REKINDLING OLD FLAMES.

Summary:

Cassidy Cabana has alot to think about, but Kris Statlander just wants to talk.

Work Text:

Cassidy had been perplexed, being on the promotional art for Grand Slam and being called a “star” by Lillie Cueto made absolutely no sense when just weeks ago they wanted him dead. Gone and out of the picture. This whole predicament led him to here, in his dressing room watching Kris defend the AEW Women’s Championship against Thekla, calling it a defense was putting it lightly.

It was a bloodbath but regardless Cassidy was impressed, he had alot to ponder. He knew where this was going but he had to go home to think about it. He was shaken out of his thoughts by a knock at the door, he hadn’t even realized he’d spaced out and it was main event time. He stood up and opened the door to see Kris standing there her gear, upper chest and arms stained with the blood of the spider she once called a lover. “Can i come in?” Cassidy should have said no, he should have told her to fuck off but yet…he moved aside and let her in as he locked the door.

“Look, Kris. I don’t know what all of this is about but if you think for one-“ he was abruptly cut off. “I know what you want, you want that title back. You said you’re willing to do whatever it took to that back yes?.” He stood there, the gaze between the two never breaking. “You’re not the only one that feels grief that she’s gone, Cassidy. But i know you, i know deep down you know as well as i do who’s fault this is. It’s Angie’s. Cassidy, let’s be honest. She didn’t deserve Lyra. She didn’t care for her like we did. She doesn’t deserve you.”

There was a mental record scratch, this is not where Cassidy thought this was going. But he scoffed.

“And who the hell are you to decide who deserves me and who doesn’t? You’re the same fucking one who had my own brother and your gaggle of goons attack me and leave me for /dead/ in Toronto! Look, once upon a time. I loved you Kris. You meant the world to me and-” He couldn’t finish, because she didn’t let him say it. “You remember when we went to prom together? How excited you were Cass? How /happy/ you were?” This was emotional mindgames, it had to be. “Leave.” Was all he said, but Kris didn’t move. “Fine.” Cassidy said grabbing his things and leaving but before he could she said one last thing.

“You asked what do i gain from this arrangement? You asked what i want out of this arrangement? What do we gain? /You/ Cassidy. We gain you.”
