Take Me To Church

Summary:

Lauren goes to church... or, Roberto and Joseph seem to be sneakily plotting something. Joseph asks Lauren to go with them and he agrees, silently plotting what to force Joseph to do as payback, however.

Notes:

The priests belong to Vatican Miracle Examiner

Lauren belongs to the Vatican (and Vatican Miracle Examiner)

Naio and Nile are an unknown mix (Naio) and an Ibizan x Pharaoh hound (Nile)

I need a really convincing reason...well, maybe just the fact it's Hiraga asking

Work Text:

Lauren eyed Hiraga, giving him a look that might stop a deer dead in its tracks. However, this was Hiraga, and he was used to seeing these kinds of looks by now. He'd actually gotten used to them some time ago. Even so, he chuckled and asked "Why are you looking at me like that?" Lauren huffed, saying "I feel like you are plotting something..." Hiraga chuckled again, shaking his head, then looked up at the rap on the metal bars of the cell.

"Ah, Roberto, you're here." Lauren gave another look, this one doubly laden with irritation, as now he just knew something was up...Hiraga gave a nervous laugh, feeling the look burning into his back. He shook his head, then glanced at Lauren, waving a hand up and down. Lauren sighed, shaking his head and adjusting his glasses. "So, what do you two want, then?" he asked.

Roberto shook his head, saying "So quick to assume we want something." Lauren shot him a semi frigid look, turning his attention to Joseph instead. Joseph chuckled nervously, sighing afterward. "Come to church, Lauren." he said simply, the look on his face showing worry the invitation would be immediately shot down. The orangey brown haired male did indeed end up with a look on his face like he would say no.

He saw the pleading behind the worry in Hiraga's eyes, and sighed as he said "Fine, I will go...But I won't be happy about it..." Joseph was so happy, he missed the wicked streak in Lauren's eyes. Roberto missed it too, or so he was very convincing in acting like he did...Lauren tilted his head, wondering how they'd convinced anyone in the Vatican to allow this, as one of the guys who'd put the poison laden cuffs on his ankles came to change the range for just today.

"You're free to go." the guy said, tipping his hat to the priests before walking off. Joseph flapped a hand at Lauren, following Roberto from the cell and up the stairs. Lauren adjusted his glasses, then followed them. Roberto slid into the driver's seat of a car, Joseph slipping into the passenger side seat, so Lauren took the back, which suited him just fine. The whole ride there, he sat with one leg up on the seat, his arm around said leg and the fingers of the other hand tapped on that arm.

To say Lauren was completely taken by surprise to be greeted by two dogs upon getting out of the car might be an understatement. Roberto and Joseph smiled fondly at the dogs, as a female's voice called "Naio, Nile! Don't run off like that." and a redhead came into view. Lauren tilted his head, studying the young woman then the dogs. "Naio is the one with one floppy ear, both of Nile's stand up." Joseph told the hacker. "Ah." Lauren said, as the redhead said "Ko! Robbie. Still wish you'd let me call you Ro...Seriously, it'd be cute, you two rhyming."

Roberto shook his head, saying "Uh uh, no way. Maybe one day I'll appreciate that, but today is not that day. Sorry, Jess." She huffed, sighing, then shrugged and said "Come on in." Roberto and Joseph nodded, making sure Lauren was following. He seethed a bit that they were checking on him, but didn't say anything. Lauren didn't really pay much attention to the sermon or anything, but he found there were a few songs he actually liked. He was a bit surprised to see the redhead and the two dogs out in the Narthex, at the bench there.

She was sitting on it, and they were lying at her feet. She raised a hand in greeting, but Lauren noticed she didn't look at him. "She's shy." Joseph supplied, and Lauren nodded. He squeaked, actually squeaked, when Nile walked over to him, the Egyptian dog sniffing at his leg then wagging the long and thin tail he sported. Lauren gave the smallest flicker of a half smile, scratching behind the big ears, then followed the priests to the car. "How was it?" Hiraga asked, and he said "There was alright music..." Joseph chuckled, and turned on the car radio. Silence, all the way home, save for the music.
