Work Text:
As the warm sunny days happily spent begin to dissipate, fall approaches with its cold, crisp air and breathtaking leaves that readily change from earthy greens to a plethora of burgundy reds and burnt oranges. Taehyung decides that it's his favorite time of the year, but not because of the well known fact that he loves Halloween. Fall’s chilly, rainy weather leave for the warmth of electric heaters and cuddles on the couch, whereas the select few nicer days result in an attempt to rake the leaves that continue to pile up in their tiny, private yard. Regardless of the amount of times Jungkook rakes to get their yard perfect, with Taehyung simply watching and laughing at him from afar in his own smaller pile of leaves, their yard still manages to be coated in more an hour later. Taehyung honestly doesn’t mind the colorful leaves scattered around the yard, but Jungkook complains every time more leaves start to fall, stating that “The neighbors will obviously think were untidy and don’t care about our yard.” Taehyung tries not to roll his eyes too hard in response.
Though the more the days pass, the closer it gets to the holiday Taehyung has been waiting for since the end of last year. He’s always had a soft spot for Halloween, from the numerous times he’s dressed as his favorites from Naruto as a kid to the amount of candy he secretly stuffed into his mouth behind his mother’s back when she’d strictly tell him only a couple of pieces. Taehyung still has yet to break the habit, Jungkook persistently having to hide the large bowl of candy from him every year because of his lack of self control. It's really not fair, especially when he has an incredibly stubborn sweet tooth. (Jungkook doesn’t know he’s has already found the bucket of candy under their bed the day after he’d hid it)
Although candy is one of the main reasons Taehyung likes Halloween, he’s found that he enjoys decorating and going all out for each holiday. He may or may not be proud of the amount of money he’s spent purely on decorations, but he can’t seem to stop buying them, especially when they look so cute on display in stores or online.
“Jungkook, come look at these cute fake skeletons, they even have cute top hats and bowties! You know, now that I think about it, they would look perfect on our deck, don't you think?”
“Tae, babe, we already have like three of those at home, we don't need anymore.”
“But it’s wearing a bowtie Jungkook, we don’t have any that are wearing a bowtie. We seriously can’t just leave them here and let them waste away on a shelf, be logical please.”
Silence.
“Babe, they’re literally inanimate objects that are not even living. If anyone’s being logical here it’s me.”
“Ugh, why do you have to be like this just because you don’t understand decor? You know what, fine, I’m buying them myself then.”
______
It’s the first friday of October when Taehyung starts to decorate both the inside and outside of their home, hanging up green glowing lights, pumpkins and fake skeletons outside their front porch. Jungkook’s at work, so Taehyung decides that now is the best time to decorate, since whenever Jungkook does decorate with him, they just end up getting into an argument over what should go where. (Taehyung knows he’s the better decorator, since he’s majored in interior design, but he lets Jungkook put the decorations where he wants, only to change them to his own desired destination the next day. It all works out because 1. he gets kisses from Jungkook after they’re done and 2. the younger never seems to notice.)
He moves on to decorating the inside, sticking black cut outs of bats to the dark red walls of their living room, along with aligning fall colored bulbed lights and leaves on top of their fake fireplace. In Taehyung's opinion, the fall aspect always looks the best in their living room, the yellow, reds, and oranges complementing the deep mahogany hardwood flooring, black sofa and gold lined curtains.
The last of Taehyung’s decorating exceeds to the front doorway, where he plans to hang white stretchy cotton resembling a spider's web, attaching two large, black spiders to hang overhead so that it is the first thing seen when walked through the door. When he’s finished, Taehyung is pretty proud of his work and admits that the scene looks incredibly realistic and sort of freighting, considering his own fear of spiders.
While he waits for Jungkook to come home from work, already finished with all of the decorating, Taehyung decides to make a pot of tea, pouring a cup for himself and leaving enough incase the other wants some. He curls up on the couch with a blanket, still in the checkered flannel pj pants and navy blue long sleeve shirt he wore to bed last night, sporting the same messy blonde hair that he was too lazy to fix this morning when he got up with Jungkook. He flicks on the TV, absentmindedly watching some reality tv show for only about ten minutes or so until he hears Jungkook’s voice outside the front door.
He’s humming; the smooth, velvety voice carrying through the door almost clearly and Taehyung can’t help but smile, jumping up excitedly from the couch and wrapping the blanket around himself to go greet Jungkook, like always.
“Jungkookie,” Taehyung singsongs through the door, the slight hitch in his voice signalling his eagerness to see the other.
He stands a few inches from the spiders that hang from the ceiling, eyeing them for a split second and then the door, now realizing the fact that he had completely forgot to mention to Jungkook that he’d be decorating today and that he was about to walk into a stringy cobweb with two decently sized spiders in the mix.
And really, he only now remembers how terrified Jungkook is of spiders, much like himself. The memories come flooding back to him, all the times they’d bicker about who was going to kill the spiders lurking in the corners of their house.
Okay so maybe he should have warned him.
Taehyung chews his lip as the door opens, Jungkook’s head still downwards, on the verge of saying something about the decorations on their porch until he steps inside, finally glancing up and coming face to face with the two large spiders hanging from the doorway.
