ABSOLUTE SONIC

Summary:

In an alternate universe, Mobius we know is not the same, here, our heroes do not posses Natural aspects of themselves, and their origins, go against everything they are, and hope will be something to be fought for in order to achieve it.

Notes:

While I'm not writing "Sonic Shattered," I'll be writing another long story, and taking advantage of the fact that I've been reading Absolute Batman, and I loved the concept of a universe where the characters lose a natural aspect of themselves.

And since it's a reinterpretation of the Sonic universe, I might adapt some games, possibly Adventure 2 and Shadow (2005).

And as you can see, I'm not writing in the language I used for Sonic Shattered, and I want to make it clear that, English is not my native language, so there may be errors that I would appreciate being corrected.

Chapter 1: The fastest thing alive

Chapter Text

On an isolated island, known to all as "South Island," which was considered a tourist spot by everyone for its beautiful environments and flora, such as the verdant Green Hill, or the ancient ruins of Marble Zone, a place that held mysteries, questions, and unanswered theories of an ancient civilization that became extinct over the centuries.

The only sources of life on this island were the flickies and non-Mobian animals, except…

A large trail of dust rose along the green paths of Green Hill, too fast to be seen with the naked eye, but what was running ahead was a young male Mobian hedgehog, its feet tapping incessantly in a perfect rhythm.

The hedgehog was described as having striking and remarkable features: long, pointed spines, white gloves, red sneakers with white stripes and yellow buckles, blue fur, beige arms, snout, and chest, and a strong, vibrant emerald green eye.

However, his gaze didn't reflect the thrill of using speed or having the wind blow in his face, but rather the desire for something he was searching for.

As he ran, he came upon high ground, where, using the momentum from his high speed, he managed to make precise leaps, jumping to the top and enjoying a better view of Green Hill and the beautiful splendor of the sun.

The blue blur that had been running slowed his feet on the ground to observe the sunrise.

“The view here is so incredible, it takes some of the weight off the questions I don’t have answers to.”

The blue hedgehog was smiling, even if his smile was to disguise his eagerness for answers.

"There are so many questions, because compared to other Mobians, hedgehogs are so rare. I've seen foxes, walruses, coyotes, rabbits, but I've never seen a hedgehog like me, and I've also never seen anyone with the same abilities as me. I love my super speed, but it doesn't satisfy my unanswered questions. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one of my kind, but is that true? Mobius is too big a world to even consider that."

Then small blue rays began to emanate from his body, rays that had always been natural to him, something from birth, and yet another unanswered question. And then, without warning, he began to stomp his feet one after the other and ran.

While running for a long time, the cobalt blue hedgehog didn't notice something. In the distance, near a forest in Green Hill, there were what appeared to be four containers, all black in color, with two small red rectangles on each side that glowed and emitted warning sounds. When these sounds ceased, the door lifted from the bottom up.

The first thing to emerge from each of the four containers were drones, a total of four. These drones were spherical, their color palette was solely white, and they had a red dot in the center to reflect their field of vision.

Soon after the drones emerged, humanoid beings with mechanical features, ten more from each of the four containers, marched until they were all lined up.

The robotic beings were described as being over 2 meters tall, with spherical heads and red visors. Their chests, shoulders, legs, and forearms were white, their necks and hips were dark, and it appeared that the wires and circuits were visible outside the layers of white-painted metal.

One of them stepped out of the large line and faced the others.

“INITIATING SCAN OF ARTIFACT LOCATION” – the robotic being's voice was cold as a blade, devoid of any emotion or life.

Through the red visor on its head, it created a holographic copy of the southern island, including data about its history, different environments, and architecture, but the main focus was on a part near Green Hill; an icon was placed over a region of the area, marking it.

“SCANNING COMPLETED, ROUTE TO ARTIFACT ESTABLISHED”

And with the order given, the robots, along with the drones, began to move towards their next destination, and shortly after they arrived at their point. Some of the robots were carrying jackhammers and using them against a cave in the Green Hill flora, while trying to break through the enormous rock wall. While some of the robots were digging, the others patrolled the perimeter.

Near where the robots were, the cobalt blue hedgehog, who was still running, stopped upon noticing the presence of the robotic humanoids trying to break through a stone wall with jackhammers.

“Wow, robots, I’ve never seen one so close up. I mean, I’ve seen delivery drones and stuff, but seeing one with a body and everything is quite different – he stopped, looking at their heads, where he chuckled – their heads look like eggs.”

