Chapter Text
Talia Nyx was a good soldier, a by the book kind of wolf, a true pack leader. By all accounts she was one of the best. Numerous missions completed, minimal casualties, zero lost males. She ran her squad of 4 tight. No mistakes, no lollygagging when on the job, no nonsense. Her girls were her family, and while they may not have priority choice for getting assigned a husband, she would be damned if she wasn’t going to see all her girls hitched eventually.
So she was a little bit confused when the higher ups of APEX called her and her squad in to be debriefed about a ‘uniquely problematic asset’. Her girls were bitching endlessly about it, as it was their week off after returning from a long mission, and they were eager to hit their favorite holes in the walls throughout the city. Hell, Talia herself was a little bit bitter about the whole thing, but she would never say that out loud.
“This whole things is fucking bullshit! We just got back from busting that trafficking ring, and Director Thunder Cunt has us coming staring back to HQ to pick up some mystery ‘asset’, fucking bitch just wants to jam our clams!” Screams Mindy, a very boisterous arctic fox, the team’s resident scout, and over all loudest of all the bitter voices of the group. Mindy is quick, quiet, and good at disrupting the peace, which when on mission, is very useful to sow chaos and panic in the enemy. However when outside a mission…it can be a little difficult to deal with, when she gets the rest of the squad riled up. And while her’s is the loudest voice, it certainly isn’t the only voice.
“Da. Whole thing reeks of desperation and corporate secrecy. Makes me want to deck nearest low runner.” Ivonica agrees, her thick Russian accent cutting through the noise, even though she isn’t being particularly loud on purpose. Ivonica being a Siberian tiger, is the muscle of the group, easily the tallest and strongest of the whole squad, built like a wall, and a woman who would rather use her fists, claws, and jaws to solve problems rather than any other means. A true blunt instrument, but every tool has its place in Talia’s squad, and Ivonica is definitely the best ‘hammer’ Talia has ever met.
“Personally, I think the Director just loves to make us move at her own beck and call, flex her power and all that…it’s hot when it’s not keeping us from enjoying ourselves.” Piper says nonchalantly, to which Mindy and Ivonica raise their eyebrows at her subtle comments about finding their boss attractive, before they go back to complaining. Piper, being a pit viper, is easily the most unique of the group, as rather than having legs, she simply has a long tail for a lower body, and is the only non-mammal on Talia’s squad. But Piper is still easily Talia’s most effective weapon, a true sniper, and assassin, if Mindy is a flash bang, and Ivonica is a hammer, then Piper is a gun, best used in small doses, as she can get a little…frenzied when she lets loose too much too often. Also Piper, definitely isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
As the group nears the intake room, Talia makes efforts to gather her girl’s attention, quote them down before the director arrives. “Alright, Alright girls. I know you are bitter, but the director called us in for a reason…now I know we all have things we WANT to be doing, but right now we treat this like we are in mission…and i promise afterwards we can hit up a club or something…” Talia says with a deep sigh, deciding to pull out a trump card, that is met with cheers, and quickly silence, as the telltale sound of heels clicking along marble floor singles the approach of the Director of APEX
The two double doors on the other side of the room swing open, and escorted by her entourage of various guards of various species, is Director Venus Cox, a tall skinny thing, but that is a given, as the director is a secretary bird, her very nature is that of calm, collected control and power. The director’s gaze sweeps the room, as she takes note of all four members of the squad before signaling for everyone to be seated.
Director Cox sighs deeply as she takes a seat in the large char in the front of the room, as she pulls out a file, simultaneously motioning for one of the escorts to hand out four more files, each the same color as the file in the Director’s hands, as the Director then slowly looks up from the file at the four women. “I know that me calling you here after a long and stressful operation is less than ideal…but the state is out of options about a certain…asset. And so they are dumping it on us…and to be completely honest…Alpha Squad is the only squad I can trust to even be close to capable enough to deal with this particular asset…as everyone who has tried to utilize or control this asset…has ended up dead.”
The bluntness of the director’s words quell any and all complaints from Talia’s girls, and Talia herself is rendered speechless…the director has never once spoken to them like this…as if this is truly a matter of such a high level of seriousness that she is willing to drop all acts of superiority and arrogance. As if the Director herself is afraid of this ‘asset’.
“The asset is categorized…as a human…but do not not let that title fool you…by all means and accounts, this man is a monster. Every Anthro he was assigned to has ended up dead, and any attempts to euthanize him have failed, his immune system breaks down any chemical we try, his nervous system passively absorbs excess electricity…and all attempts to kill him via firing squad have failed…to call him human is an insult to humanity. He’s the devil.” The director’s words are filled with malice and hate, far more personal than she should be acting. Talia can see that this is more than just a job for the Director. But before she can raise any questions, the double doors that the director entered through, are opened…and a human male is wheeled in.
All of Alpha Squad is struck silent…because the human is wheeled in on a hand-truck, strapped down by several sets of chains, leather straps, and manacles. He is set up in a straight jacket, and most shockingly, he is fitted with a muzzle. Talia has never even seen a single anthro so bound and restrained, let alone a human. The sheer level of security says everything. In a room with the four top operatives of APEX, The Director’s own security detail, and all of the other security measures at APEX’s disposal, this male is still considered by the state, to be the most dangerous thing in the room.
“Ladies…Meet Nova Void…the only male deemed truly unassignable…and the killer of over 100 Anthro women…as well as your newest teammate. And no, you do not have a choice in the matter.”
It is obvious that both Talia, and her girls, are not happy about this situation, and they are not are not quiet about it at all. But if any of them were paying any attention to the male, they would have seen a malicious, and very eager grin on his face through the muzzle. A smile filled with razor sharp teeth one would normally see on an Anthro.
