Knowing Me, Knowing You

Summary:

Dan Heng was well aware this was not his typical haunt. The Saturday nights he tended toward were characterized by reading or – a guilty pleasure – getting takeout from his favorite Chinese restaurant and watching donghua. But when he meets the captivating Evernight in a nightclub, will his fascination turn carnal...

Notes:

...or is it just a bit of kinky roleplay after all?

Spoilers, it's the second. Surprise, it's March 7th, which means March's birthday, which also means I'm trying something new: smut.

Never done this before, but who knows maybe it'll tug at a heartstring or two!

Anyway, Happy Birthday, March 7th!

Work Text:

Dan Heng was well aware this was not his typical haunt. The Saturday nights he tended toward were characterized by reading or – a guilty pleasure – getting takeout from his favorite Chinese restaurant and watching one of the many donghua Bailu would send him a TikTok of, usually alongside a paragraph filled with heart-eye emoticons gushing about the “hot guy” who played leading man.

In Dan Heng’s defense, this particular guilty pleasure had only started recently, and he figured that as long as his roommate did not mind, it was not that big a deal. Still, he did get a smug sense of satisfaction in sending Bailu back a paragraph explaining how unrealistic the body standards of the “hot guy” were in these shows, mostly to get under her skin.

Nonetheless, he was already at the doors, and his roommate had insisted this was “the one and only place to be on a Saturday night,” and he was not so set in his ways as to not “live a little” (once again, the words of Caelus Stellaron).

“Come on, man, we gotta hurry! Firefly’s waiting,” Caelus begged, presenting Dan Heng with what must have been his best attempt at puppy eyes. Dan Heng thought it looked more like Caelus was working on a comedy routine, but he adjusted his vest and then the cuffs of his dress shirt, straightening everything once more before looking up at the sign bearing the name “The Parlor Car” and pushing the doors to the nightclub open.

The music was the first thing Dan Heng noticed; a local band calling itself Wonweek was performing a rather upbeat melody that he had to admit was extremely catchy. The lead singer looked to be a young woman dressed as an angel, her accompaniment an equally young man in similar garb behind an electric synthesizer. As Dan Heng pushed through a throng of dancing youths, the current song ended, and the young woman onstage stepped behind a DJ setup to launch into another pop song that he did not know, but one that nonetheless set the mood for the club. He could feel eyes on him as he walked through the dance floor – not that surprising, of course, since he was a tall man and was, so he was told, reasonably attractive.

He debated whether or not he wanted to approach the bar. He did not really enjoy alcohol that much (in fact, it made him quite nauseous when he drank), and even if he did, someone had to get the car back to campus. Caelus was probably going home with his girlfriend tonight, and he was fairly confident his roommate would not remain sober enough to drive in any case. Thus, Dan Heng had yet another excuse not to get even the slightest bit buzzed.

As the crowd parted, however, his eyes fell on one of the patrons leaning against the wooden countertop, and his heart leapt into his throat. Caelus had been droning on about one thing or another, and Dan Heng had been giving him polite grunts of affirmation, but even the airheaded boy noticed his roommate’s attention waver.

The object of Dan Heng’s focus now was a young woman in a black dress, mid-length pink hair spilling over her shoulders and pinned back behind her ear with a clip resembling a flower. The dress’s skirt was above the woman’s knees, and her extremities were bare. She held a small glass and took a sip or two as Dan Heng watched. She was utterly breathtaking, in Dan Heng’s opinion. Every hand motion as she spoke, the way her legs crossed and uncrossed casually, the turn of her head each time she laughed –

Well, who needed alcohol when Dan Heng felt so enraptured by this coy beauty?

Caelus’s current thought trailed off as he finally caught on to Dan Heng’s waning interest in his latest escapades. “Dan Heng, are you list–, oh!” The silver-haired man’s face twisted into a smirk. “I see how it is, mister,” he teased.

Dan Heng’s attention snapped away from the woman and he scowled at his cheeky roommate. “You saw nothing,” he deadpanned.

Caelus snickered and shoved Dan Heng toward the bar. “I gotta find my girlfriend, but you have fun!” He scampered off with a whoop, and Dan Heng realized that there were only two options here:

A). Stand in the middle of a crowded dance floor like a tall, awkward caterpillar, or

B). Go to the bar and try to talk.

