Work Text:
It was quiet as Len sat still at the kitchen counter, he slowly picked at leftovers eyeing the clock as it ticked further into the night.
He glanced over to the door knowing in the other room a small angel lay asleep on top of the couch, snoring.
Len tapped at the table in time with pit’s snores, he breathes in. Len taps 4 times. Out. 3 times. In. 4 times. And out. 3 times
Tap, tap, tap…his mind wondered.
What was pit dreaming about? his home maybe? Food seemed like another possiblity, pizza, toast, stuffing, ice cream…. Hmm now Len wanted some, much better then these stale leftovers.
Back to tapping, in. 4 times. Out. 3 times. In. 4 times. Out…out..out…the door clicked open and Len jolted his head around to see pit standing groggily at the door frame, rubbing his eyes as they adjusted to the dimly lit room.
“Augh! Pit, your awake!”
Len yipped.
“Hmmm…yea… did you hear that?”
Pits voice was dry.
“Hear what?”
Len lowers his voice.
“That tapping”
Pit replied.
If he weren't a robot Len would be hot with embarrassment. Dammit dammit dammit, he woke him up, pit must have been exhausted and he woke him up!
“OH um maybe it could have been the clock? Do you know what a clock is?”
Pit stood still lowering his hands from his eyes which squinted with confusion
“I know what a clock is, Len.”
“Uh-YEAH OF COURSE, of course you know what a clock is,I just thought that uhhh the place you're from sounded…clockless. I uh uuhmm”
It fell quiet for a moment before len continued.
“I'm sorry… I woke you up. You must have been so tired from yesterday and-”
“It's fine”
Pit replied.
Pit wondered over to the table as Len stared quietly at him.
“...fine?”
Len asked.
“Yeah, I just said that, it's fine”
Pit said as he eyed len’s plate.
“You must be tired though”
Len looked away from pit to hide his guilty expression.
“Nah, I've had less sleep than this, like this one time when there was aliens, I hade to wake up really, really early and there was this guy named phrryon… he…was… uh cool”
Pit trailed off, his face twisting to match len's.
With a large inhale pit gathered his thoughts and decided to turn the conversation somewhere else. hmm, ah that was it!
Pit pointed to the half eaten plate Infront of Len.
“What you havin’?”
Len paused before chuckling softly.
“You can have it, its just some pasta, it's stale though”
“What kind?”
Pit asked after already taking len’s fork from him.
“Fettuccine”
Len's guilty look turned to a grin as he watched pit stuff his face, getting tiny bits of pasta on his cheeks.
“Itshh rwelly good”
pit spoke with his mouth full.
“It's stale, yknow”
Len replied.
“You said that already”
pit retorted cheerily before putting another bite in his mouth.
“You have clocks? How?”
Len questioned.
Pit gave him another confused look.
“why wouldn't we?”
“I mean this ‘skyworld’ sounds very… well, ancient.”
“For a huma-err-robot it would be huh? I guess the heavens are just ahead of you guys. We’ve got all sorts of tech”
Pit paused for a moment before tipping his chair back and resting his arms behind his head.
“nothing like you though”
He smiled looking over into len's eyes.
“Oh just wait until humans figure out microwaves! Your gonna love it”
Len snorted.
“We have those already”
“Oh…but they are cool right?”
“yes”
…
…
…
Len yawned as he stretched his arms.
“i guess I'm more tired than I thought”
“Right!”
Pit jumped out of his seat almost sending the poor chair flying.
“Bedtime!”
Len flipped the switch off and pit began to walk back over to the couch he had been sleeping on.
“Goodnight Len”
Pit looked over his shoulder waiting for Len to return his words.
“Hmm?”
Len spoke up after pondering for a moment.
“The couch doesn't seem so comfortable”
Pit looked over to Said couch, it was covered in holes and stitches and holes were the stitches had failed to keep together, bits of wood poking out.
Pit gritted his teeth but spoke anyway.
“It's..fiiiiiine”
he would fall asleep on it again if he had to. Len had gone through the trouble of cleaning it to his best ability just this morning. he felt bad but, couldn't help but shiver at the thought of it poking his skin and tugging at his feathers again.
It wouldn't take a lie detector for Len to see through pits lies.
