Chapter Text

Your schedule from 6 am to 5 pm consisted of the same thing.

Yet today was different.

Weird even.

6:15 am.

Your alarm goes off.

Dragging yourself out of bed and into the bathroom, washing your face, and brushing your teeth, mumbling to yourself about how much you hate your job. You dressed in a pantsuit, grabbed your work badge and suitcase, and headed out the door and to the elevator.

You noticed your neighbor coming out at the same time as you once again. This time, he was dressed in a navy blue striped suit, rather than the usual sweatpants and hoodie that covered his large physique.

"Going down?" You asked, looking up at him.

He nodded once, watching as you reached out to press the button.

The elevator ride was quiet, nothing but the typical smooth jazz playing softly from the speakers in the corners. A soft ding! Caught your attention as the doors opened, you left first, said a sweet goodbye to him, and headed to catch the bus.

7:00 am

You arrive at the office, stepping out of the 10-story building elevator onto the 8th floor and heading down the hall to your office.

You smile to your coworkers, giving them a good morning as you finally make it to your peace away from the constant meddling of your boss, for a short time, and shut the door behind you, noticing once again that flowers had been delivered to you.

The note hanging off the little stick read, "K" with a cute heart below it. This "K" had been sending you flowers for the past few months. First, it was once every few weeks; then it became twice a week, sometimes three times a week. Though whoever it was had stopped, and you hadn't seen anything within the last week.

Until today, that is.

A knock at your door made you look up, and you noticed your boss waving through the window, trying to get your attention. Of course, you waved for him to come in, and he opened it quickly, nearly bouncing from excitement.

"Thank God you're here. I need your help," He leans against the door, propping it open. "We have a new employee who's starting here today, and he's under the same branch as you."

"What does that have to do with me?"

"I need you to show him the ropes," You go to sigh when he raises his hands quickly, already knowing you were quick to try and shut him down. "Only for today, ok? I would do it, but the head executives are riding my ass about this deadline for the shoreline project-"

"Yeah, enough explaining, I'll do it." You move the flowers to a smaller table in the room, then turn back to him, crossing your arms. "I'll be expecting some overtime on my payroll."

"Done deal!" He steps aside, letting you out. "Thank you, you really don't know how much you're helping me right now."

"You say this at least once or twice a day." You smirk at him as the two of you head to the elevator. "I'm starting to think I should be in your position since I'm always helping you."

He laughs nervously, "Listen, a promotion is in the works, don't worry, just let me get these assholes off my back and then-"

"You've also said that to me, Markus," He nervously scoffs as the doors open and the two of you enter the lobby. "More lies!" You sing playfully at him as he rubs the back of his neck, trying to calm his flushed state.

7:35 am

Your eyes go wide as you notice the new employee.

Wide back, strong physique, covered in a navy blue striped suit.

His eyes crinkle at the sight of you through the balaclava covering his face, which made you nearly shudder.

Of course, it was weird to see your neighbor here at your job, and none other than him being the new employee you'd have to be watching over for the rest of the day. The two of you stop before him as your boss smiles brightly, sticking out his hand towards the giant brute, "Markus Reed, head director of Rainisuites."

"König."

Your neighbor shakes his hand, "Strong grip there! Must be from that military life, huh?"

The man before you nods, pulling his hand back and turning to you. You smile sweetly at him, sticking out your hand, "I'm-"

"I know who you are." He says, accent thick in his throat as he takes your hand gently. Your warm smile falters for a moment as the voice of Markus perks up.

"You two know each other?" He smirks, pointing between the two of you.

"He's my neighbor." You say to your boss, pulling your hand away gently, "So König, I'm the director of the 8th floor for Rainisuites. Markus, here is over me, each floor has a head director like him, and then a director who is over the rest of the employees like you." You explain to him before turning to your boss. "Go deal with the sharks, I've got this."

He pats your back, giving you the thumbs up, before leaving you and König alone in the busy lobby.

You watch him leave, then turn back to König with a smile, "Ready for a tour?"

8:12 am

"You'll basically be in charge of handling offshore clients, or foreign businesses that are trying to get into the market. This entire floor is for employees who can speak one or more languages." You head down the hallway with him close behind. "Well... everyone but me. The most I can speak is basic Spanish, but I was put in my spot last minute because it was urgent, and I've stayed since."

You begin to pass by rooms, large and small, pointing to each. "This is the break room. Make sure you write your name on your lunch; we have sticky fingers around here. Here's the printing room; the fax machine doesn't work anymore, and it's getting fixed soon. Bathrooms, supply closet, and another supply closet."

Behind you, you couldn't help but feel a sense of something weighing down on you.

Like a predator stalking his prey.

He followed you quietly, only the soft thud of his loafers hitting the ground over your voice as you showed him around before finally making it to the hall of offices, showing him to his, "You'll be here. I'm just three offices down, and Marcus's office is four down on the other side of yours. Emergency exits are on both ends next to our offices as well. Any more questions about the layout of the building?"

