Son of Who?

Summary:

“Look, there’s no time to explain, we have to go. Now.” He takes Suo’s hand.

Suo yanks it right back.

“Son.” The stranger warns. Angrily, he might add.

“I am not your son!”

“Except you are.”

The hell? Like he's going to believe anything this guy says. Why should he? Some stranger just randomly shows up and claims to be his biological father? No, he won't believe it.

“Okay.” The third person joins the conversation. “That’s the last of them. We need to go before more show up.”

“Who the hell are you two and why am I any of your concern?!”

“We’re you’re parents.”

The hell they are.

Notes:

I saw an edit on the clock app that inspired this fic. Fowinii I think is the creator. Apologies if I spelled that wrong.
As usual I don't continue a work until we reach a certain number of hits and it seems to be well received. I have fourteen open works right now that I need to finish.

Work Text:

The moment he woke up, Suo knew something was wrong. The problem was, that well, nothing was wrong. He woke, showered, got dressed for school, his first day of senior year, he’s so excited to be done. He’s never really fit in, never really made a lot of friend. A lot of rumors spread around the school about him. The reason he was in foster care so long before finally being adopted. He’s possessed apparently. No one wants to accept medical deformity as anything other than a demon possession.

Suo double checked that he had everything before heading downstairs. His mom is already in the kitchen cooking breakfast. His dad was sitting at the table reading his paper and drinking his morning coffee.

He chuckles at the spread across the counter. “Why so much?”

His mom turns to him and grins. “It’s your first day of senior year.”

He chuckles. “Okay, thanks mom.”

His parents are young for having a teenager but they we’re having trouble getting pregnant and turned to adoption. That’s when they took him in. He was reluctant to go and the priest and nurses we’re reluctant to give him up, because well, he’s apparently possessed but his parents insisted and he’s been with them ever since he was twelve.

“Morning mommy!”

Too bad, he’s not an only child. His thorn is here. His little sister. She’s five and today is her first day of kindergarten. They finally got pregnant with her after they adopted him. And she’s your typical annoying little sister. Always trying to get into his room and take his stuff.

His parents chuckle.

“Morning baby. I made breakfast.”

“Yes!” She climbs into the stool next to him and begins to eat.

“Okay.” His father sets his items down on the table and stands. “Finish in a timely manner I am taking you today.”

“Awww.” His sister whines with a mouth full of food. “But mommy.”

Their parents chuckle.

“Sorry baby, but mommy has an early appointment this morning, so I am going straight over there.”

Suo frowns. “You okay?”

She smiles. “I’m just fine, just routine.”

He doesn’t like her tone. Something is wrong, but she obviously doesn’t want to share so he drops it and doesn’t push her for further information.

When his father drops him off he heads straight for his locker. Ignoring the onlookers and whispers of the mob of gossipers around him. When he reaches his locker he just puts in his combination and gets ready for homeroom. He got his schedule at open house so he already knows where he’s heading.

“Hayato!”

He sighs. “Haruka.” Sakura, his best and only friend. He also gets picked on a lot, but it doesn't bother him as much as it bothers Suo. Sakura has heterochromia and his hair is two different shades. At least they don’t think he’s cursed like they do Suo.

“First day as Senior's man, shouldn’t you be more excited?”

He shrugs. “I guess.” He’s more than ready for the last day. To get out of this place. To finally be rid of the whispers and gossip. He already knows he’s doing college online. It’s not worth it to him. He already discussed it with his parents; they were more than willing to accommodate his feelings. He’s so done with bullies.

“You got business first, right?”

He nodded.

“Great, me too, let’s go.”

Sakura takes his hand and drags him to class before the bell rings. Because he only has one working eye it would be easier for him to sit up front. However, because he’s supposedly cursed he’s made to sit in the back. Don’t know how that makes any sense, wouldn’t they want to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t attack from behind?

Regardless, Sakura drags him to the back and they sit next to each other.

As the day went on he still couldn’t’ shake the feeling that something was wrong. That nagging feeling that something was coming, something bad. Not that he’s not used to bad things happening.

He spends lunch where he always spends lunch, on the roof. Sakura of course joins him.

“Those people don’t matter. Who needs friends when we have each other.”

Suo cracks a small smile. “Yeah.”

“Hey, so, there was something I wanted to talk to you about.”

He frowns. “Okay?”

“After I graduated I was going to move in with Endo.”