It was an easy choice.

Dan Heng pushed past two very enthusiastic (and likely very inebriated) girls who he assumed were probably freshmen with fake licenses, both of which were staring intently into one another’s eyes as they belted the lyrics to the current pop hit. “Excuse me,” he half-whispered, and placed a gentle hand on one girl’s (a redhead) back and gave an apologetic nod, lips pressed tight, to the other (an athletic brunette he actually recognized: Li Sushang from fencing club).

At the bar counter, the girl was desperately trying to ward off a man who was apparently trying to impress her with all of his latest business ventures and stock trades. She was sure that all of that would be very impressive if it was remotely something she cared about, but as it stood, the International Peace Corporation intern was about as engaging as a pesky younger brother. As he droned on, animatedly waving his hands as he worked himself into a frenzy (probably assisted by the second shot of vodka in his hand), her gaze wandered.

That is, until her eyes landed on the tall figure crossing the room, and she drank in the sight of an impeccably dressed college student in a black undershirt, green vest, and one long earring that looped in on itself. He also sported a swatch of red eyeliner under one eye, though this asymmetry was certainly appealing. He’s beautiful, she thought. She pushed off from the counter and turned to her conversational companion. “That’s so interesting, Skott!” She said, trying to make her eyes look bright and attentive. Hopefully Skott was too sloshed to notice her furtive glances elsewhere. She could not see where he was looking, not with those round sunglasses he probably thought were a fashion statement, but from the way he barreled on conversationally, she doubted he was thinking about more than his own ego. She took another sip of her mocktail and closed her eyes a moment, savoring the fruity drink.

Dan Heng wanted to play it cool at first, and fitting in would require the guise of engaging with the culture. He stepped up to the bar and made eye contact with the mixologist, a portly man with a gray mustache, and held up a finger. “May I get a Shirley Temple? With ice,” he asked. He deliberately did his best not to stare at the very attractive girl not even ten feet from him now.

The bartender chortled as he scooped ice into the cup. “You may have anything on the menu. Free country and all,” he quipped, smiling wide, but at Dan Heng’s straight face, proceeded on wordlessly.

The girl patted Skott’s arm after another sip of her drink. “Good luck with the internship, I’m sure they love you over there,” she awkwardly said, and Skott’s face flashed with irritation, but he did not protest outside of simply grumbling, “You’ll see one day.”

The bartender slid the small glass across the bar top and Dan Heng handed the man his debit card.

“Well hello there!” a chipper voice greeted Dan Heng, and he looked up to see the girl he had been looking at across the room. “Come here often?” she asked, planting her elbows on the bar and looking up at him. “I know I don’t.”

Dan Heng shook his head. “Can’t say I do. I tend to prefer quieter places.”

The girl pushed a loose lock of hair behind her ear and smiled. “No offense, but I can tell. You look like a shark out of water.”

“A shark?”

“You’re scary cute,” she said with a shrug. “Anyhow. I’m Evernight!” she placed her hand down on top of his, which was resting on the countertop.

“A pseudonym?” Dan Heng asked, one eyebrow raised.

“Guilty,” Evernight said with a smirk.

“Dan Heng,” he replied. “Not a pseudonym.”

“Dan Heng…Dan Heng…,” Evernight tapped his hand with her fingers while she held her chin in thought with the other hand. “You go to Akivili, right?”

“I do,” he confirmed. “Junior in Biology.”

“I do, too!” Evernight grinned. “Junior in Journalism. You might have seen some of my stuff in the Ambrosial Arbor, if you read it.”

“I have picked up the university magazine on occasion,” he acknowledged, taking a sip of his cherry-flavored concoction. “Though I confess I haven’t come across your name.”

Evernight’s eyes sparkled as she sipped at her mocktail. “You don’t seem that comfy here. Not used to the clerb?”

Dan Heng let out a dry chuckle. “Is it that obvious?”

Evernight tapped her lips with her finger and rolled her eyes to fix him with a lazy but coy smile. “I can read you like a book, mister.”

“Oh, can you?” Dan Heng hummed, setting his glass down and looking directly into her bi-tone blue and pink eyes. Gorgeous, he thought again.

“Yep!”

“Then what am I thinking now?” Dan Heng asked, resting his chin in his palm and planting his elbow firmly on the counter.

