Work Text:

Eddie and Gable are seated up in the control booth. The coitere had met in there tonight but the others have already slipped after their lasted mission.

Eddie leans across his seat, almost at Gable's shoulder and Gable looks over distractedly from his phone.

"You're so pretty, Gabe." Eddie smiles in that slow way he does and Gables feels tension enter his body as he puts his phone away.

"Don't do this Eddie." Eddie looks unphased by his curtness, stretching to flex the lines of his neck and shoulders.

"Why not? You don't have to worry about Katie, y'know. She doesn't mind."

Gable's sitting like he's at a PTA meeting for Sunday school and Eddie just wants to see that fluidity that's so inherent to Gable, so he leans closer, till his breathe once would of been hot against Gable's skin.

"Doesn't mind when you see other people or doesn't mind specifically with me?"

Eddie continues taking in the lines of Gable's neck, collarbone, there's some sort of essential oil mix that's been rubbed along there and it's an odd sensation of cold and burning when Eddie chooses to inhale. It's delicious.

"Eddie." Gable's voice is oddly strained and only when Eddie looks up does he see the faintest tremor.

"Does it matter?"

Eddie pushes closer, no longer leaning over but with his hands on either side of Gable's chair, kneeling in his own, looking down at Gable.

"Well, I think the fact that Katie didn't ask me what I all thought of this and probably didn't ask you matters."

Eddie's brow creases and he open his mouth to reply but Gable interrupts, "This is the line Eddie."

Gable stands and Eddie has to retract his hand as Gable walks towards the exit. "Gable, I-,"

"Don't!" Calls Gable as he walks away, "I'll put up with alot but if try any of your bullshit or those stupid fucking lines she fed you then I won't be here tomorrow or the night after that."

And then Gable is gone.

Eddie looks towards the sound boards where Katie rematerializes, stretching out with a deep groan from where she'd been still and unseen against the panels.

"Honestly? That went better than I expected." She says, tone observational. "He's playing true to character."

Eddie walks over to Katie and wraps his arms around her waist setting his head on her collarbone.

"He doesn't like it when I push."

Katie's face is inscrutable, "No he doesn't."

"But I still should?"

"For a little longer, like you're learning how best to talk to him."

"I am, in some ways."

Katie shrugs, "A teaspoon of truth helps the medicine go down."

Eddie laughs at that, and leans up to kiss Katie's jawbone.

"I care for him, Katie, you do to. So while I appreciate your wisdom, I wish it was easier for him. To accept."

Katie's hand runs over the back of Eddie's neck, "I know Eddie, I know."
