Work Text:

"Stop pouting."

Those two words took Makarov out of his mind. He had been plotting and rethinking all the choices that had led him to this point. It was only eight hours until he and Konni planned to attack Verdansk to send a message to the people, but right now, that wasn't happening.

Right now, he was sitting in his boyfriend's very expensive apartment as the man worked on his equally expensive laptop.

"I wasn't pouting, Phillip." Makarov huffed, very much pouting his lips like a toddler who got denied a snack before lunch.

Phillip rolled his eyes at that before closing his laptop and getting up. He walked towards the window of his apartment overlooking Kastovia. Makarov didn't wish to sleep in an old run-down hotel, nor was Phillip willing to spend money on an insanely, stupidly expensive hotel.

Was this apartment stupidly expensive? Yes, but Phillip got the apartment years ago from his dad, so it was basically free.

Phillip heard Makarov get up and start muttering something about how stupid governments were or whatever. Phillip didn't really care for his lovers' rambles as it started to rain, and the other buildings still had the lights on, giving it a soft romantic feel. He loved the rain. It was weird given that he was from Texas.

"Hey, Vova.." Phillip called out softly, using a nickname for Makarov's first name. He literally looked up, Nicknames for Vladimir, so it wasn't a very special unique nickname, but apparently, in Russia, it was an affectionate nickname. So Phillip took that as a win.

"Yes, Dearest?" Makarov replied, looking up from where he had been angrily staring at the floor, but now he looked at Phillip with soft eyes filled with deep love.

Phillip chuckled at how fast Makarov's expressions and emotions could change. "Dance in the rain with me?"

Makarov's eyes narrowed at that. He hated the rain, the way his clothes stuck to his body like a second skin, and the way sometimes you literally couldn't see past it if it rained too much.

But, he knew his lover loved the rain as if it brought nothing but hope. Not like Makarov agreed, but he realised early on in the relationship that trying to argue with a rowdy Texas man who grew up looking out for himself didn't work out in the long run. So he said the only thing that wouldn't cause an argument.

"Sure, my love."

Phillip happily smiled, quickly going towards a speaker and turning it on. It was neither loud nor quiet. It was perfect enough to be able to hear it outside on their balcony.

The soft sounds of old romantic music filled the air, the first song was a country song about Japan or something. Makarov didn't really care. This wasn't his type of music, but he'd bear it for his lover.

The doors to the balcony slid open with force from Phillip that wasn't really needed but still ended up happening. The man held out his hand to Makarov, who, against his willingness, accepted it.

Makarov couldn't help the soft smile that spread across his face as he heard Phillips' soft chuckles and singing to the song that played. They took each other's hands, swaying side to side like in the old romantic movies.

Even as rain poured from the clouds, his clothing started to stick to him. Makarov couldn't help but not care like he would usually, instead focusing on Phillip and the man's carefree attitude.

"I love you, Vova." Phillip muttered suddenly.

"Love you as well, Phil..." Makarov muttered back so softly as he was scared someone other than Phillip would hear.