“That I’m a cute girl and that you want to dance with me,” Evernight giggled. Dan Heng’s heart fluttered at the sound of her laughter, so light and free.

“My, my, you are a mind reader,” Dan Heng replied, allowing a slight smile to tug at his lips. He slipped his hand into hers and stepped back from the bar. “Come on then, Miss Evernight.”

And dance they did. Evernight was effortlessly graceful and lithe, a true diva. He would not have been shocked to learn that she danced for her high school team all four years. As she completed a twirl that fanned out the hem of her skirt, he caught her and allowed himself to smile again. She caught his eye with that charming grin of hers, her glances leaving him feeling strangely energized.

Dan Heng, Evernight noticed, was not a great dancer. Oh, he had the gentle motions and the grace of a dancer, but the kind of dancing that would be more appropriate for a formal wedding or cotillion. As it stood now, his fluid movements were unpurposed, undirected. It was one of the most adorable things Evernight had ever witnessed. With dress shirt sleeves rolled up to his biceps, she could see the full range of his forearms, nicked with scars and dusted in a layer of short, black hair. He looked strong. She liked strong. Strong meant safe, and she had never felt safer than with this tall, dark-haired man. Even as Dan Heng fumbled with the freer, looser maneuvers of freestyle club dancing, she could tell Dan Heng was attempting to follow her lead, taking her hand and dipping her and injecting some of his traditional motifs into her modern style. It worked better than she would have expected. As the music hummed louder and more frenzied, Evernight found herself pulling closer and closer to her dance partner, and soon they were face to face, eyes locked, breaths short, hearts pounding.

Dan Heng was the first to break, his lips brushing her ear and whispering, “I think I’m going to kiss you now.” She looked up, eyes wide, and nodded slightly. With her adoring permission, he pressed his lips to Evernight’s with ferocity unbecoming of such a refined gentleman. As he pulled back, his chest rose and fell with shallow breaths.

“I hope that was not too forward,” he said softly, brushing a hair that had shaken loose from her clip behind her ear with two fingers.

She broke next, kissing him again, stars exploding in her chest as she put a hand on his dress shirt and curled her fingers. His lips were warm, a little chapped in the winter but not unpleasant, and oh, so soft. He deepened the kiss, parting ever so slightly as if to say, All I am, take it.

So they danced. They danced across the floor, becoming more secure in their rhythm. They danced to a corner where Dan Heng planted soft kisses down her jaw, to the small bit of neck he could reach which her dress did not cover, but always gentle. She liked gentle. They danced to the door, where she shoved him against the frame and pressed a kiss to his cheek and whispered, “I don’t want to be along tonight.”

The look in her dance partner’s eyes told her she would not be.

As they crashed through the doors to his dormitory, Evernight wasted no time in reaching for the buttons holding Dan Heng’s dress shirt shut. Inch after inch of his skin revealed itself to him, and she spun him, his knees catching against the armrest of the loveseat and almost tripping him as her lips sought every delectable morsel. He tasted salty, like the sweat he had worked up dancing, and smelled half like that sweat and half like the cologne he had tastefully sprayed himself with earlier. Dan Heng placed one hand on her shoulder and the other on her cheek, tilting her face to meet his again. He then let go to finish the job for her, unbuttoning the rest of the way and then untucking the shirt to throw it behind.

“I…I want you, mm – Evernight,” he groaned, his breath catching as she kissed his exposed pectoral. “Badly.”

She silenced him with a finger to his lips, and he placed his hand on the small of her back to pull her in close. His fingers dug in as she sought out his pleasurable spots, giving each a small peck, and a final prolonged nip at his exposed right nipple. Dan Heng groaned, eyes shutting at the sensation, and he trailed his hand down to her ass, cupping the ample flesh in his hand. Her short dress made it oh, so easy to touch her skin, to feel it goosebump under his touch.

“So. Fucking. Bad.”

Evernight squeaked in surprise as Dan Heng lifted her up, still gentle as ever but with renewed purpose. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he carried her toward a closed door. Her heart thundered in her ears in anticipation. “Oh, fuck yes,” she whispered. Score!

He clicked the door open with his hand while using a knee to support her back – a little uncomfortable but she would not complain much while her libido was so high – and then carried her inside to deposit her on her back. He crawled onto the bed next to her, and she leaned up on her elbow, looking deep into the windows to his soul.

