Work Text:
Nene sat at their desk, eyeing their cheesy classmates as they went around handing out valentines and talking with their crushes and partners.
Nene rolled their eyes and looked out the window. Valentine's Day was never really their thing. Not really for any big reason, they just didn't get it. They liked doing stuff for their friends and family, but that was about it. The romance aspect wasn't really their thing.
Nene had watched this morning as An and Mizuki were being all cheesy as they gave each other cards and chocolate and flowers and talked about their plans for a date after school.
Rui received a new pair of earrings from Tsukasa so the two could match, and they too were planning something after school.
They thought it was kind of cute, but they might be partially biased since it's their friends. Nene was slightly tired of how many kids they have seen today just eating each other's faces.
They heard a teacher describe making-out like that one time and thought it was funny.
Thank god their friends weren't like that.
Still, seeing how their friends were acting made them worry.
Them and Akito never really did much "mushy" stuff. They would hold hands and cuddle and sometimes kiss, but Nene never really considered them to be "romantic" like Mizuki or Rui were with their partners.
Nene was worried if they told Akito they weren't really up for anything 'special' on Valentine's Day he would be annoyed.
Sure, Nene had grabbed the singer a cheesecake (that was forgotten at their house), but that was normal for them. Nene always got gifts for the people they cared about on Valentine's Day!
What if Akito mad that they didn't want to go to some fancy restaurant and be all mushy and stuff?
Would Akito be mad Nene forgot his gift?!
What if he got them this... huge big thing, and all they had in return was a cheesecake from the connivence store?!
Nene's eyes got drawn back to their desk as someone plopped down a bag of Grapefruit-flavored candy onto their desk.
Nene lifted their head as Akito kneeled down and put his arms on their desk, "Sorry it's not
much, I just knew you liked these."
Nene shrugged and smiled, "I didn't get you much either, I just have a cheesecake, but I left it at my house, sorry."
"It's fine, we could just hang out after school and I can grab it.. if you want."
Nene nodded, but their eyes fell to their desk, "We don't... need to do any... like..."
Nene's words weren't wording, leading to them groaning.
Akito snickered, "Nah, we don't have to be all flirty and mushy like Rui-senpai or Mizuki, honestly I'm not even that much of a fan of *that* aspect of Valentine's Day."
Relief washed over Nene's body as they let out a sigh, muttering "thank god" under their breath.
"Wanna stop by the arcade? There was this game there when I went with An a couple weeks ago I think you'd like," Akito suggested.
Nene cracked open their candy and nodded, "That works, if it's a competition game I'll probably kick your ass in it."
Akito rolled his eyes, "Whatever helps you sleep at night."
Before Nene could get another jab in at the singer, their teacher instructed everyone to get in their seats, so the two's bickering would have to wait.
Nene watched Akito sit, quietly letting out another sigh as a small smile fell onto their face.
This didn't seem so bad for it being their first Valentine's Day with a partner.
They were excited to kick their boyfriend's ass in whatever game Akito had planned after school.
The purest form of love is getting competitive over an arcade game.
