Chapter Text

The world is not kind to those it seems different.

Pedro and Alma knew this.

they were fae.

Fae were not well liked.

But Alma and Pedro figured out they could live their lives peacefully if they promised to use their powers to help the humans around them.

It worked.

Until Alma was pregnant.

Then Pedro realized this wasn't sustainable.

he didn't want to constantly feed the humans some miracles or powers to make sure that they wouldn't hurt them. Or kill them.

He didn't want to risk his children.

So he tried to talk to them.

To reason with them.

He died.

Alma ran with her children.

She hid.

she found a home, and she hide her magic.

it worked.

Her children were raised to hide who they were.

Bruno did not like this.

Pepa had a hard time with this.

Pepa was a weather fae, which is very hard to hide.

Alma hated having to make her hide things.

But it was what was best.

Julieta was a healing fae. completely and totally easy to hide.

Bruno was also easy to hide, as a Seer Fae but he didn't.

Or he did.

But he hid his entire self, hiding in his room.

Never leaving the house.

Julieta brought back a clumsy man.

But after a few times, Bruno pulled on her arm and told her that he knew this was also a hiding mythological creature.

Alma cornered Agustin.

And pushed his hair back, revealing pointed ears.

he was an elf.

Alma wanted to chase him away, not wanting another person to hide, but Julieta begged.

So she let him stay.

Pepa was rescued from an abandoned well she fell into by a dwarf, a cheerful dwarf, named Felix.

As gratitude, Alma let him stay.

Julieta had a baby. A nature fae.

Pepa had a baby.

But not one who was dwarven.

Or fae.

Alma made a note to watch her.

It would be wonderful if that big eyed baby was human...but Alma had no idea how that would be possible.

Julieta had a second baby.

but before Alma could decide if this child was fae or elvish...

A dragon attacked the home and took her with them.

Julieta and Agustin and Pepa and Bruno and Felix all ran after her.

And they found her.

But she had been changed.

Changed by dragon venom, to be a Dragonkin.

Impossible to hide the scales that broke out over Luisa's body.

Alma kept her in the house that Felix rebuilt.

Pepa had a second baby.

They were even more vigilant.

he was a fae.

A shapeshifting fae.

And Julieta had a third baby.

Dolores waited until the day was over.

Everyone was vigilant since Luisa had been taken and turned into Dragonkin...

But eventually they all slept.

Except for her.

The six year old grinned down at the baby, showing her lost tooth.

"Come on."

Dolores carried her prima out of the house.

But Bruno followed her.

To the river.

Moonlight shone brightly on the two of them.

"Finally I'm not alone." Dolores whispered.

the moment Dolores stepped into the water, magic swirled.

Giving her finned ears, blue skin, an ethereal quality to her...

Bruno put his hand over his mouth. A siren.

How the heck did a dwarf and a weather fae have a baby siren?!

He almost forgot about that when Dolores placed Mirabel in the water. Mirabel's hair turned blue.

And before his eyes, the baby became a watery horse figure.

"A kelpie?" Bruno gasped.

he didn't speak very loudly.

But he spoke loud enough that Dolores whirred around and he hid.

Dolores narrowed her eyes, and picked Mirabel up.

She shook herself off, turning her back into the human figure that everyone thought that she was.

She dried Mirabel off, and Mirabel looked like a little baby.

Dolores sighed and headed back into the house.

"How?" Bruno sputtered.

"How does a weather fae and a dwarf have a siren? How does a Elf and a healing fae have a kelpie!?"

"Bruno..."

Bruno tensed as the porch light turned on.

"Mama!"

"Everything okay?"

"Si."

He tried to smile at his mother who smiled gently.

"Come inside then. It's not normal to be out after dark."

Bruno nodded.

He looked back towards the river.

His eyebrows furrowed.

he had a lot of things to think about.

A lot more things to learn.