At that moment, Taehyung wishes he had his phone out because Jungkook’s eyes comically widden, about two times their normal size, immediately dropping his work bag on the ground and grabbing at his heart, speedily stepping back outside while nearly tripping over the step in fear of the fake spiders jumping out at him.
The blonde doubles over in laughter once Jungkook begins to realize that both the spiders and cobweb are fake, outwardly cursing and pointing at the decorations.
“Are you fucking kidding me, Tae?” Jungkook raises his voice, making Taehyung laugh even harder.
“It's not funny, I could have died from a heart attack and you’re laughing about it,” The younger complains, narrowing his eyes at the blonde and stepping back inside. “What if I did this to you? You wouldn't talk to me for like a week straight.”
Taehyung tries to muffle his laughter with his sleeve, eyes still glittering with mirth.
“I swear it wasn’t on purpose! I forgot to tell you I was going to decorate and,” Taehyung gestures to the spiderweb and the rest of the decorations scattered around the house. “It just kind of happened. But you’re wrong, I wouldn’t talk to you for two weeks.”
Jungkook huffs out a sigh, still obviously annoyed, but opens his arms out for Taehyung instead.
Taehyung hesitates, lowering his sleeve from his mouth to reveal the front of his teeth gnawing on his lower lip, a nervous habit, before side eyeing the younger.
“You’re not mad or anything?”
“Why would I be mad over you laughing at me being attacked by two huge fake ass spiders that look real, especially when you and I both fucking hate them? Of course I’m not mad,” Jungkook promises emptily, purposely avoiding the cobwebs and spiders as he takes a few steps towards Taehyung. The blonde stares at him, confused, before registering the hidden sarcasm behind the other’s words, escaping the arms that are circling him, about to capture him at the last second. He swiftly dodges the attack, giggling and holding his hands out in front of himself in defense, backing away as Jungkook continues to move towards him, closely resembling a hungry animal nearing in on its prey.
“I just want to give you a hug babe,” Jungkook assures, his voice soft and sweet, completely opposite of his intended actions. Taehyung shakes his head, ducking under Jungkook's arms when they attempt to capture him again.
“Guk, don’t do this,” Taehyung pleads, feeling the back of his legs suddenly hit the side of their couch, trapping him. He knows what’s going to happen next and would preferably not like it to be tickling.
Now it’s Jungkook’s turn to laugh, amused at the blonde’s half-hearted defense. He swiftly wraps his arms around Taehyung’s torso when the blonde doesn’t protest, bringing him closer. His mouth finds its way to Taehyung's neck, pulling aside his nightshirt and pressing a variety of kisses down his neck and collarbone, leaving the butterflies in Taehyung’s stomach fluttering violently.
“You’re adorable, you know that?” Jungkook hushes into his skin, lips tracing the expanse of his neck. Taehyung hums a reply, about ready to grab the younger’s face to smash their lips together in both need and want, but finds himself suddenly jerking out of Jungkook’s grasp when the fingers around his torso start digging into his sides. Forced laughter bubbles up out of Taehyung’s chest while Jungkook holds him in place against the side of the couch, tickling him mercilessly.
“Jungkook!” Taehyung’s voice comes out breathy and high pitched in between laughs, hands struggling to pry away the fingers violating his sides and stomach. Jungkook doesn’t stop though, only taking one hand away to hold down both of Taehyung’s hands. The younger smirks as Taehyung continues to try and squirm out of his grasp, stomach tensing and eyes welling from the endless laughter.
“Say you love me and I’ll stop.”
Taehyung tries to glare up at him through the tears, but Jungkook just coos at his lousy attempt at looking mad while laughing.
“Im-” Laughter. “”Not-” More laughter. “Saying it.”
Jungkook tsks, digging his fingers deeper, abusing Taehyung’s sides even more.
Taehyung squeaks, thrashing his body against the sofa unwillingly, unsuccessfully trying to find a way out of Jungkook’s trap. It’s no use and Taehyung can feel his insides screaming at him to comply to Jungkook’s request.
He keeps his lips shut though, having to put a tiring, almost painful amount of pressure on them to keep from spilling out the words.
Jungkook raises his eyebrows at him, impressed by Taehyung’s determination, but before he can comment, the blonde rushes his words, flowing from the stream that is his mouth.
“Iloveyouiloveyouilove-”
The tickling soon stops and Taehyung thanks god for not dying, his heart and stomach still pulsing rapidly. He feels the soft press of lips against his cheek and looks up to see Jungkook staring down at him, eyes warm with affection.
“I’m not mad anymore,” Jungkook states, the half smile on his lips taunting. Taehyung scowls at him, but brings his free hands up to cup Jungkook's face, reaching up to plant a fat, wet kiss on his lips.
“I lied when I said that I love you,” Taehyung mutters and Jungkook rolls his eyes at the obviously false statement. Taehyung places another kiss alongside Jungkook's jaw before backing away and looking him straight in the eye, voice unwavering.
“But seriously, if you try to tickle me ever again I will punch you in the face.”
Jungkook just smiles, eyes crinkling at the empty threat.
“I love you too.”