“You’re sure about this?” Dan Heng asked, a small mote of worry creasing the corners of his mouth.

Evernight scooted closer and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “It’s already better than I coulda expected.”

Dan Heng kissed her again and assisted her out of her dress. It crumpled in a pile at the foot of the bed and Evernight kicked it as far as she could. She smiled through the kiss at the whump indicating its fall. Now clad only in bra and shorts, he fumbled for the clasp to separate the cups, and finally parted the material to let her sizable breasts out, only to replace the fabric’s support with that of his hand. Evernight took a shaky breath as his thumb wandered over her pale areolae and then nipples reverently, worshipfully.

Dan Heng nibbled at her earlobe and then worked his way down her nape, shoulder, collarbone, and then to the space between her breasts, giving each the love they deserved. Evernight’s hands tangled in his hair, stroking his short locks and loving the way her fingers ran through the soft fibers. Next his lips found her nipple and he sucked the flesh there, not so hard as to leave any mark but enough to stimulate every nerve under the sensitive bud. “More…please,” she gasped, nearly a prayer.

“As you wish, darling,” Dan Heng murmured, and he ministered to the breast he held as if it were life itself. He laid another trail of kisses down past her navel to the waistband of her shorts, one hand on her thigh and the other gently massaging her chest. Her abdomen flexed and unflexed as she felt the impossibly cold fire race through her nervous system, small whines escaping her mouth as he did so.

Then he knelt before her and kissed her thigh where he had been holding, and Evernight felt the warmth spread between her legs. It felt inflamed – not painful, but swollen and hot – and slick. Her pussy craved touch, touch that only he knew how to give.

Dan Heng looked up from his kneeling position, making eye contact with her as if to say, Is this alright? Evernight whined a little at the sudden loss of stimulation but nodded. “It’s okay. You can take them off, Dan Heng,” she said as she patted the top of his messy hair. “I want this.”

He wasted not a second more, sliding the shorts and panties off in a fluid motion, only waiting a moment to let her kick up her feet and slip the fabric past her ankles. He fell upon her now unclothed pussy with affection, kissing the carefully trimmed mons with delicate pecks and the creases of her groin with more force. His hand now found its way to the dip in her pelvis, applying just a bit of pressure as she willingly parted her legs, finally revealing the treasure he sought within. His tongue struck out, probing at her labia, and she gasped at the sensation, the hand in his hair tightening a little. He grunted from the pain, and she relented with a hastily whispered, “Sorry,” which morphed into an open-mouthed moan as he began to kiss and devour what felt like her very essence. His thumb found the hood of her clitoris and pulled it back to expose her erectile tissue, and he applied firm but gentle pressure.

“Dan Hnnnngh!” she cried, spurring him on to eat her out quicker. Each flick of his tongue sent a shiver up her core, and he felt a burst of satisfaction with every whimper and cry he elicited from her. She was salty, a little sweet, delightful, delicious, but what sealed the deal for Dan Heng was the smell. Partially whatever perfume she used, but additionally some deeply primal, biological scent that was uniquely her. There was no smell like it in the world. He would not want there to be another like it.

As he lapped up her dribbling juices, Evernight felt a sort of pressure build within her, a pleasant tension ebbing and flowing like waves on a seashore. “Just like that, yes,” she whimpered. “I’m getting close, don’t stop, just like that,” she repeated. He obliged, and as the pressure built, her cries became louder, more intense, until she felt the pleasure recede all at once. It was the calm before the tsunami, the gathering stormcloud before a deluge.

“Dan Heng, I’m coming,” she warned him, barely audible, and Dan Heng braced his hand on her hip to steady her. “Fuck!” she gritted her teeth and let herself go, the pleasure erupting inside her in waves. It lit up her body like a Christmas tree, every nerve in her body firing at once and causing her arms, legs, and especially her pussy to tighten up.

Besides a high-pitched squeak followed by a gasp, he could have missed it if not for being so in tune with her body that he felt her tense up. His tongue continued drinking from her fountain, reveling in the deliciousness within, until her muscles stopped tensing up and the main part of her orgasm was complete. Only when he was sure she was finished did he lift his head to watch her breasts rise and fall with exertion. He crawled up closer to her and wiped his lips before kissing her chin, then cheek, then forehead gently, absolving her.

