Tell You I Love You (In the Heat of the Morning)

Summary:

“Hey. You said five minutes. If you keep that up, it’s going to end up being a lot longer than that.” Levi cautioned.

As the early morning developed, the room had grown light enough for him to make out Erwin’s features easier. The blue of his eyes was almost entirely overshadowed by his pupils, blown wide to account for not only the dark, but his desire as well. His gaze was fixed on Levi’s face, slow breaths making his chest rise and fall as he stared up at him. He licked his bottom lip, a lazy smile lifting the corner of his mouth.

“Would that be such a bad thing?” Erwin asked softly, biting his lip.

The very first rays of sun broke the horizon line and it felt like they had all the time in the world.

Work Text:

Levi stirred, rolling over in place and stretching. The linen sheets rustled around him, half-covering his form that remained bare aside from his boxers. Levi gently rubbed his sleep-heavy eyes before opening them, blinking until his vision focused. Through the window, he could see the first signs of daybreak, the sky remaining dark with the exception of a wisp of orange on the horizon. It was not uncommon for Levi to wake up before the sun. He frequently began his day earlier than most others.

Levi was a morning person; Erwin was not. As Levi waited for his eyes to adjust to the mostly-dark room, he heard Erwin shift behind him in the bed. In a moment, his breathing had evened out again, making it evident that he was still fast asleep. His arm remained tossed lazily over Levi’s waist, in the same place it was when Levi first woke up. Levi rolled over again to face him, still beneath his arm. His gaze met Erwin’s peaceful expression and immediately softened from his resting scowl that was something of a default for him.

Erwin’s forehead was free of creases, his eyebrows relaxed without any sign of worry or stress. Levi could get used to seeing him like this. His blonde eyelashes seemed to brush the tops of his cheeks. In the dim light, Levi could hardly make out the light freckles that he knew were there, obscured in shadow. Erwin’s lips rested in a slight pout as he slept.

The warmth in Levi’s chest tugged also at the corners of his mouth. With no reason to suppress it, Levi allowed himself to smile. As if the rare expression had drawn his attention, Erwin’s hand twitched, brushing over the sensitive skin on Levi’s side. Levi blinked slowly, raising a hand to gently sweep Erwin’s golden hair out of his face.

Deciding he had spent an acceptable amount of time fawning over his sleeping partner, Levi slowly began to sit up, ruffling his own hair in the process. He heard Erwin take a deep breath, moving slightly against the sheets. Slowly but surely, he too was waking up.

Levi cursed himself for taking so long to get out of bed. He had grown skilled at waking up and quickly slipping out of Erwin’s gentle, sleeping grasp before he could begin to stir. Despite this fact, Levi’s stalling had led Erwin to start to wake before Levi could get up and begin his day.

Just as Levi moved to leave the bed, he felt a large hand wrap around his wrist.

“Mm… c’mere…” Erwin mumbled, tugging lightly on Levi’s arm. Levi sighed, trying to convince himself he was annoyed that his typical early-morning routine had been interrupted. With one glance towards Erwin, Levi saw the look in his heavily lidded eyes and allowed himself to be pulled back into the bed.

Warmth surrounded him as Erwin’s arms wrapped around his body, pulling him close. Levi let himself relax, temporarily relinquishing his attempts to get out of bed. He nuzzled his face into the crook of Erwin’s neck, breathing in the subtle, fresh scent of his skin.

After a few comfortable minutes, Levi noticed Erwin’s breathing had reached a steady rhythm again. With Erwin asleep once more, Levi rolled over and slowly began to slip out from under Erwin’s arm, making it almost entirely out of his grasp before he felt Erwin wrapping his arm tighter around his waist and dragging him back under the sheets.

“Just five more minutes, don’t go yet…” Erwin hummed in his voice that was still rough from sleep, as if he could sense Levi rolling his eyes.

“Erwin, come on. I need to get-”

“Five minutes,” he pleaded.

“Fine. But only five,” Levi settled.

