Engagement Rings & Relationship Reveals

Summary:

Harley Keener does not mention that he is engaged for fear of his boss (Tony Stark) and co (the avengers) finding out that his fiancé is really Spider-Man. But then Peter Parker is revealed to be Spider-Man and suddenly they are introduced to each other as if they’re strangers. How will they reveal the true nature of their relationship? (Spoiler alert: Morgan Stark)

Notes:

Just wanted to say that this was heavily inspired by ”They Don’t Know (About The I Love Yous)” by Coffee_and_notebooks. Read their fic!! It’s amazing and this is literally just like another version of the same prompt.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The Avengers had not known Spider-man’s identity, and Peter had desperately wanted to keep it that way. That unfortunately also meant that his boyfriend (and Tony Stark's long time intern) couldn’t talk about their relationship with the Avengers, seeing as they were quite protective and would probably dig a little too deep.

So, when Harley Keener and Peter Parker got engaged, Harley decided to keep his ring on a band around his neck to hide it. It was more convenient for work anyway. And whenever they asked about romantic interests, Harley would talk about being young and having time to figure stuff out. Of course he already had figured stuff out, but they did not need to know that.

Spider-man hiding his identity from the Avengers did not stop them from inviting him to dinners, parties and celebrations anyway. At first, Peter did not want to show up, sure that they were trying to find his identity– against his wishes. This was quickly disproven by Harley who mentioned how they could tell he was young and just wanted him safe.

As Spider-man slowly integrated into their friendgroup, he was ‘introduced’ to his fiancé. It was a good thing Natasha had not been there since she would probably have noticed how they seemed to know each other already. Of course, one of them was bound to slip up. About half an hour after Harley had left the tower after dinner, Peter mentioned going home. Tony (who had found himself growing closer to the man after finding their shared love of science) had offered him to stay, and without thinking, Peter had answered that he needed to get home to his fiancé. This had prompted 10 minutes of dodging questions before he had been able to swing home.

Eventually though, Peter’s identity had been revealed. As he had grown closer to the group, he had found himself trusting them more and more and he had been thinking about revealing his identity for a while. The tipping point came when he had swallowed his pride and went to the tower’s medbay after he got shot. At one point Dr. Cho had asked him to take off his mask and Peter had done so, even though he was sure that Tony would cross reference his face to find his identity. Surprisingly, the man came in the next day and made sure to let him know that no one except Dr. Cho had seen his face and that he had told Friday to delete the footage.

After spending such a long time convinced that they were just biding their time until they could find his identity and spread it to whatever friend or family member they deemed should know, he was surprised to see that the Avengers had actually listened and respected how he protected his identity. So, with trust and friendship with the Avengers, Peter had revealed his identity to them. This left the Avenger’s knowledge of the nature of Harley and Peter’s relationship in a peculiar situation.

As far as the Avenger’s knew, Peter Parker was engaged, and Harley Keener was not. After having kept this secret for so long though, they were unsure how to bring it up and continued putting it off. Eventually though, the secret would have to be spilled, and that happened thanks to one little girl.

The avengers and friends had just eaten dinner at the tower and were now sprawled across the living room. While some random channel played in the background, Morgan, Tony and Pepper’s daughter, crawled around looking at everyone’s wedding rings. She had just judged Peter’s engagement ring when she caught sight of the ring around Harley’s neck. She grabbed it to look at it closer while Harley’s eyes met Peter’s with a smile. A soft gasp escaped from the little girl’s mouth.

”Yours is so pretty! And it matches with Petey!” She exclaimed loudly and the conversation around them stalled before multiple people let out their surprised comments.

”You’re married?” Came from Clint while Steve exclaimed: ”Matching with Pete?”

Tony just stared wide eyed between the two young men, at a loss for words. Natasha, of course, just smiled at them knowingly, like she had known since the start, which was likely in her case.

Harley and Peter just smirked at each other and hopped closer together on the couch they were sitting on, the blonde putting his arm around his partner. Morgan was still sitting in Harley’s lap and was now playing with the band around his neck.

”So… We are engaged if that was not obvious.”

”It was,” said Natasha while Clint responded with a short: ”It wasn’t,” Making Peter snort next to his fiancé.

Tony was still at a loss for words and seeing his face, Harley couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Peter followed suit and soon the spell surrounding the room had been broken and congratulations and questions flew around the area.

After many explanations and questions answered, Harley noticed that his partner had grown quiet and his face told him that he was quickly getting overwhelmed. Soon enough, Harley mentioned having to go home to their soon- to- be shared apartment and the two made their way to the old car that Harley had taken to work that morning.

Once they got home, Peter quickly pulled Harley towards the couch and told him to lay down, just to sprawl out on top of him, head on his chest. Harley kissed the top of his head sweetly and put his arms around his back, pulling him ever closer. Peter sighed softly before looking up at his partner.

”I really love you,” He softly said, one hand holding Harley’s cheek.

”I love you too, darling” Answered the southern man.

The next summer, they had a small ceremony at some lake Tony apparently had a house by, the only guests being their closest family members and friends. The avengers and co being among them. Morgan was their ringbearer and loudly whispered to them that their rings were much prettier than her parents.

Every anniversary after that were filled with different avengers recollections of when they found out about their engagement, save for Natasha of course, she only liked to remark that it was obvious from the start.