Ugh, the boyfriend. The boyfriend that’s older by two years. The boyfriend that graduated, barely, while they were sophomores. The boy that wooed his friend from the moment they walked through the door's freshmen year. If anyone is cursed it’s Endo. Well, maybe not cursed but a bad influence. A thug. Suo doesn’t like him, but Sakura loves him so Suo keeps his mouth shut.

“And I know that you plan on doing school online.”

Oh no, what’s he about to say.

“You should totally move in with us.”

He snorts. “And listen to you have sex all day, I don’t think so.”

Sakura rolls his eyes. “We’ll have class too. So, it won’t be all day.”

Suo chuckles. “Fair enough, but my answer is still no.”

“Aw come on man, you’ll be a freshman in college, living with your parents is lame.”

It was Suo’s turn to roll his eyes. “I happen to like my parents. Thank you very much.”

“You’re my best friend, and I just want to continue that relationship into college.”

Suo smiles. “While I appreciate that, I’m staying home.”

Sakura clicks his tongue. “Lame.”

Suo chuckles.

After lunch he still couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. He looked around, feeling eyes on the back of him, watching him, but he can’t find anyone or anything.

“Something wrong?” His friend asks.

Suo frowns. “I don’t know, something just feels off.”

“How so?”

Suo shrugs. “I just feel like I’m being watched.”

“I mean, there’s people all around us.”

Suo shakes his head. “No that’s not it.” He looks around some more. Something catches his eye. Whomever they are quickly ducks behind the wall. “I have to use the restroom; you go ahead to class. I’ll catch up.”

His friend frowns. “Yeah, sure.”

“Take my bag for me?”

His friend nodded and took his bag.

Suo quickly took off and tried to catch up to whomever they were. When he rounds the corner into the next hall, nothing. He scans the crowd of students and whomever they are ducks into another hallway. Damn, why does the school have to be such a maze? All he can tell is they look like a bride. Dressed in all white, long flowy brown hair. But he can’t see their face. He follows them around another corner, but it’s a dead end. Just a corner they keep the trophy shelves in.

“The hell?”

“Well, well, well.”

He groans. Shit. Seems like it was a trap.

“Seems we caught ourselves a demon boys.”

Suo sighs and turns to face his punishment for falling for such an obvious trap. “Endo.”

His friend's boyfriend smirks.

“Aren’t you supposed to be, you know, not here? Since you graduated and all.”

Endo shrugs. “Picking up some things.”

Of course.

“Plus, I’m checking in with my boys here.”

Right, how stupid of Suo to assume he was rid of Endo forever. He sighs again. “Fine, just get it over with, just not the face please?”

“Now where’s the fun in that?”

Right.

After his daily ‘beat the devil out of him’  beating that seems to have started early this year, he did actually go to the restroom to clean up.

He checks his uniform and cleans it of dirt and scuff marks. He washes his face and removes it other earring since the first one was removed for him, forcibly. He puts them in his pocket, then pulls out a band aid to cover the damage to his earlobe from his earring being ripped out. . He puts some eyes drops in his eyes before covering his ‘demon’ eye with a fresh eye patch since his other one was ripped in the scuffle.

Suo dries his tears and washes his face one more time before collecting himself and heading to his next class.

“Hey, is everything okay? You skip?”

He shakes his head no. “Just fell and spent it in the nurse's office.”

His friend frowns. He looks Suo over. “Oh, okay.”

Suo has a seat next to his friend.

“You sure that you’re okay?”

He nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He just has to get through two more classes. “Just ready to get home.”

Sakura hums. “Okay, if you’re sure.”

“I’m sure.”

“You find what was bothering you?”

He shakes his head. “No, think I’m just going crazy.”

Because this was the first day there were no clubs today, so he and his friend headed straight outside. Towards the buses and parent pick up line, which wasn't very long. Most seniors drove themselves anyway.

Sakura giggles the moment he spots his ride. His friend picks up his pace and runs up to Endo.

Endo grins and accepts the embrace Sakura gives him. Then they kiss.

Cringe.

Suo hates that Endo acts like he didn’t just sucker punch him just a few hours ago.

Suo looks around and doesn’t spot either of his parents. Is he a senior? Yes. Can he drive himself if he so pleases? Also yes, but he doesn’t want to. Plus a car isn't in his budget.

“Need a ride?”

Ugh. He looks at them. “No thank you.”