Levi did not turn to face him again, instead letting Erwin pull him in from behind. He willed himself not to get too comfortable, despite the warmth that Erwin provided. Erwin planted a gentle kiss on the back of Levi’s shoulder before letting his head fall back to the pillow just behind Levi’s. He rustled his nose into the back of Levi’s hair, inhaling deeply once he caught the lingering scent of his shampoo.

He simply couldn’t get enough of him.

Feeling Erwin’s large hand sliding up his side, Levi squirmed. Erwin held Levi’s waist before trailing his palm up to his chest, resting his fingertips over Levi’s heart as if he sought out the gentle rhythm it provided. He held it there for a moment before letting his touch trail lower, flattening his hand against the firm planes of Levi’s stomach. Levi sighed, trying his best not to let the gentle touches get to him. He still intended to get out of bed as soon as possible.

Erwin moved to grab at Levi’s thighs, sighing next to his ear as he felt the familiar, soft give of Levi’s flesh beneath his sturdy fingers. Sensitive to the wandering touches, Levi squirmed again, this time back against Erwin as the curves of their bodies perfectly fit together. Erwin’s breath hitched as he instinctively grabbed Levi’s hips, pulling him closer.

Levi felt his face heat up, noticing that Erwin was already more than half hard.

“Hey.” Levi warned, putting a significant amount of effort into keeping his voice steady.

He felt Erwin’s fingertips dig into the flesh at his hip. This time, the kiss that Erwin left on his shoulder was wet and heavy with intention.

Finally rolling over to face him, Levi propped himself up on his elbow and shot Erwin an overly dramatic glare that lacked any true annoyance behind it.

“Would that be such a bad thing?” Erwin asked softly, biting his bottom lip.

In that instant, Levi felt as if every ounce of willpower in his body had evaporated. He had been so set on his routine, right up until that very moment. It suddenly felt like he would die if he didn’t kiss Erwin within the next few seconds.

With a sigh, he gave in, leaning down to press his lips against Erwin’s. He felt Erwin smiling against his mouth. Erwin licked at Levi’s bottom lip, encouraging him to deepen the kiss. There was little urgency behind the manner in which their tongues danced together.

The very first rays of sun broke the horizon line and it felt like they had all the time in the world.

Levi pulled away first, a single string of saliva momentarily keeping their lips connected. He slid fully back into bed, lying on his side and facing Erwin. He smiled, running his hand up the side of Erwin’s neck before cupping his face and kissing him again.

Erwin slotted one of his legs between Levi’s, savoring the quiet, muffled moan it drew from him. With gentle hands, Erwin guided the steady roll of Levi’s hips as he rutted against Erwin’s thigh. Erwin broke the kiss at just the right moment to catch the end of a whimper fall from Levi’s lips.

Levi instinctively went to cover his mouth, but Erwin grabbed his hand and brought it up to his own face instead. He gently kissed Levi’s knuckles, not once breaking eye contact as he watched Levi’s face redden in the dim light of the room.

Levi sighed Erwin’s name as he felt his fingers dip below the waistband of his boxers, tugging them down enough for Levi to squirm his way entirely out of them. Hands unsteady with anticipation, Levi did the same for Erwin.

Reaching out, Levi took hold of Erwin’s length, gently stroking him. Erwin let out a shaky breath before stilling Levi’s hand with his own.

“Come here, let me…” Erwin trailed off as he pulled Levi closer. Understanding, Levi aligned himself with Erwin, their legs entwined. He watched him raise his palm to his mouth and spit in it before lowering it again. Levi felt Erwin’s broad hand wrap around them both. They groaned in unison. Erwin kissed Levi’s forehead, brushing his nose against Levi’s.

Levi lazily captured Erwin’s bottom lip with his own, licking into his mouth once more. He was dizzy, on the verge of trembling with want as his lips muffled another moan from Erwin. His hands found their way to Erwin’s hair, giving it a gentle but firm tug as he whined. Erwin let out a tiny gasp, Levi taking advantage of his parted lips to kiss him again.

When Levi pulled away, Erwin’s gaze flickered between Levi’s dark gray eyes and his mouth, too close to take in his entire face, yet desperate to see the way he fell apart beneath his touch. Levi’s breathing quickened as he rolled his hips, reveling not only in the pace of Erwin’s hand but the warmth and firmness of Erwin’s length against his own.

