Short and sweet. Hope you like it.

Chapter Text

Jungkook knew that Valentine’s Day was generally a day for those already in a relationship, but he had his eye on the pretty omega next door who was a single father.

They had been getting on well enough over the last six months and what had started as just a friendly neighbourly exchange had now grown into a huge big crush.

Jungkook had been getting to know Jimin slowly. Getting a bit under Jimin’s armor and learning more about the cautious man aided by his offerings of food and cookies.

Jimin’s boyfriend had broken up with him before they knew he was pregnant and they decided against getting back together. The ex-boyfriend was in the military and deployed in another country.  He was also married again with another child. However, he did faithfully send back money to support Kya and did his best to be part of his daughter’s life despite the distance.

Jungkook didn’t know if that was just Jimin not wanting to bash his child’s father or the truth yet, but at the very least - Jimin was not a struggling single parent.

He had his family and friends supporting him too. Jungkook had met a few of them when they came over to spend time or when he saw them bring Kya to and from school.

This is the time to start something new for the both of us, Jungkook’s alpha said to him seriously.

“I’m willing to give it a shot,” Jungkook agreed.

At the moment he was confirming that the bouquet of pink roses he ordered would be ready for pick up in a couple hours. He had a box of chocolates already and wanted to buy jewelry but he was worried about it being way too much for just a confession.

After settling his order, Jungkook felt nervous and was too distracted to go back to work. Luckily today was a light day at the office; Jungkook worked at the Civil Aviation Authority in the Quality Assurance section.

It was about as boring as it sounded but he made very good money and got travel perks as well. He had recently finished a report on the latest international amendment to the security protocol, and for the next week or so, he was in waiting mode until it was reviewed by the legal department.

He picked up his phone and scrolled social media idly trying to calm his nerves down a bit.

So when are we gonna ask out that hot alpha? Jimin's omega asked him what felt like the tenth time in the last week.

“I would prefer him to signal interest so we don’t look desperate,” Jimin countered.

I don’t know about you but I am desperate. We’ve been single for like five years since Kya was born and I don’t want to go to my grave with Kae’s knot being the last one I saw!

“You didn't even let him knot you…” Jimin reminded him.

And wasn’t I right?! Hmph.

Jimin sighed and rubbed his temple trying to ease the building pressure. It’s not like he didn’t share his omega’s interest in Jungkook - he was right there along with his wolf - but he also had the feeling that Jungkook was definitely interested and had been slowly cooking him like a frog in water.

The man was well-off, well-mannered and very attractive. He was a great cook and took care of himself. To be honest whatever flaws he had, and Jimin was sure there were some, were either really well hidden or more gray flags than red ones.

Jimin did feel a bit like they were ill-matched - he didn’t make as much as Jungkook and he had a slightly sickly constitution no matter how much he worked out. Then, he already had a daughter who he was proud of, happy for and didn’t feel a need to apologize for either, but it was a factor against him that couldn’t be ignored. Even if Jungkook didn’t mind, who knows what his family would think.

Jimin would not hesitate to tell them off if they discriminated against his daughter but how would Jungkook react?

You’re over-thinking it. Right now I just want to be wined, dined, and knotted in that order, Jimin's omega protested, his family is the least of my concern.

Jimin didn’t feel like arguing with his feisty wolf so he refrained from pointing out the insanity of that statement.

There was a slight knock on the side of Jimin’s cubicle and he looked up to see that it was his direct manager Namjoon. A gentle giant type of alpha that leads with kindness and grace.

“Hey Jimin, isn’t it about time for you to go get the kiddo?” Namjoon asked him.

Jimin was startled and checked the time.

“Oh you’re right, thanks for reminding me. I was a bit distracted.”

“Ah, that’s fine. Your last presentation was very good, don’t stress so much about this one,” Namjoon encouraged him.

Jimin was a junior marketing manager at a publicity firm. It wasn’t the career he had planned,he had entered the company as a receptionist actually, but worked his way up to his current position  after getting a marketing degree at community college.

Jimin hastily put his things together, logging out of his work laptop and stowing it away in his bag. To make up for the two hours he left early on Wednesday and Friday to take his daughter to taekwondo class, he would work at home most nights.

Jimin said goodbye to his co-workers in his department before heading down to his jeep. The drive to the pre-school was only about ten minutes so he would still get there on time although he had zoned out a bit.

Jimin had been home for about an hour and Jungkook figured that was enough time for him to get himself and his daughter settled so he picked up the flowers and chocolate and went out.

His heart was constricted in his chest as he got near to Jimin’s front door. Their townhouses were side by side, separated by his large garden and a red brick wall. While he owned his entire townhouse, Jimin was just renting the lower half. The top half was empty at the moment.

At least if he failed there wouldn’t be anyone to watch his demise.

After taking a steadying breath and putting a brave smile on his face, Jungkook knocked on the door.

"I'll be there in a minute!” Jungkook heard from inside and that sent his heart into overdrive.

Calm down now, you don’t want him to see how nervous you are.

“You’re making me more nervous…”

Tch. Buck up!