He shook his head no.

"Great, take a seat." You watched as he sat in the chair, and he watched as you stood beside him, leaning slightly over the desk to turn on his computer. "Since it's your first day, I can't show you much. The head director is supposed to train you, so for now, I'll show you something simple to do to pass the time."

He nodded.

Despite his large stature, you noted his quiet, timid nature. Besides, you mainly carry the conversation; he would mutter a simple yes or no for the most part as you help him set up his computer.

"And this is your work profile." You pull it up, which showcases his name, occupation, and the languages he speaks. "German?"

He nods, watching your surprised expression as you turn to him with a beaming smile, "We've never had anyone who speaks German here."

"Really?"

You nod, "Yes, I remember when I was looking through old files we had a German-speaking employee over three years ago... sorry, I'm just really excited this opens so many opportunities for us."

You stand up straight, putting a hand on your hip as you rest your free hand on the back of his chair, "Any questions?"

He turned towards your standing figure, forcing you to step back a bit at the sudden movement, "Can I take you to lunch?"

12:00 pm

After the meeting, Marcus had to attend. He began to show König some of the stuff he'd be doing while working with you. Curiosity got the best of you, and you ended up shadowing the whole thing.

The question König asked weighed heavily on your mind as you told him you'd think about it.

But you had already made up your mind within the first few minutes.

You watched him do as Markus asked.

He caught on quickly to everything he told him and moved swiftly.

Hell, he was even catching the eye of a few female coworkers.

Honestly, you were stunned.

Lunch time finally rolled around as you were dropping off one last file to a coworker before heading to the elevator. König stood by the door waiting for you as you said bye and turned to leave. He looked hopeful, actually watching you leave the office and smile up at him, "Your answer?"

"Yes, I'll go to lunch with you."

------------

The two of you finally make it out of the office and to a small Chinese restaurant just a few minutes away, tucked into a corner of an alley. "I'm sure you've had Chinese before."

"Plenty of times."

You enter with him in tow as you take a window seat, having to stifle a giggle at the large man squeezing into the booth. Moments later, a waiter brought menus, took your drink order, and gave you a few minutes to look over everything else. "So.. König."

"Yes."

"How did a large guy like you end up at an office job?" You ask, tilting your head slightly, "Sorry if...large offends you, I don't mean it in that way-"

He chuckles, clearing his throat, "I'm ex-military."

"Really!?" This time, you clear your throat, blushing slightly at your voice pitching up from this simple excitement, "Sorry-Sorry... It's just surprising. I'm sure the military is way better than sitting in a swaying tower of glass."

"It is for a while."

"Why did you leave? If you don't mind me asking..."

"Personal."

You not knowing not to push it any further.

"How long have you been working at the office?" Your eyebrow raises at the sudden question.

"Uhm shit... maybe four or five years now." You take a sip of your drink. "How did you get the job?"

"A friend owes me a favor, and a spot opened."

You nod slowly, "Did you- Did you know that I worked there?"

His silence scared you.

It felt like minutes passed before he shook his head no.

Even with a bit of relief from his saying he didn't stalk you, it still rattled your brain a bit.

Though you didn't want to jump to the conclusion that it was stalking, it was weird that your neighbor suddenly got a job at your workplace. Stalking was the only option on your mind at the moment.

Not to mention the "K" on the note delivered with the flowers kept floating around in your head, constantly making you associate it with König.

"Since you're ex-military, could you help me with something?" He crossed his arms, narrowing his eyes. The gesture made you chuckle as you held a hand up in defense, "I-It's nothing crazy like murder, trust me. I just need help with something."

"Go on."

"I think I have a stalker."

"I wouldn't be surprised."

"Why do you say that?"

"You're beautiful."

His blunt statement makes you flustered as you chuckle, "Thank you, really, that's sweet, but the thing is, the stalker doesn't do anything crazy or police report worthy. I guess?"

"What do they do then?"

"Sends me flowers."

König lets out a deep, rumbling laugh. "Sends flowers?"

"He-They- They started sending them a few months ago and then it increased and decreased but he knows where I work which is ok I guess because i'm protected but once im home," You rub at your arms now feeling a cold shiver down your spine at the reality of what you havent been looking into or thinking about since the start of the flowers being delivered "What if they know where I live?"

"What would you like me to do?" You look up at him, his words coming out more as a statement than a question, making you wonder why he would be so eager to help. "Could you help me find out who it is?"

Konigs stare sent shivers down your spine as the silence streatched on for longer than you had hoped, "I-If you dont want to thats fine-"

"Ill do it."

You beamed at him reaching across the table to grab his large caloused hands in yours, "Thank you so much you dont understand how greatful I am for you doing this."

Little did you know youd be eating those words within a matter of minutes the second the two of you entered your home...
