Work Text:

Husk never comes back late.

That was the first red flag. It didn't help that Angel knew that he was out on a job for Alastor, which just served to make him even more nervous.

It's half past ten PM when Angel can't sit with it anymore, standing up and throwing on a sweater, making sure Fat Nuggets is in his bed before putting his boots on and rushing out his hotel room, closing the door behind him.

Husk always shows up for Angel every night, no matter how Angel responds to it. It was time for Angel to be there for him, whatever was happening.

Most people in the hotel were asleep right now, so it was quiet, only the noise of Angel's boots clicking against the floor echoing through the halls.

Angel drafts out a plan in his head. He'd look in some alleyways first, just in case, and then he'd check the casino..

As soon as Angel steps out the back door, he nearly trips over something in the dark. He yelps and jumps back a step in surprise when he realizes it's Husk, collapsed on the cold concrete with his face down into it, one of his wings bent unnaturally.

Angel quickly kneels down to him, carefully rolling him over, being careful with his clearly injured wing.

The pained grunt that Husk lets out both relieves and concerns Angel, but at least he's alive and seemingly conscious.

"Jesus christ, you scared me." Angel says, pressing one hand to his chest as another two examine Husk's wing.

Husk immediately reacts with a pained hiss, curling in on himself.

Angel doesn't know what it's like to have wings, but he can imagine it's incredibly painful the way it's bet. Angel is half-sure it's broken, but he's not a expert on wings. But Husk has never hissed at him, so he probably has to be in a lot of pain to do it.

"It's just me, kitty, I promise.." Angel murmurs, keeping Husk's limp wing as steady as he can as he lifts him into his arms.

Angel doesn't know if anything he's saying right now is really getting through to Husk, as the man in his arms is still stiff and tense, but it's enough to fill the silence, which is enough to keep Angel's thoughts from getting away from him.

Husk is quiet as Angel carries him inside and up the stairs, with the exception of his heavy breathing as he presses his face into Angel's shoulder.

Usually, Husk is the one taking care of Angel. This role reversal is strange, but Angel knows that eventually Husk was going to have to be vulnerable in one way or the other, even if Angel didn't expect it to be physically.

Angel takes him into his bedroom, Nuggets snorting from his bed on the floor as Angel got Husk as comfortable as possible, making sure that there wasn't any pressure on Husk's injured wing.

Husk was barely conscious, but he still tries to keep his eyes open as he watches Angel. Angel tries his best to find something to split the wing for now. While he may not know much about wings, he knows a few things about broken bones, and he's half-sure you're supposed to split them, at least until you can get medical attention.

Angel doesn't really keep anything of that length on hand, but eventually he figures something out and then splits the wing. In the morning, Angel would see if Vaggie could help, or sooner if the swelling got worse or Husk was in more pain, but for now Angel was letting Husk rest.