One of the patrol robots, which was looking around, came across a flickie staring at the robots at the excavation site.

“INITIATE SECONDARY OBJECTIVE OF ARTIFACT EXTRACTION, ELIMINATE ANY FORM OF ORGANIC LIFE AND WITNESSES” – the robot's arm then emerged as a machine gun and pointed it at the flickie.

Then, before the robot realized it, the flickie had disappeared, and it only fired at an empty tree.

A blue figure stopped, and in its hands, it released the flickie, which flew away, and glared angrily at the robot.

“Hey, what's your problem? You almost killed that flickie, you metalhead!”

exclaimed the hedgehog indignantly.

And now the robot's attention was focused on it.

“ANALYZING LIFE FORM, SPECIES: MALE MOBIAN HEDGEHOG, ANY AND ALL LIFE FORMS THAT BECOME A WITNESS MUST BE ELIMINATED” – the phrase was clear, the hedgehog's death was its top priority.

Then, without warning, the robot began firing at the hedgehog.

“WHOA!” – the hedgehog began to run desperately, trying to survive the barrage of shots fired at it.

‘What do these guys want? Eliminate me? Just because I saw them doing whatever it was?’ – thought the hedgehog as it dodged the shots and the bullets.

The hedgehog then finally escaped and hid behind a rock.

“SPREAD OUT AND SEARCH FOR THE TARGET, IT MUST BE NEARBY” – the patrol robot told its counterparts, as they searched every corner of the forest, giving the others time to dig.

“Those scrap-headed idiots think I can’t defend myself? I’ll prove them wrong real quick!” – the blue blur then emerged from its hiding place and ran to find the shooting robots.

Then the robots noticed the hedgehog approaching them, and they responded with shots and volleys at the blue hedgehog.

While running, it took advantage of a moment and curled into a ball, throwing itself at a robot. Its spines were sharp enough to easily tear someone apart, but in the robot's case, they destroyed the metal plates, turning them into scrap metal and wires.

A nearby robot, instead of using the machine guns attached to its arms, had claw-like blades. It tried to attack the blue blur, who dodged each attack, and then jumped over an attack and threw itself like a ball, hitting its arm and tearing it off.

“You dropped that, buddy!” – with superhuman skill, the hedgehog grabbed the bladed arm and plunged it into the robot's spherical head, finishing it off for good.

And he continued attacking and destroying the other robots that tried to attack him, both the shooters and the users of those claws.

Then, in the sky, a burst of shots was aimed at the hedgehog on solid ground, who athletically dodged them. He looked up, noticing four drones targeting him with a red laser light. Without wasting any time, the hedgehog began to run and dodge the shots from the spherical drones. Besides running, he made several leaps between the earthen walls and trees of the Green Hill region, and using this to his advantage, he ran to a part of the road that, ironically, resembled a ramp. Upon crossing it, he curled up into a ball shape again and hit the first drone. In succession, he hit a pair of drones in sequence, and after destroying the last one, he landed safely on the ground with a mocking smile.

“This homing ball attack isn’t bad at all, I’d only used it on stacked stone targets I made, I think I know what name to choose – the hedgehog had a finger on the underside of its snout as if thinking, until it snapped its fingers after a moment – homing attack, that will be the name.”

And with the robots destroyed, he then saw that the robots that had been digging had disappeared, and that there was now a large hole in the said stone wall.

Curious, he entered through the newly opened passage and entered what looked like a temple. There were several figures drawn in the shape of what appeared to be people, but small, possibly Mobians from the past. Perhaps they were the ones who created the ruins of Marble Zone. The species was unknown, and how ancient it was remained even more of a mystery.

But a sound brought the hedgehog's Focus back to life.

“ARTIFACT LOCATION FOUND, START PHASE 2 AND SEARCH FOR THE ARTIFACT”

The blue hedgehog, who until then had been hiding in a pillar of the secret temple, overheard the conversation of the last two robots.

“I heard that robot that tried to shoot that Flickie say something about an ‘artifact,’ but what could that be, a treasure perhaps?”

Without wasting time, he jumped over the first robot, while the other was now paying attention to the hedgehog.

“Sorry to interrupt your bub’s big talk, but I heard something about an artifact, Y’know, I couldn't help but get curious,” the hedgehog mocked, while his only response was that the robot in front of him pointed its arm at him, and then fired a shot.

The hedgehog jumped with quick reaction time, and the shot only hit the face of its robotic counterpart. The hedgehog curled into a ball and launched an attack at the robot on the ground, hitting it repeatedly until it was completely neutralized.

