‘FUCK YOU! ASSHAT! I HATE THIS!’ A lone voice cut through Umbra’s still mind. Glancing over his shoulder, he saw a very short red ball screaming at a wall, before punching it and violently whipping his head around and locking eyes with the tall blue umbrella-weilder.
‘WHAT’RE YOU LOOKIN AT, WISE GUY?’ He shouted, rushing across the road of traffic to stop inches from Umbra’s face.
‘Hello there. I can’t say we’ve met before.’ Umbra calmly stated, looking slightly up from where he was sitting. ‘My name is Umbra. Might I ask for yours?’
‘NO! NOW WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE??’ The red ball continued his screaming, still inches from Umbra’s face. Plip! A lone raindrop fell directly on the ball’s head, causing him to get somehow even redder and start an unintelligible rant at the skies.
‘Oh, I suppose it’s going to rain.’ Umbra commented, ignoring the his red companion in favor of standing up and opening his umbrella to shield the two. ‘If you’d like, you can join me in my meditation.’ The red ball opted not to reply, simply hesitating before sitting down cross-legged, and glaring out across the lake ahead of them.
‘You’re meant to close your eyes, y’know?’ Umbra chuckled, sitting down beside his companion.
‘OBVIOUSLY I KNOW THAT!’ He said, squeezing his eyes shut in retaliation. The two simply sat there, listening to the sounds of the rain and wind, and the waves on the shore. Umbra felt his own breathing slow small amount in tune with his mind quieting further, and heard his companion’s breathing lose its ragged edge and steady out. Peeking out, he saw his eyes shut more loosely, seemingly at peace.
‘I never did get your name.’ Umbra said.
‘My name?’ His friend said after a heartbeat. ‘It’s Barry. Barry Rad. You, uh, can call me B. Rad though.’ Another heartbeat passes, ‘Thanks, by the way. I feel a lot calmer.’
‘Of course, anytime!’ Umbra smiled. All of a sudden, a sudden gust of wind blew into their faces, tossing a flier into B. Rad’s face.
‘OH WELL NOW THAT DOES IT!’ He screamed, back into his usual fit of rage.
Umbra laughed, grabbing the flier before it got torn to shreds. ‘Hey, this says there’s a competition going on, and it’s not that far from here either! We should join, the flier says you can have a team of two!’
B. Rad paused a moment, closing his eyes and doing a quick deep breath, ‘That sounds great! I’d love to get some anger out in a fight or two! Let’s go!’
‘Then off we go!’ Replied Umbra, standing up and brushing the dirt off his long skirt, Before glancing down at his new partner and smiling as they set off.
