Work Text:
Fadime sat on her bed with a pillow she was clutching to her abdomen.
She tried to take a deep breath, somehow calm herself down but her body didn't seem to cooperate.
Her eyes flickered to the white dress that was lying on the ground.
Not Sirin Furtuna's dress she had to wear as she was marrying her enemy because the man who killed her father wanted her dead, but the beautiful wedding dress she and Iso picked together with the hopes of an actual real marriage.
No, she had to correct herself, she was the one with those hopes.
Because how could Iso ever think lying to her for months would be okay? How was he able to look at her face and admit his love to her all the while knowing the huge secret that's been kept from her and her brother?
She had asked him. She had freaking asked him.
And he said that he didn't know the secret.
And she gave him her trust, not too long before giving him her heart.
He was the first person she wanted to talk about when her brother told her Eleni was his daughter. All Fadime wanted to do was run towards him and tell him the news. And she would've had if her brother didn't ask her not to. She would've hugged him with the news sinking in, tell him with happy tears running on her cheeks and would've watched his reaction.
But he already knew it. And instead of telling her, he kept it to himself.
He held her sobbing after her brother finding out about the truth about their marriage, he braided her hair right before talking about choosing each other, he stood up against his mother for her as she was crying for her brother who they had thought was dead.
He said he loved her. He said that he wanted a real marriage with her. With a real wedding and even henna. She would pick whatever wedding dress she wanted and even that snake who was supposed to be his mother wouldn't be there. Esme would've been the one doing the henna and maybe they would've even had another salty coffee memory together.
He said he wanted their own separate house. Where they would live together, away from their families and their chaos that kept swallowing them whole. Where they would have their own little family.
And she foolishly thought that this was it. He was it.
But the man who was talking about choosing each other turned out to be choosing his own family all along. He was protecting them and their secrets even when it cost her happiness and trust.
What was he planning to do? Act like he never found out and lie to her for the rest of their lives? Would he have faked a surprised face when she told him?
Was this the man she trusted more than she trusted herself? Her husband who would never ever cheat on her but would have no problems with keeping secrets?
We are Kocaris, they are Furtunas. We either betray each other or kill each other.
Iso did both. He betrayed her and her trust. And he killed the woman in her that was left when the enmity was out of her system. The woman they promised to discover together. The woman who would marry the man that was left of him when the enmity was out.
At the end, it all came back to this, didn't it?
To the feud and bloodshed between their families.
To the fights and deaths that have been surrounding them since they were born.
To the reason they both had to grow up without the love of a father they both craved so much.
His mother sold her niece and he kept it a secret. Why, if not because of their families? Why, if not to protect his own family from hers?
Furtuna family took her father first. And then her mother.
She was an orphan who only had her brother who was in jail.
Even her enemy pitied her as she was lying sick with fever, alone because she had no one.
Furtunas took the woman her brother loved. Left the shell of the cheerful man her brother once was. Turned that happy boy into a young adult who had to raise his sister.
They took her niece, who could've grown up together with her. They sold her to a different country where she grew up speaking another language, calling different people her family.
They tried to take her brother. She heard the gunshot and she watched him fall to the sea, helplessly. She screamed and cried for him, not knowing what else she could do.
But it turned out, that wasn't enough.
Iso Furtuna held her hand as they walked into the wedding hall together, all their loved ones watching.
She had no idea then that soon, she would be losing her heart to Furtunas too.
And who was she going to be then? When it was her own shattered heart instead of the enmity, that was out of her?
