at Keegan.
“Do you want me to turn the heater on? I know it was a bit chilly outside.
“No, I think i’m okay” Keegan said with a smile.
“Alight then! Let me or Hesh know if you want it on, don’t be scared now” Elias chucked softly as he headed to the kitchen and Merrick following behind him.
“And Logan?” Keegan asked looking at Hesh as his hands were stretched out toward the fire.
“Oh Logan? He’s just walking Riley right now. They both enjoy the cool weather” Hesh sat across Keegan staring at the fire.
The crackling of the fire helps with the silence. Hesh can’t help but look at Keegan who is looking at the fire.
“You need something” Keegan looked at him.
“You-“ Hesh said without hesitation.
“What?”
“I need you to help me set up the table” Hesh said as he stood up quickly heading towards the table.
“Yeah sure” Keegan got up as he laughed quietly to himself.
They both set up the table and as they hear a loud cackle. They both check it out and see that the others came from the store and Riley trying to jump on them for attention. Logan is laughing as he helps with the groceries.
“Guess who’s here!” Neptune yelled as he holds two wine bottles.
Elias walks over to the loud group as he smiles.
“Hey! When I said drinks I didn’t mean just wine” He laughed.
“We got beer too!” Grim said happily
“And some sodas too! Yeah know, for the young ones here” Torch looked at Logan and Hesh
“Can’t let them get too wasted now” Kick laughed as he was holding some more beer.
“We’re not that young” Hesh said in an offensive joking tone.
Everyone laughed as they help them out with the rest of the drinks they had in the trunk.
These guys must have wanted them to get wasted since they brought two big bottles of whiskey and mini shots. Elias finished up the rest of what needed to be made and the team got everything ready on the table. Keegan got the wine open and poured a glass for everyone.
Everyone took a moment to admire the food on their plate, the house smelt wonderful. Merrick was practically drooling over his food.
“Alright! Everyone dig in!” Elias smiled looking at everyone.
Everyone nodded and started eating like they haven’t even before, they were grabbing breads, passing gravy, corn, smashed potatoes, laughing and drinking wine. Hesh and Logan sat next to one another sneaking food to Riley who was between them. The two were giggling as Riley at up.
Everyone was full, and was just relaxing in the living room as they had the TV on watching cartoons. They had a lot to drink as well since the bottles of wine and whiskey were nearly gone. Merrick and Elias were dead asleep on the couch. Same with Neptune and Torch, who were sleeping back to back. Grim was to invested in the cartoon and enjoying himself as Riley laid next to him. Logan was knocked out in his room with the door closed and lights off. Ajax was still up and drinking watching the cartoons with Grim. Kick was passed out in the kitchen with his head on the table.
Hesh and Keegan were the only ones up and watching the clock.
“It’s almost time” Keegan said with a soft smile.
“Yeah it is! You wanna head outside and watch the fireworks? I would invite the others but I think they are too out of it” Hesh looked at everyone who was asleep or almost asleep.
Keegan looked at his team as they were snoring.
“Absolutely” Keegan laughed as he took a photo of everyone.
“Please send me those” Hesh laughed.
“On it” Keegan said smiling and sending over the pictures.
Hesh lead Keegan upstairs to his room. Keegan followed right behind him a bit confused. Hesh opened his door and let him in, closing the door behind him.
“I thought we were gonna see the fireworks?” Keegan asked with a confused look on his face.
“We are! Just trust me” Hesh opened his window and went through and walked up the roof.
“Come on!” He yelled.
Keegan went through the window as well and headed up the roof and almost slipping. Hesh helped him up not wanting an accident to happen so close to the new year.
“We got about 6 minutes before the new year! Any plans?”
“Hmm..” Keegan sat for a moment, thinking about how he wants to spend it.
“Im not sure. What about you?” Keegan looked at Hesh, eyebrow raised.
“I want to spend it more with family and friends you know? I know I do that everyday for years but” He adjusts himself, sitting a little more comfortably on the hard surface.
“I want to take more photos, videos, maybe even doing some more activities with you guys instead of the basic training we do nearly every week” Hesh looks at Keegan.
3 minutes left until New years…
Keegan nods and looks at Hesh and then at the sky.
“You should honestly, I know we would like having more of your company.”
Hesh smiled at the response and laid down, his face pointing at the direction of the sky. Keegan leaned just a bit looking up as well. As he was thinking about Hesh’s question.
30 seconds until New years..
“For this upcoming new year, I want to spend it being..”

“With you”
Fireworks rang out, the sky was filled with lights brighter than the stars could ever dream of being. The air quickly getting smoky.
Hesh sat up and looked at Keegan. One hand on Keegan’s face, Hesh leans in, kissing the man on the lips.
The firework still shining behind them. The kiss for a few seconds, they pull back and look at one another. They both laugh and smile as they hit close to one another and look up at the fireworks.
Unfortunately for them one of the fireworks got a little too close to their liking and both pushed each other out of the way. Both decided to head back inside after that. They couldn’t help but laugh and decided to check on the others, who were awake and dancing while listening to music to celebrate the new year.
Logan was somewhat awake, his eyes were trying their best to stay open. Hesh tapped his brother’s shoulder and helped him to his room.
“Sleep easy Logan. Happy new years” Hesh laid his brother onto the bed and covering him with a blanket.
“Goodnight Hesh” Logan mumbled.
“And Happy new years” he said before he dozed off.
Hesh headed back to the group and began to record and dance along. Keegan was forced to join by Ajax and Elias. They all enjoyed the New year together having fun, even Riley joined the dance on his two backs and Merrick holding on his two front paws dancing with him and Riley loving every second of attention. Kick was also recording and eventually also dragged to dance and was surprisingly very good at it, he got to teach Elias some new dance moves, though he wasn’t as good as Kick.
