Chapter Text
It’s something I’ve known from the start.
Born gods believe their undying natures are the greatest gifts of the World.
Those who ascended know otherwise.
They understand the boundless strength their bodies possess; able to perform superhuman feats and act in inhuman ways. They harbor an infinite power that enables them to do everything but what they truly desire.
The Ascended understand that for all that power, they are powerless.
They know the burning of the heart, the stifling presence of chains binding them from those they cherish, the eternal shattering of their souls with every piece love takes away.
There is a reason Aphrodite Melaenis is feared even among Olympians.
The goddess of forbidden love.
Immortality is hell.
An unlimited body with a limited heart. They must gain, only to lose for eternity.
But at least they get to grieve.
You know what’s worse?
Perpetuity.
Repetition.
Endless, numbing, searing, maddening repetition.
That is my curse. Immortal in a way even gods are not. Fated to suffer the same hell from a desperate gamble. Fated to lose more of myself with every death.
Fated to kill or be killed.
How ironic.
Existing through time everlasting solely to kill Time everlasting.
The last things I see before my eyes blink open to a rainy sky are golden eyes.