“You did so well, Ma – Evernight,” he said, cupping the back of her occiput to rest her forehead against his. He stayed there, ministering to her with small kisses on the nose and cheeks that made her giggle while his heart slowed back to its base rate – not an easy task when every giggle made him so joyful! “Damn it, I think I broke character. I’m sorry, March.”

March Seventh pulled herself into his chest and pressed a thousand kisses to his ribs, his pectorals, his abs, his arm – any exposed skin she could reach from her position. “It’s okay, you goober,” she laughed, flashing him a playful look. “You played your part perfectly.”

He smiled softly before he tilted her chin to stare into her blue-pink irises. “It was so hard not to tell you how much I loved you the whole time. To pretend I was a stranger taking you home in a fit of passion. It’s not a role I take on easily.” He quirked a small, barely-perceptible smile. “But when you asked,” he said, then paused. “When you asked for this scene from your books, I must admit I was intrigued.”

March kissed his nose. “How many times did Caelus almost make you break character?”

Dan Heng groaned, “Don’t even ask; he teased me the whole way to the club, and I saw him watching us dance a few times.”

“When he wasn’t making out with Firefly, you mean,” March teased.

“Correct,” Dan Heng hummed his agreement.

March stretched her arms and then said, “Dan Heng?”

“Yes, love?”

“Let me make you feel good. Please, Dan Heng?” she begged, giving him the most adorable puppy eyes.

Dan Heng’s heart melted at the sight. “If you want to, but you’ve already done enough to satisfy me for life.”

“Nuh uh,” she protested, and palmed his semi-erect cock through his pants. “I’m not done, and I don’t think you are either.”

Dan Heng gave an exaggerated sigh. “You’re right, of course.”

March put a hand on her hip, mouth agape for a moment. “Did you just admit I was right?”

“It may happen again,” Dan Heng said with a shrug.

She reached for the button on his cream-colored dress pants and released them, then unzipped the rest of the way. Equally easily, she made quick work of his boxers, exposing his rapidly re-hardening dick to the air. “God, Dan Heng, you’re so beautiful,” she praised. His dick twitched in response, and she smirked. “You like when I praise you; don’t you even try to bullshit me.”

“Perhaps,” Dan Heng said, though a flush had overcome his face. He did not resist when she climbed onto his lap, pushed him back, and whispered in his ear.

“Let me ride you, babe.”

As their hips met, gravity doing most of the initial work, his hands grabbed her waist, causing her to gasp and blush. Her hands anchored themselves on his pectorals, and she maintained eye contact, pink hair sweaty, messy, but still ethereally beautiful as it hung around her determined face. She lifted her pelvis off him and then brought it back down with a wet, visceral noise. She squeaked in embarrassment at the sound, and Dan Heng cupped her cheek.

“Shhh, it’s alright. I don’t mind the sounds as long as it’s you and me.”

His hands helped her to move, a gentle rhythm back and forth, and his thumbs lazily moved up and down her abdomen, worshipfully tracing her soft, pale flesh. Dan Heng’s dick may not have been the largest, but it still filled her wonderfully, just right for her. It felt hot and alive within her, stiffening and relaxing with each thrust of her hips on him, and his panting, short breaths indicated to March that he was enjoying this just as much as she.

She picked up the pace, and Dan Heng moaned, “March…my March,” and used his right hand to cradle the back of her neck. He pulled her closer to him, her tits pressed against his strong chest, and he kissed her, a trail of saliva connecting them briefly before they parted. Dan Heng’s dark eyes sparkled as he gazed at her lovingly.

“Happy birthday, darling,” he said. “Among your many gifts, I hope this was comparable.”

She melted, tears springing to her eyes, and she touched her right earlobe, where a gorgeous diamond earring hung. “If it’s you.”

As Dan Heng made love to his adorable girlfriend, another orgasm crested within her, and she kissed him passionately as it broke on his shore. He held her tenderly and kissed across the span of her face, swallowing up her tears with adoration.

She knew, even as he cried out and filled her with his love, that whatever lay ahead, she wanted it to be with him.

He knew, even as he handed March a water bottle and carried her to the shower, that she was his forever.

And all the while, every kiss said, I love you. I am yours. Body and soul, I know you, and you know me.