“You can sleep in my bed, I'll take the couch”
Len wasn't keen on the thought of sleeping on it either, but pit was his guest and it was his couch, at least that's what he liked to think as the only kagamine who tended to it's wounds.
Pit wanted to say yes but the guilt of letting a friend as generous as Len who let him stay at his home sleep on such a awfull thing was too much.
“No it's fine”
Len gently took pits arm.
“No really you can sleep on my bed it's fine with me”
Pit declined once again.
“Ill sleep on the couch, even If it has weird sticky spots”
he grimaced as he spoke
“Sleep on my bed.”
Len wasn't sure how else to persuade pit so his request became demands.
“It's cozy”
he added trying to sound more polite.
Pit scrambled for a solution he didn't want to be stuck here all night and he bet Len didn't either.
“Uhhh why don't we sleep together on the same uhhh…floor”
Len raised an eyebrow.
“The floor?”
He repeated back at pit, his sarcasm barely hidden like it usually was.
Pit internally face palmed. The floor was for running and fighting and finding sweet little treats, but not sleeping on, that's ridiculous.
Len put his hand on his chin.
“Together doesn't sound so bad”
“On the couch?”
Pit questioned.
“My bed”
Len answered.
“Really!?”
Pit couldn't retain his relief, or excitement, he hadn't slept on a comfy bed in weeks.
“I don't want it scraping my skin so you have to take all the jewelry off, and the belt, and the tunic, and the sandals, and I have a spare pair of pajamas so you should just wear that.”
Len added sweetly but not shortly.
Pit nodded not taking any of it in.
Pit looked all over lens room as he entered it. the walls were a pale yellow decorated with yellow posters from all sorts of bands he didn't recognise. Len pointed to his yellow cupboard and opened it revealing 10 perfect copies of Len's usual school boy inspired outfit. He pushed them out the way and dug through scraps of fabric before pulling out an old crinkled pajama set passing them to pit.
Pit took them and held them close to his face taking a look at the small banana split patterns
printed on. Len left the room signaling at him to get changed.
Pit had never worn human made clothes before he didn't remember wearing anything but his tunic, sandals and the jewellery Palutena had gifted him after saving her all those years back.
The trousers slipped on with ease but the top was another story. He struggled trying to worm his wings under it. maybe if he turned this way or that way, but It didn't work.
Len rested his back on the door waiting for pit to call him back in, he fidgeted with a loose string on his shirt. He watched as the clock turned from 5 past, to 10 past, to 15 past, this was taking too long. He turned and knocked on the door.
“Are you ok in there?”
He asked.
“I'm stuck!”
Pit complained.
“I'm coming in then, is that ok?”
Len for some reason felt the need to ask.
“Yes! I need help”
Pit said as Len opened the door to find him sprawled on the floor with his wings in an awkward position.
“Oh! I…right you would need holes to get your wings through wouldn't you…ahhh”
Len trailed off not sure how to act.
“Maybe I could get a pair of scissors…”
He pondered.
His thoughts were interrupted by a loud rip
Pit had torn through the fabric.
“Or that…”
Pit stretched his wings as he pushed himself up on to his feet failing to notice len's displeased expression.
“Guess I didn't need help after all!”
He skipped over to Len.
“I guess not…”
Len siged internally and moved his attention back to bedtime.
“Come on…”
Len said as he turned the blanket over and sat down, patting at the side he wanted pit to lay on. Pit eagerly complied and buried himself under the warm blanket.
Len lay his head on the pillow as he flipped his lamp off. Turning his body around to face pit who had already closed his eyes.
“He's already asleep?”
slowly raising his hand he gently placed it on pits cheek, rubbing it with his thumb. He pressed his forehead against pits and began to close his eyes.
A small giggle made him open his eyes again.
“Wa-hehe what are you doing?”
Pit said with a toothy grin.
Len froze, begrudgingly allowing the embarrassment to take over, just as it had earlier
“i uh- uhm- nothing!”
pit pinched lens cheeks
“suuure and pigs can fly!”
pit joked, len raised an eyebrow
“you mean when pit can fly?”
pit groaned and turned over before adding
“I'll allow it this once!”
len wrapped his arms around pit
“its only one letter off! i think its the universe's way of teasing you”
“goodnight len” pit said as though it were a command
“goodnight” len replied.