“It’s not a problem, right babe?” Sakura smiles up at Endo.

Endo grins. Suo hates him so damn much. “No, no problem at all.”

“Thank you, but no, my mom will be here any minute.”

“Okay, if you’re sure.” His friend frowns.

He nodded. “I’m sure. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Suo doesn’t wait for a response and walks towards the benches to wait for one of his parents.

When most of the students are gone and neither of his parents have showed up he pulls out his phone to call them to find out where they are.

Neither of them are picking up their phones.

He even tries the house.

Nothing. Not even Hana. She loves answering the phone.

What is going on? Neither of them told him to take the bus today, so he assumed they were going to pick him up.

Is his siter stranded too? No, she only does half days so she should be home with them. Maybe they went out and forgot to tell him. Lost track of time.

Suo just orders a ride and hopefully they get a hold of him while he waits.

When his driver drops him off, the tingle on the back of his neck freaks him out. Both of his parents' cars are in the driveway, so they’re definitely home, but something is wrong. Suo shakes the feeling and walks towards their front door.

His skin crawls the moment he opens the door.

“Mom? Dad?”

No answer.

“Hana?”

Suo walks further into the house. When he enters the kitchen, he stops in his tracks. “Mom?” She’s lying there in a pool of what looks like blood. Throat wide open, blood dripping slowly, like the wound is not fresh. “Dad?” His dad is on top of her, like he was trying to protect her. He runs to them. “Mom! Dad!” Up close he can now see that his dads throat is cut too. What the hell kind of monster did this?

They are not moving, waking, or responding.

He starts to cry. “Mom! Dad! Please?” He begs them, begs them to wake up.

Something on the back of his neck tingles, and he turns around to see someone dressed in all black swinging something towards him. He’s about to die with them. Suo just closes his eyes and accepts his fate. What’s he supposed to do? His life is gone, if it ever was there to begin with. The teasing will end. The bullying will end. He'll never have to deal with Endo ever again, but then again he'll never see his best friend again.

Except the hit never comes.

Suo peeks his eye open and there’s the figure from school. Holding back the guy with ribbon(?)

“You.”

The figure ignores him as he starts to fight off the person. Suo takes advantage of the distraction and shoots upstairs to find his sister. Except another attacker pops out of nowhere. He ducks and barely misses the sword coming at him. Another figure pops out of nowhere and throws his attacker into the wall. With butterflies(?)

Suo screeches and runs to his sisters room.

“Wait!”

Hell no, he’s not stopping for shit. Except for the moment he opens the door, he sees the reason they warned him to stop. He trembles. There on her bed is his sister. Eyes blown wide her neck wide open as well. He drops to his knees. “No.”

“XieLian, we have to go!”

“I’m working on it!”

What the hell is happening right now?

“Son, we have to go.”

Ignoring the son comment, he shakes his head. “I don’t know you, why the hell would I leave with you?”

“You want to die instead?” The black-haired stranger blocks another attack in his direction.

Yes. He no longer has any reason to live. “Why couldn’t you save them?” He sneers.

The guy sighs. “We’ve been watching you all day, we didn’t think they’d kill them.”

“Who the hell is they?”

The guy sighs again. “Hunters.” He says matter of fact. Like that’s supposed to mean something to Suo.

“What?”

“They’re after you because you’re half demon.”

Nope.

“Your family just happened to be in their way.”

He growls. “So, what, the school sent them or something?” Why is that the first explanation that his messed-up brain could come up with. His school being so against him that they sent assassins to kill him and his family.

Some stranger just randomly shows up and claims to be his father? No, he won't believe it.

“Okay.” The third person joins the conversation. “That’s the last of them. We need to go before more show up.”

“Who the hell are you two and why am I any of your concern?!”

“We’re you’re parents.”

The hell they are. He decides to express that thought out loud. “The hell you are! My parents are downstairs.” Dead.

“We don’t have time for this.” He looks up at the person behind Suo. “He’s your son, you deal with him.” The guy stands and walks behind Suo.

“Ours.” The guy corrects.

The hell is going on? He’s dreaming? Hallucinating? None of this is real. He’s going to wake up any second and that will be his real first day of school. Just a terrible nightmare because he’s cursed.

“Sorry about this, but San Lang insists.”

He turns to look at the stranger and quirks a brow. “What?”

The guy touches his forehead and his world is suddenly black.  He’s dead isn’t he? Guess he got that wish after all.
