Chapter Text
Xavier Mansion
"Kurt!" Jean screamed, chasing after the blue menace. "That last cookie was mine!"
Kurt was appearing, disappearing, and reappearing further and further away, finally just hanging from the chandelier with his tail as he ate the cookie in one bite. "Too late. You gotta be faster than that." He chuckled as he swung by his tail.
"I hope you choke on it, Kurt!" Jean grumbled, using her telekinesis to unwrap his tail, making him gasp before he fell.
POOF
"That was a little childish." Kurt laughed, transferring up right on the floor.
The click of the double doors made Kurt flinch, pressing the button on the side of the watch Hank made. Charles Xavier rolled in, seeing Jean and Kurt in the foyer, and could tell Kurt was being his usual chaotic self. Ororo and a young girl, who was trying her best not to look up from the floor, walked in after the Professor, immediately catching Kurt's attention. She had long black hair covering her face, with a dark hoodie over black jeans.
"Jean. Kurt." Professor Xavier called to them gently. "Go gather the rest of the students, we have a new addition I'd like to introduce."
The girl scoffed, shouldering her dark green duffle bag as she turned to look around, revealing her sad purple eyes. "Not like it'll make a difference." She grumbled under her breath, shifting uncomfortably on her feet. "They're just gonna forget."
"You'd be surprised, Violet." Ororo said softly, placing a hand on the girl's arm. "Let's go put your things in your room."
"I told you, Violet, we will help you master your abilities." Xavier promised, looking back at Jean and Kurt. "We'll meet in the dining room."
Within a few minutes, all the other students, as well as Logan and Hank were sitting at the table, waiting for the introduction of a new mutant.
"I wonder what she's like." Kitty Pryde spoke with glee, she was the outgoing one of the bunch. "Do you think she'll be our friend right away?"
"I just wanna know what kind of powers she has." Rogue said with a yawn. "It'd also be nice to have a new face around here."
"What was she like, Jean?" Kitty asked Jean, practically jumping in her seat. "You saw her walk in, right?"
Jean looked puzzled for a moment, before shrugging. "I don't know. I didn't get a good look at her"
"She seemed like she didn't want to be here." Kurt said, still in his human disguise. "Like she couldn't wait to leave."
"That's not surprising." Scott said solemnly as he sat up and crossed his arms. "Most of us had the same feeling when we first got here."
"No, it was different." Kurt argued, thinking on how to explain. "She seemed like she didn't think she belonged here or something."
Logan whispered to Hank, trying not to let the kids hear him. "Should we be concerned about Jean not seeing the kid?"
Hank shook his head, watching Kurt like he was thinking of a solution. "No, but Kurt seemed to have not been affected by her. That's quite odd."
"Her own parents." Logan growled under his breath, he had seen the report before Violet walked in. "You would think they never had a kid at all."
"That's why the Professor insisted we get her sooner rather than later." Hank sighed. "Blood relations seem not to have any immunity to her abilities."
The conversations stopped when Xavier and Ororo walked in with Violet in tow, walking in like she was being sent to the executioner. The other students glanced at her for a moment, before their attention drifted to the adults, like Violet wasn't even there. Kurt saw her right hand squeezing her left wrist, like she was anxious to leave.
Xavier saw this and glanced back at Violet, seeing her unaffected by the shift, he sighed before addressing everyone. "Starting today, I would like for you all to welcome Violet, she will be staying with us from now on." He held out his hand to Violet, motioning for her to step out of the shadows. "Come on, My Dear. You are among friends."
Violet stepped forward, noticing that only Kurt seemed to even look in her direction, she wasn't expecting anyone to look her way. "Hi, don't worry about knowing me, you'll forget soon enough."
Kurt tilted his head, raising his hand before speaking up. "Can I be the one to show her around, Professor?"
Everyone else looked at Kurt, then glanced at Violet, like they just now spotted her.
"I'm so sorry, Violet." Kitty smacked her head, like she was getting after herself for being rude. "I'm Kitty." The others followed suit.
"Rogue."
"Spyke."
"Jean." She introduced herself before elbowing Scott.
"Scott." He grumbled, rubbing the back of his neck, a little embarassed.
