Chapter 1: Author's Note: Updated

Chapter Text

Author's Note 26/6  (Completed, pending uploads)

This story has been part of my life for almost ten years. Over that time, it has grown, changed, and evolved alongside me. Finishing it is both surreal and incredibly satisfying, and I'm grateful that Hermione and Severus were finally able to find the happy ending they fought so hard to earn.

However, this isn't quite the end.

The earliest chapters were written nearly a decade ago, and both my writing style and the story itself have developed considerably since then. My next project is to return to Book One and refine it, bringing it closer to canon and the later chapters, expanding and adding scenes, strengthening characters' arcs, and ensuring that plot threads and foreshadowing are carried consistently throughout what has become a story of nearly 160,000 words. Now that Hermione and Severus have their happy ending I plan to go back through earlier chapters adding in details;  expanding the magical world, adding more spellwork, developing characters such as Draco and Minerva, and including some of the quieter moments and side stories.  Maybe I’ll even flashback to Hermione’s reaction to discovering her animagus, or meeting Cassandra.

One thing I always hoped to do was tell this story almost entirely through Hermione and Severus's perspectives. For the most part, I managed that, but the Battle of Hogwarts and some of the other scenes were particularly tricky. Some scenes required viewpoints outside of theirs to tell the story properly. Where possible, in earlier chapters, I’ve told them from Hermione’s perspective, to keep the narrative focused on them, and if I find a way to rewrite more of the final battle from Hermione's perspective, I'll certainly revisit it. For the moment I have tried to style them differently in a way that is meaningful to me.

Thank you to everyone who has read, commented, followed, or supported this story over the years. For every kudos, comment or bookmark, every interaction has meant more than you probably realise. Knowing that people cared about these characters as much as I did made it far easier to keep returning to them, especially after so long.

If there's one thing I hope this story leaves with you, it's this:

Life is about balance. About choices. About choosing the people who matter, even when life isn't perfect.

You are the main character of your own story.

And you are the author.

Write one worth remembering.
