Work Text:
Nami takes a breath as she leans against the railing of The Going Merry, letting the cool night air blow past her, orange strands of her hair fluttering in the breeze.
It's nice out here, this late at night. Quiet. Peaceful.
She loves everyone on board - dearly - but sometimes quiet is nice. Sometimes it's needed. During the day there's always three people screaming, minimum. Now with Chopper on board, even with them sailing to Alabasta and it being relatively easygoing, there's usually two people training on the deck, the sound of Zorro's weights, Usopp telling some form of 'story' and Luffy being….Luffy.
Right now though….there's nothing.
There's just Nami, leaning against the railing where just days ago, a scary mysterious raven haired woman in a small purple outfit had ambushed them and threatened their lives.
Nami suddenly knows how Sanji feels whenever they come across a pretty girl.
She's really not sure what to do with it. With how the images of the woman - Miss All Sunday - appear in her head late at night when she's tossing and turning in bed and trying to sleep. The way that she sounded and how soothing her voice was. How good she looked, and how even with the way she was threatening and trying to direct them, Nami couldn't stop her gaze from falling to the woman's chest.
Nami's never felt that way before. Not with a woman. It's confusing.
Women are pretty. She's known that for years. It's not a secret.
There's a difference between thinking women are pretty though, and the way that Nami's mind is making her think of Miss All Sunday.
Nami isn't sure what she would have done if she saw Miss All Sunday on Drum Island. She was there - even before Vivi mentioned she ran into her, Nami just knew she was there - and behind Wapol getting his Devil Fruit, but what she's actually trying to do, Nami's still not really sure. All that Nami knows is that whenever she thinks of her, she pictures Miss All Sunday sitting on railing of The Going Merry. The very spot Nami is leaning against right now.
She thinks of how pretty she was. Of how her accent sounded. Of how much Nami wants to kiss her and…
Oh. That's new. She's never wanted to kiss a girl before.
She doesn't think she has anyway.
That's confusing.
She doesn't know what to do with that.
"Nami? Are you…."
Nami's eyes shoot wide open. She didn't even realize that she had closed her eyes.
This is bad
"Up here!" Nami calls back, because even if she's working through something, Vivi must be feeling something too. She's going through a lot more than Nami's little sexuality crisis - what Miss All Sunday said to her on Drum Island, everything on Drum Island and now the very fact that they're on the way to be Alabasta - so it's no surprise that she can't sleep either. Nami honestly feels a little bit silly in comparison. "Couldn't sleep?"
"No," Vivi sighs, groaning softly as she takes the steps up one at a time. She mentioned the other day that she's still a little sore from Drum Island, and Nami feels her body pang in sympathy. She didn't get to do much fighting - any really - given her own encounter with the Kestia, but she's still feeling more than a little worn down from it.
"It's so quiet," Vivi continues, and Nami just hums, She runs a hand through her short orange hair while stretching a leg behind her with a groan, eyes flitting over when she sees Vivi's gaze tracking the motion. "I didn't want to wake anyone else, but I saw you weren't in your bed."
Nami can't help but concur. "Couldn't sleep," she agrees.
"Are you feeling okay?"
It's sweet, how concerned Vivi is for her. "I'm fine," Nami smiles softly. "Just….thinking."
Vivi hums. She hum and she rests her arms on the bench as she leans forward. "I can't believe I've only known you for a few days. That Sanji and Usopp tried to kill me and Mr. 9 less than a week ago. That Miss All Sunday was sitting here….are you sure you're okay?"
"Um….yes?"
"You're so red," Vivi notes, brow furrowing as she watches Nami. "I mentioned Miss All Sunday and you got all red."
"Oh."
Vivi continues on though, gaze hardening. "She didn't do anything to you, did she? You didn't mention seeing her on Drum Island."
"No, no she didn't," Nami confirms. "The only time I met her was right here. When she was sitting here and….and talking and….yeah."
"Oh…."
Nami suddenly feels like she's given away too much.
"You're….infatuated with her."
"I….No!" Nami can't help but argue. She feels like she has to argue. She feels like she has to because Miss All Sunday is a murderer who's killed people and threatened them, who threatened Vivi, and all of those things are awful but she's so pretty and she looked so good that despite all that, Nami wants to kiss her and…
"It's okay if you are," Vivi says, but it's cautious. Like she doesn't want to judge solely because she doesn't want to frighten Nami and scare her off. "She's awful but I suppose she's…rather pretty. Sanji certainly thought so."
"You wouldn't be mad at me if…."
"Of course I wouldn't."
Vivi's smile is all the comfort Nami needs.
"I don't know what it is," Nami gets out, like a gust of wind. "I've never thought girls were…I've always thought they were pretty but I haven't wanted to kiss them before but I was in bed and I just thought about Miss All Sunday and kissing her and I didn't know what that meant so I came out here but she was sitting right here and I….I don't know."
"Have you ever….thought about girls before?"
Nami just groans as she rests her head against the railing. "Not like this," she mutters. The hand that Vivi lays on her back is comforting. It's comforting but it's also….confusing. It's confusing, because Miss All Sunday blew the doors wide open, but now Vivi has her foot firmly wedged in the way to keep them from closing shut.
Nami's always thought that Vivi was pretty. She's known that since they were enemies, Vivi tied up while they were trying to escape being digested by Laboon. It was just that though. She thought Vivi was pretty. In the same way that she sees that Chopper is a reindeer and that Zoro's muscular, she sees that Vivi is pretty.
Now though….it's not just that Vivi is pretty. It's that Vivi is pretty.
Nami's so screwed. Her head feels scrambled, and it's Miss All Sunday's fault.
"It's okay, you know," Vivi reassures, and Nami breathes a sigh of relief. She knows it's okay, but it's still nice to have someone voice it. Especially someone like Vivi. "No one here will be mad at you if you like girls too. I know they won't."
"It's not that," Nami sighs. "It's just….confusing. And it's all because of her. Why is it because of her!?"
Vivi just shrugs. "She's awful but she's pretty. She's really pretty, and her voice is….um….you know. And she looks….she looked good, I suppose. If you were to ignore how awful she is, I…I understand why you would…like her like that."
Nami breathes a sigh of relief. It's nice to know that Vivi isn't mad at her. She knows what Miss All Sunday means to Vivi, so she'd understand if…if Vivi was mad at her. The fact that she isn't speaks the world of Vivi, Nami thinks.
She brings her gaze up to Vivi, and she's stunned, just for a second. She's stunned because Vivi is watching her with a concerned look and careful smile, blue hair blowing lightly in the wind.
The doors in Nami's mind are staying wide open.
"You should try to get some sleep," Vivi offers, and Nami just sighs. She's right. Of course she's right. "And if you need to….think about Miss All Sunday, try to be quiet. Please?"
What does she…oh
Oh
"I'm definitely not doing that," Nami somehow gets out, cheeks bright bright red. "Not with the guys around. I should try to….try to get some sleep though. Maybe after a little bit more fresh air."
Vivi smiles softly as she nods, giving Nami a quiet okay as she pats her on the back. "I'll see you in the morning."
Nami watches Vivi go. She watches her go, and can't help the way that her brain thinks that maybe, just maybe, she wants to kiss Vivi too. That Vivi's nice and kind and pretty and sweet and maybe she'd be really fun to kiss. That maybe Vivi could want to kiss Nami too. Just a little.
As Vivi goes, Nami can't help but think that Miss All Sunday kicked the doors wide open, but Nefertari Vivi is going to keep them from closing.