"I'm Kurt Wagner." Kurt got up from his seat, walking to extend his hand to Violet, pulling it back when she didn't reach for his hand. "I can show you around."
Xavier and the other adults were all surprised when Kurt was the only student that didn't look back at the Professor, he kept his full attention on Violet. "Uh, as you can see, Violet's mutation, is rather unique. She has Perception Influence. Which is why you couldn't recall anything specific about her, Jean."
"What does that mean?" Rogue asked, completely confused. "Percept-"
"It means none of you will remember meeting me." Violet crossed her arms, turning to leave before muttering. "Just like everyone else, I told you there was no point." She walked off, heading back to the room she was assigned. "I just wanna be left alone."
"Violet." Ororo called gently, going after Violet and walking with her. "You will not be forgotten here. We can help you, when you're ready."
"It's not gonna work." Violet sighed, shoving her hands into her hoodie pocket. "I've tried. Failed. And I'm fine with no one remembering me. Not worth the effort."
Neither woman noticed Kurt following them, he had heard Violet saying she just wanted to be alone and couldn't help but follow her. 'What was the Professor talking about? Percep- Whatever. She seems like she needs a friend.'
Logan grabbed Kurt's shoulder, pulling him back to the group still in the dining room. "We're not done, Blue Boy."
"I just wanted to talk to her." Kurt groaned, going back to his seat at the table and sitting down with a huff.
"Talk to who?" Kitty asked, confused.
"Violet." Kurst said, a little irritated.
"Who?" All of the students asked in unison.
"That's why I wanted to speak to all of you after she left." Xavier kept an eye on Kurt, seeing how his attention was on the hallway Ororo and Violet walked out in. "That is quite interesting."
"What is, Professor?" Scott sat up, remembering that there was a new girl they were just introduced to. "Wait, she just left and I can't remember-"
"That is, unfortunately, her mutation." Hank sighed, sitting at the opposite side of the table as he looked at the teenagers. "Violet is rather impossible to remember when you are ill prepared to do so. Which is why we introduced her this way, to show you rather than just tell you."
"Exactly." Logan huffed, leaning against the wall. "Her own family couldn't e-"
"Logan." Xavier warned, glaring at his friend. "That is not for them to know, unless Violet tells them. Just try to be aware that we have a new mutant, and try to reach out to her if you can. Violet will not be joining you in classes just yet, we need to ensure her powers are under some control so she can attend without causing further issues."
"Yes, Professor." They all agreed.
"You all can go, finish your homework and chores." Xavier glanced behind him, down the hallway. "I don't expect Violet to join us for dinner, but be mindful if she chooses to join."
The students all left, Kurt immediately running back down the hallway as the adults, minus Ororo reconvened. The three of them sat at the table.
"Her parents really forgot about her?" Hank asked timidly.
"Unfortunately." Xavier rubbed his head, remembering how he had to break the news that they were parents to a teenager. "Not out of malice, like most of the students we've rescued. They just couldn't retain their memories of her. Her mother nearly collapsed when Violet came downstairs, from the heartbreak of forgetting her own daughter. She looks just like her mother."
"I see." Hank looked down at Violet's file. "The school she attended? No records? Not even a teacher or friend remembered her?"
"No, same result." Xavier sighed. "She had no one that could remember her."
"Blue Boy seemed to be remembering her just fine." Logan glanced back down the hallway, sniffing deeply. "I think he's looking for her."
"Why would Kurt be immune to her abilities?" Hank pondered out loud, rubbing his chin. "Could it be because of his teleporting abilities? No, that doesn't make sense."
"I don't know, Hank." Xavier mumbled to himself, using his telepathy to check on Violet. "Kurt does seem to be drawn to her, and not dissuaded like the others. This could be good for Violet, if it were any of the other students. But Kurt is-"
"Too pushy?" Logan chuckled.
"No, just too eager." Xavier corrected. "I think we should just watch them and intervene if required."
"Agreed." Hank nodded, writing in Violet's file. "Subject Nightcrawler, Kurt Wagner, seems to be the only student that can retain Violet's memory, and is openly seeking her out. Will report if befriending is initiated."