“Phew! I think that’s it for everyone. What kind of person creates robots like that, invades an island to find something and kills anyone who knows anything? Man, that’s really creepy, I don’t want to meet that guy,” said the hedgehog.

Then the hedgehog felt something that made its quills bristle; it was something calling to it, and it was deeper into the secret temple.

Guided only by its instinct, it entered a corridor, and after crossing it, the hedgehog entered a huge chamber. Ahead of it was a small staircase, where there was a small pedestal containing a red gem, which seemed to have a diamond shape, of a medium size large enough to fit in someone's hand.

“Whoam, check out” – the hedgehog approached the pedestal, and before he could even think about touching it, on the front wall, there were more of those inscriptions made by that unknown Mobian species, and on the main wall, there was a large creature, resembling a dragon but not quite, and it also had something similar to scales and tentacles on it, and the floor of the inscription looked like an ocean.

“Whoever this civilization is, what were they trying to convey with this before they disappeared?” – the hedgehog asked curiously.

But then the hedgehog decided to remove the strange red gem from the pedestal, and upon touching it, he felt a great energy emanating from it, both positive and negative, like a balance of yin and yang, and very close to something supernatural or mystical.

“W-what is this?!” The blue rays that the hedgehog had produced an hour ago were sparkling on his body, and seemed to react to the red gem, until he managed to remove it from the pedestal, and then both his rays and the gem's rays gradually disappeared.

“What in Gaia’s name was that?” – without wanting to know, he just shakes his head and leaves that strange temple.

And as he exits, he could finally glimpse the pleasant sunlight penetrating his blue skin and fur.

“Yep, Sonic the Hedgehog, you just got yourself into trouble when your main priority was not getting involved,” said the hedgehog, finally revealing his true name.

Central City/ E.G.G Enterprises

E.G.G Enterprises was, without a doubt, the largest billion-dollar technological empire in the world, second only to the G.U.N. military force. Its advancements in engineering, technology, and even robotics contributed greatly to everyone in Mobius, and the same was expected in politics. Its owner?

It was the philanthropist Julian Ivo Robotnik, genius, scientist, magnate, and also known as the Man of the Millennium. He was the most famous public figure and owner of E.G.G. Enterprises. Although he could be arrogant towards his scientist and roboticist rivals, he still maintained the persona of a man of expensive tastes and impeccable presence.

This was the image that everyone on Mobius, and even G.U.N., had of him, but in reality, he had his own agenda, an agenda that would shake the world of Mobius and everyone in it.

In an isolated location within his main facility, located in Central City, a place unknown to anyone, not even the E.G.G. Enterprise employees, except his right-hand man, and of course, Robotnik himself.

The environment was a room full of wires, monitors with a high-quality operating console, and a figure sat in a chair with its back turned, its true identity obscured by its hand resting on the armrest.

The figure hidden in the chair was looking at several monitors displaying multiple data and information.

Then, the door to the room opened, revealing a man with dark skin, dark clothing with a purple tie, and black hair.

“Sir, I bring news about the emerald extraction on South Island, and…” – the man was nervous about saying the rest.

“And what, Stone?” – said the man behind the chair expectantly, almost wishing there were no mistakes.

“T-the Swatbots we sent to South Island, we lost connection with both them and the drones, and the energy signature of the emerald somehow disappeared.”

“THEY WHAT?!” – the voice exasperated, disbelieving and angry, as slammed his hand on the arm of the chair.

“I-I believe, sir, that something or someone destroyed them. The lack of connection with the swatbots would only be possible if they had been deactivated or…”

“Destroyed, but that would be impossible, Stones. I created them with one of the best metals and the best armor, enough to withstand firearms of the caliber of the G.U.N., and even if it was someone, there shouldn't be any life or civilians living on this island besides a few measly little animals.” – Then the man stood up. He was tall compared to his assistant, his hair was brown in a combed-back style, he wore a dark overcoat with small scarlet stripes, black sneakers, white skin, red glasses, and his face sported a mustache.

He began walking across a closed iron door with a small keypad displaying numbers. The mustachioed man clicked the buttons to activate the correct code, causing the door to open from the bottom up. Inside, a capsule was revealed containing the same gem Sonic had retrieved from the temple, now white in color.

“And whoever it is will know who they’re dealing with, and that very soon I will have the other six Chaos Emeralds,” he uttered menacingly, his eyes fixed on the white emerald.
