PROLOGUE

Long before time had a name, the First Spinjitzu Master created Ninjago using four elemental weapons. But when he passed, a dark presence sought to collect them all: Lord Garmadon. So I, Sensei Wu, his brother, sought to find four ninja to collect them first.

The First Spinjitzu Master foretold prophecies, events that would come centuries after his passing. Most have happened, few have yet to happen. Yet there are two that no one can ever discover the timing of, and both so different but so similar.

The first one in writing, was “Darkness will rise again, and from it, a son will be born to face it. He shall stand against it, and Ninjago will be saved.”

That’s the exciting one, a final battle, some big dramatic father versus son that’ll have all of Ninjago shaking. And to make it even better, it’s about your family! Or so everyone thinks. Your father, Lord Garmadon and your younger brother, Lloyd.

Annoying, right? Your brother has some grand prophecy tied to him, one your mother believed in so much she abandoned you to go study it for years and hasn’t come back.

Meanwhile, yours? It’s definitely something! “The first child will be the imbalance, born from the remainder of light and darkness. If both play their part, the first child will…”

And that’s it. It just ends right there. The first child will what? WHAT?!

No one has ever found the rest of it, because it isn’t even written. It quite literally just ends. If this prophecy is IN FACT about you, which is what Wu thinks, then no one knows what it means.

You’d think your mother would focus on that one. The one that actually needs answers, but she chose the clear one, or the one that’s actually written and is pretty explanatory.  Left you all behind for it, too.

Because apparently your destiny is just some sort of imbalance. Like, what does that even mean??? Who writes that about someone, like what in spinjitzu had your grandfather writing that you were an imbalance.

Uncle Wu insists it means something good. That it just hasn’t been understood yet, but you think the opposite, because it’s hard to believe that when no one ever chose you first, and it’s clear your brother has a bigger prophecy to deal with.

To explain a bit further, whenyou were born, your father wasn’t fully corrupted by the Great Devourer’s venom. He was at a perfect balance between light and dark, but seven years later when Lloyd was born, it all changed.

The darkness in your father was stronger when Lloyd was conceived, and it coursed through him faster, ready to take over anyday. Eventually, Lloyd was proof of what he was becoming, and it proved the prophecy right there and then. When Misako discovered it, she tried to warn Garmadon.

Garmadon took Lloyd instead, and said that if his son was destined to be the light to defeat him, he’d make sure Lloyd was meant for darkness and darkness only. So just like that, he left you, and not long after, Misako left as well.

Left you in the care of Uncle Wu like it was the easiest decision in the world. Not too long after, Garmadon became Lord Garmadon, fully corrupted by darkness, and because of that, he forgot he had a daughter in his light times.

Wu banished him to the Underworld in their final battle, and you didn’t know how to feel. You weren’t too young, only nine, but you chose not to remember everything because Garmadon now meant nothing to you. They all meant nothing to you.

Except Lloyd, you never saw him again. He didn’t even know you existed, he was just a baby when Garmadon took him.

Now you’re seventeen.

No mother, no brother and still no answers to your prophecy. It’s just you, Uncle/Sensei Wu…and your best friend, Cole Brookstone.

It’s kinda funny how you two met, given two completely different backgrounds. Ever since you were taken in by Wu, you’ve been training under his wing constantly. You were one of the youngest to master Spinjitzu, or maybe Wu was the youngest actually, given both of you mastered in your teenage years. You were a skilled fighter, no weapon needed (and because Wu just didn’t want to give you a weapon), though you dabbled in them, you were more skilled when it came to finding weak spots, sensitive points, and you always won a fight.

But somedays, especially when you were young, you wondered what it was all for. You weren’t an elemental master, or a master of anything, though Wu believed it would come when the time is right, or when the prophecy would begin.

And that was a very sensitive topic. The prophecy. Both yours and Lloyd’s that ruined your life. One day, you and Wu got into an argument about it… and you ran off. Silly, a fourteen year old running away like some sort of child.

And at that same time, another fourteen year old child running away from the performing arts school his dad enrolled him into. Though he was definitely ahead of you, given that he’d actually ran away months ago and was surviving on his own.

And that’s…basically how you two met. It was nice to have someone new in your life that wasn’t your uncle, or mystake, or anyone that knows of your true identity. This was an actual friend.

There were times he’d go his separate ways, continue exploring, switching place to place, but he always found his way back to you. He was strong with a habit of climbing mountains, so often, he’d visit the monastery for you, and Wu, happy you had a friend, would let you visit the city more often with him.

It became routine, he’d explore, become stronger, go around Ninjago, and he always visited you. It became routine for two years, to the point if he didn’t have a place to stay, the Monastery became home to him. One morning he was telling you about the tallest mountain in Ninjago that he wanted to climb today, and that was the day Wu saw the potential Cole had.

And also somehow climbed the mountain before he did.

Then, the search for the ninja began. Cole was first, then Zane, Jay, and the hothead Kai and his sister, Nya. And well, the training you went through paid off, because you became the Ninja’s trainer. They answered to you, respected you, and considered you a teacher.

But also a friend.

And no, they don’t know your family, and you don’t ever plan on telling them.

But the truth always comes out.
