Chapter Text
Waves lapped at the shore as you stared out into the upward curving horizon, the seemingly endless ocean reaching up and consuming the sky. You fell back as you had a million times before, the long band of captured sunlight dialed to an intensity you could bear to look at for a few moments to marvel at the beach far above you. A sky of endless coast and sea, something you knew was not just mirrored from the ground- as the sand beneath your back was the typical yellow over the newer red she’d been pulling in for the beach opposite you, and the simple fact that you’d been there before.
Had the same thoughts there before even, and looked around where you were sitting now.
“If you’re done literally staring at the sun over me, there are plenty of better ways for you to break my heart if you’re willing to input even a modicum of effort in setting up the picnic you planned.”
You sat up, and there she was. Her skin almost sparkling underneath the sunlight as it intensified once more, the spots in your vision obscuring parts of the form you’d come to grow so comfortable around as she lounged on her checkered quilt’s tiles. Curled into a comfortable lounge, confident and completely in control as she casually rested on her side, her eyes and grin sharp and playful like a snow leopard watching its favourite toy. Statuesque, she wasn’t even breathing- well, until she’d started a second later after you’d begun admiring her. Her hand cradled her jaw as a wider, less predatory smile tugged on her lips though, and as she settled further into the packed sand you could hear her fans kick up, your hands flowing through signs.
‘You’re a v-e-r-y pretty space station.’
“I’m flattered, really.” Her faux sarcasm only made you smirk as she pointedly looked away. She hadn’t fixed her suddenly sapphire ears, even if she could minimise the blue dusting on her cheeks. After a second more of silent gloating, you looked down at what she’d deemed to be an adequate picnic spread.
Two plates laid out equidistantly from both eachother, the faux wicker basket in the centre and the edges of the quilt; with said faux wicker basket being popped open and utterly mysterious in its contents. Your curiosity drew you closer as you pushed yourself up with your arms and scooted off the sand and onto the quilt, leaning in to see…
A miniaturised Aperture Science Portal Generator and Gateway- which was off.
You looked back up at her, mildly confused and blinking slowly.
“What? You haven’t said the magic words and thus haven’t been blessed with nourishment? Whoever would have thought-” You rolled your eyes at her as she started up her antics again. “-You’re supposed to take me seriously! I’m literally holding the keys to your survival here-”
She grew more animated by the second as you ignored her, looking back down at the gateway as she suddenly sat up herself, her thighs promptly pancaking and stealing your attention as they suddenly seemed to double in size as they squished into the quilt. “-Are you even listening to me?!”
You absently nodded. It wasn’t like you had a choice in the matter- and before you could control yourself, a snicker spilled from your lips. “And now you’re laughing?! What’s so funny about my entirely valid-” It only set her off more, which made holding back your laughter even harder.
“CHELL!!!”
It was hard to breathe.
