You're back...

Summary:

Y/N missed her roommate, Mezo, and decided to try to do something to otherwise occupy her mind; going on a date! She never makes it there, wimping out and coming home.

Notes:

(Another work moved over from my Tumblr! This is taking way longer than I thought it would, but I'm determined to get it all done today! Because I'm insane! Hope you enjoy! I remember there was a lot of directions I wanted to take this story in, so I apologize if it seems a little inconsistent or random at times.)

Work Text:

Y/N and Mezo lived together after graduating UA since they got along really well. He'd been away on some mission recently though, and it sucked. He hated it, and he was just working with these stupid idiots...and Y/N found it kinda unsettling to come home to an empty house.

Being bored and all, she decided to try going out on a date or something. She was currently walking around the house with nothing but a tank top and underwear on since she didn't expect anyone over.

Y/N jumped out of her skin when she heard the front door unlock and open. She turned around from the laundry basket she had been digging through, stepping towards the kitchen to grab a knife from the wooden knife block on the counter. She quickly relaxed however when she realized it was just her roommate. She actually kinda felt really relieved to see him again, but she wouldn't admit it.

"M'home..." Mezo called out, sounding exhausted as he removed his boots and took his hair down. He walked over to the couch and tiredly plopped down, not having the energy to do much else.

"You're back earlier than I thought you'd be." Y/N said, watching him. He looked so tired...and there was a slight crease in his hair where the hair tie had previously been. He probably hasn't taken it down in a few days...a habit he had while stressed.

The six armed hero sighed and tested his head against the couch cushions, staring up at the ceiling. He then sighed and closed his eyes, pulling his mask off as he replied to his roommate. "Mhm...damn idiots fucked shit up, so I had to fix things- like I always fucking do. I'm the only reason that the entire mission didn't go to shit." It was rare he cursed so much in one sentence.

He lifted his head up, opening his eyes. He noticed that your undergarments matched, and are fancier than what you normally wore, and raised an eyebrow. You usually don't wear bras around the house...and you looked oddly put together. "Going somewhere?" He asked, staring a few moments too long before catching himself.

He was tired, his brain wasn't working. Besides, you've both seen each other in several states of undress. This was fine...and if he was simply still a man and enjoyed the sight of you looking so pretty and comfortable, that didn't matter right now.

Y/N paused for a moment, realizing her roommate was still staring at her. She relaxed though as she noticed he was just tired and kinda zoned out. He never leered at her or made her uncomfy. He was such a gentleman, even if he did stare occasionally, but it was always in a manner most admiring and affectionate. It was part of the reason the two stayed so close as friends, even into adulthood. He genuinely respected her. "Ah...yeah. Date, I- uh, think?" She answered.

"You think?" Mezo repeated, leaning back against the couch as he respectfully averted his gaze. Now that was new; his introverted best friend willingly going out. It peaked his interest, as drowsy as he was.

"I don't know..." Y/N shrugged. "Just...been lonely." She admitted begrudgingly.

Mezo ran a hand through his white hair, a small sigh escaping his mouth. He was very much so looking forward to some decent sleep, you just tell by looking at him. He was silent for a few moments before replying, not quite processing what you said for a few seconds. "So you missed me?" He asked, some light teasing in his tone.

"As if..." She mumbled, turning around to dig through the laundry basket for something to wear...and so he couldn't see her face. She absolutely had missed him, but like hell would she admit that.

Mezo let out a small huff of laughter, then made a small hum as he moved to fully lay down on the couch. He'd probably crash here for the night instead of going to his room. Normally for something along the lines of not wanting to get his bed dirty with his hero uniform, but being too tired to shower and change clothes.

"Hey, Mez...? Shorts or skirt?" Y/N called out over her shoulder, feeling indecisive. She didn't go on dates often, could you blame her? She then realized he was already half asleep. She sighed and fell silent, getting dressed quietly without his input.

She slipped out the door quietly to go meet up with her date...only to come back to the apartment about fifteen minutes later. She wimped out, preferring to just spend the night at home.

Mezo stirred awake when he heard the door open, lazily lifting his head up. "You're back earlier than I thought you'd be..." He mumbled, repeating her words from earlier without even noticing. Deja-vu...

Y/N sighed and kicked her heels off, walking into the living room. She took off her jacket and set her purse down on the arm chair beside the couch. She didn't say a word, just plopped down next to Mezo.

He furrowed his eyebrows faintly, wondering why she was being so quiet. He scooted over, laying his head in her lap. He felt her relax a few moments later, which reassured him slightly. "Why'd you come back so soon?" He asked softly, his concern showing despite being half asleep.

"Wasn't feeling it...but now I got pretty for nothing." Y/N explained vaguely, leaning back against the cushions and resting a hand on his head.

"You're always pretty." Mezo muttered honestly without even thinking, his drowsiness making him less guarded with his words.

She froze for a moment at the unexpected compliment, then glanced down at him. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she replied. "...thank you."

The white haired man made a little hum in response, then laid his head back down atop his friend's thighs...falling back to sleep.

...yeah, she would absolutely rather this over being on some awkward date. She was happy he was home.