“Levi,” Erwin sighed, resting his forehead against Levi’s. Levi’s exhale grew into a whimper, his brow furrowing. Erwin’s free hand grazed over the divot of Levi’s spine before moving to grab at his lower back, waist, and hips.

Their pace was still slow and languid. The sun had crested over the horizon, the early morning light spilling into the room. Levi’s eyes met Erwin’s and he was instantly caught in pools of shimmering blue, warm and gentle.

Levi could easily make out Erwin’s freckles now, despite their subtlety on his skin. He momentarily wondered if anyone else even knew that Erwin had freckles. Perhaps it was only him. Erwin’s lips glistened, practically calling Levi to kiss them again. He did so with little hesitation, slow and deep.

As each slight movement of Erwin’s hand quickened, Levi suddenly found himself needing more air. He pulled away from the kiss with a slight gasp. Erwin pressed a kiss to his jaw.

“Oh, fuck-” Levi sighed, voice breaking and eyes fluttering shut as a powerful heat spread through his body and settled in his stomach. He didn’t know when such a sense of urgency overtook him, but it had crept up on him until he was nearly trembling. His grip on Erwin’s hair tightened, his other hand traveling to Erwin’s back where his fingertips dug into the skin and muscle beneath it.

Erwin’s lips parted in a broken sigh and Levi could feel the warmth of his breath on his face. It was intoxicating. Levi’s eyes opened just enough to see Erwin’s disheveled hair and flushed cheeks before his vision seemed to blur again as he whined.

Nudging his forehead against Levi’s, Erwin just barely slowed the pace of his hand enough in an attempt to prolong the feeling.

Levi nearly made the effort to speak, to beg. His mind was clouded with a thick haze that made it impossible to think with clarity. He thrust into Erwin’s closed fist, sliding against him.

He mouthed at Erwin’s lips, waiting for Erwin to initiate and kiss him properly. Erwin let his eyes fall shut again and kissed Levi with such tenderness that Levi fell apart nearly instantly. With a well-angled thrust into Erwin’s hand at the exact moment he kissed him, Levi’s back arched and he let out a broken whine that Erwin swore sounded like his name. He guided Levi through his high with a firm yet gentle hand, each stroke eliciting a perfectly reckless gasp that rivaled the last.

Just as Levi’s eyes became glossy as a result of his sudden sensitivity, Erwin let out a groan that undoubtedly indicated he was close.

“Look at me, Erwin,” Levi whispered with an unsteady voice. Erwin met his eyes and his mouth fell open with a choked gasp. Heat rippled through his body, his trembling hand still working himself through the euphoric sensation as he came. Levi felt his hips jerk and his movements becoming erratic as it all became too much for him to bear.

Erwin’s hand slowed to a halt, the only sound in the room being the two offset paces of heavy breathing that eventually overlapped.

Levi’s hands rested idly in front of his face. Erwin brought his clean hand to one of Levi’s, their fingers intertwining as if it was what they were made to do. The sun was now bright enough to become something of a nuisance for Erwin, forcing him to close his eyes. To Levi, he glowed in the soft light as he brought Levi’s hand up to his face and softly kissed the back of it, still catching his breath.

He pulled Levi close to his chest, nuzzling his face into Levi’s tousled black hair and kissing the top of his head.

The two stayed there for a few minutes, resting in the afterglow that could just as easily have been the sunrise. Of course, after some time, Levi finally managed to squirm out of Erwin’s grasp to get cleaned up. Erwin said he would get up in a few more minutes.

Levi cleaned himself up, got dressed, and returned quickly with tea and a promise to wash the sheets once Erwin was up.

He placed the tray with two cups of tea on the bedside table before leaning down, kissing Erwin’s forehead, and ruffling his hair. With a tired smile and flushed cheeks, Erwin finally sat up, holding up a hand to shield his eyes from the sun that had now truly begun to rise. It sat eagerly above the distant hills, the day ahead still young.

Levi got up to close the blinds so that Erwin wouldn’t have to squint.