They started to bicker but it was brought to an end abruptly when Jimin opened the door. Kya was next to him hanging on to Jimin’s leg and both  blonds had the same shocked expression for a moment.

“Flowers!” Kya exclaimed, “Are they for Daddy?”

Jimin’s face started to go red and he quickly shooed Kya off to play.

“Go on to your room and play sweetie, I’ll come get you to start bed time soon,” Jimin told her.

“Not soon!” Kya demanded as she took off, her pony-tails bouncing behind her as she went.

Jimin watched her go with a shake of his head but when he looked back at Jungkook he seemed shy again.

“Well, um.. Come inside Jungkook,” Jimin encouraged him.

Jungkook came in and handed Jimin the bouquet and chocolates.

“Will you be my valentine?” he asked, he had rehearsed it a few times but it still sounded a bit strange when he said it now.

“Well.. um.. Take off your boots and.. I’ll take those.. Thank you,” Jimin said to him, “And yea.. I would love that.”

Jimin’s added admission made Jungkook’s heart soar. His wolf happily growling in his head and his overall mood switched from just nervousness to also being filled with excitement.

By the time Jungkook had kicked off his boots and hung up his coat, Jimin had the flowers in a vase and the chocolates put up on the fridge out of Kya’s line of sight.

“Join me in the living room, let's chat a bit,” Jimin invited him.

Jungkook trailed happily behind Jimin, drinking in the sight of the slightly shorter and much slimmer man. Jimin was dressed in a pair of shorts and tee, looking right at home but no less alluring then when he was dressed up for work or play.

The whole house had a subtle fragrance that was a lot like Jimin’s candy scent, but mixed with a bit of spice.

The two of them sat side by side on the couch and Jimin looked shy again but also happy.

“I’m glad you asked, I’ve liked you for a while but you could probably tell. My omega hasn’t been the most subtle with the scent warfare sometimes,” Jimin admitted.

Jungkook grinned, “I noticed a bit but still, I was a nervous wreck all day. I’m so happy you agreed to go on a date.”

“Do you want to go on the day of or a date close by?” Jimin asked, picking up his phone and opening the calendar.

“I would like to do it on the actual day for lunch or dinner, if you can get someone to watch Kya,” Jungkook said to him, “But if you can’t we can go whenever you’re free. It’s not about the day anyway, I am just using it as an extra reason to push me to finally ask you out.”

Jimin gave him a small and adorable smile.

“I like you a lot Jungkook,” Jimin admitted, “So, I’m really glad you asked…”

“Were you shy about the thought of asking me first?" Jungkook inquired.

Jimin blushed a bright pink and avoided Jungkook’s gaze.

“A bit… not to fulfill the subtype stereotypes but, I guess I felt it would be better if you asked me,” Jimin admitted, “But it’s really more that you’re a really amazing guy and I have special circumstances.”

Jungkook frowned slightly.

“By special do you mean Kya?” Jungkook asked bluntly.

Jimin nodded and didn’t deny it saying, “Yes, her. I’m not ashamed of her but reality is cruel.”

“The part of my family that counts won’t mind, I already have been not shutting up about you and Kya enough that they tease me about having a crush all the time,” Jungkook told him seriously, “Not going to pretend some of my extended family aren’t assholes, but trust and believe I will floor them before I let them hurt you or Kya.”

Jimin’s eyes were filled with a very vulnerable and hopeful light. Jungkook felt the weight of the situation in a new way.

He took Jimin’s hand in his.

“I can’t promise you how the future will pan out, but I don’t think you’re any less awesome because you are a father. You are someone I like. All parts of you are amazing to me, and I am sure that you might have some quirks that will drive me insane but all baddies are a little annoying in some areas right?”

Jimin burst out laughing, “You’re calling me a baddie? I’m thirty-two with a five year old Jungkook.”

“And you’re a baddie, hello? Have you not looked at yourself in the mirror lately?” Jungkook asked incredulously.

Jimin gave him a little smile and Jungkook smirked, “See, you know! You just don’t want to claim it cause you’re self-conscious. That’s fine, you’ll get used to me saying it and let yourself bask in it more.”

Jimin laughed again and patted Jungkook’s hand with his own.

“I’m actually really excited about dating you, what do you have in mind?”

It was Jungkook’s turn to blush.

“Would you believe me if I said I hadn’t planned anything yet?”

Jimin snorted, “Yes, I would believe you, you were too caught up in the confession part and honestly that is super cute.”

“I’m not that cute,” Jungkook weakly protested.

Jimin looked skeptical, “The same way you want me to accept that I’m a baddie, you need to accept that you are bloody adorable Jungkook.”

Jungkook sighed, “I have tattoos, piercings, a six pack and a Harley and the best you can muster for me is cute?”

“You're sexy as sin, don’t think otherwise,” Jimin admitted, “But you’re also cute as hell.”

Jungkook clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes but he wasn’t really feeling as annoyed as he pretended.

He and his wolf were on cloud nine over being accepted and even being called cute couldn’t change that. If it was Jimin calling him cute, he honestly didn’t mind…
