Chapter Text
After the two had told the boss, he was oddly accepting of it. As long as he got to speak to Jabber about some things.
“I already told the Boss, uhh Zodyl, that I won’t give him information about y’all,” He said, scratching his head, “Didn’t wanna get Zan Zan caught in the crossfire or whatever.”
“Alright.” Corvus replied, “I don’t mind you coming and going, but for now, only select cleaners will know you’re allowed entry.”
The man didn’t have any obvious animal characteristics—as far as Jabber could tell he didn’t have any protruding ears nor a tail.
Maybe it was in his nature to keep things to himself.
Corvus had been asking him questions for a little while; it wasn’t long enough to bore Jabber yet. The cat was standing in front of his desk, answering his questions obediently. God, he hated having to talk about stuff like this.
He didn’t care as much, it was for Zanka after all.
"That's all,” He said, "Don't let too many people see you.”
"Alright…” Jabber replied, already walking out the door, he just wanted to go and kick back with Zanka!
The hallways were pretty empty, Corvus probably made sure they would be so no one would see him.
There was someone though. A small, short girl, with some fucked up bangs.
She walked with a slight uncertainty, a short hesitation in her steps. For some reason, she looked at Jabber—rather, looked through him.
She seemed to be inspecting him of some sorts, had she met him before? He would’ve remembered a person like that.
Oh! She had those boots, the watchman series ones! She was probably that girl the cleaners were looking for a while back!
The girl stepped towards him, gazing up at him.
“What?” Jabber asked, was she trying to square up with him? He swore he never did anything.
“You have a very calming scent,” She spoke softly.
Scent? Was she some predator looking for a snack? What the hell was she talking about?
Now that Jabber got a closer look at her he noticed her eyes, those horizontal pupils. She was no predator, quite the opposite in fact.
A lamb, so why was she trying to square up with him?
“What’s my scent got to do with you?” Jabber asked with a scoff. The nerve of the lamb honestly impressed him though.
“Oh sorry, Amo didn’t mean anything bad by it!” She apologized, “I meant that you smell good! You carry the scent of love! It’s a very precious thing.”
The scent of love? It honestly just sounded like she was spitting shit at him, but it didn’t really matter.
Jabber chuckled, “Love?” He lifted his arm, sniffing it. There was no scent of love or whatever…What did love even smell like? The only scent that lingered on him was that weird expensive soap Zanka had been using. “I don’t smell it.”
The girl tilted her head, those long flopped ears following along with the movement.
“Oh, it’s probably something only Amo can smell,” She explained, “I can make scents with my Boots, so Amo remembers how certain things smell like.”
Making scents…That sounded crazy interesting! Jabber needed to see that in action, but he couldn’t stay in the hallway too long.
What could making scents even do to an enemy? It was probably crazy strong, that’s probably why Boss wanted them in the first place.
“Mmm, well I gotta go,” Jabber stated, already walking away, “I wanna see those Boots in action some time though!”
“Okay!” Amo replied with a smile, she’d never seen that guy before, but he seemed nice. The scent of love was wafting off of him, it had to be the strongest she’s ever smelt. Even under that, his normal scent was nice.
Like a soft lavender, yet mixed with hard metallic scents. It was unique to say the least—but Amo liked it. She’d never observed a person like that before!
Wait, she forgot to ask his name!
She was already going into uncle Corvus’ office, so she could just ask him. She opened the big doors to see him sitting at his desk like usual.
“Uncle Corvus,” She walked up to his desk, “Who was that guy that just walked out of here?”
Corvus looked up at her, tilting his head a bit, “No one that you need to worry about. Why, did he say something?”
Amo shook her head, “No, Amo just noticed that he had a really strong scent of love! I want to talk to him again sometime…He seemed fun.”
Corvus chuckled, standing up and patting Amo on the head.
“Well, the Ground works in mysterious ways, you’ll meet him again. Just don’t tell too many people you saw him, he’s a bit of a secret right now.”
“Okay!” Amo nodded.
.
.
.
“I saw that Amo girl,” Jabber said as he flopped down on Zanka’s bed.
“Amo? Oh, yeah she usually talks with Corvus,” Zanka replied. He was standing in his bathroom, brushing his hair, “Wait, she saw you? I thought no one was supposed to see you?”
Jabber rolled around on the bed, “It’ll probably be fine… Are you done yet?”
The rabbit rolled his eyes, Jabber was always so impatient.
The light filtering through the window shone directly on his bed, encapsulating the cat on it in a halo.
“You’re messin’ up my sheets!” Zanka exclaimed as he walked towards the bed.
“Come on! It doesn’t matter, just get over here,” Jabber sat on the edge leaning back a little.
Zanka came closer, slotting himself between his legs. He looked down at Jabber, who was smiling.
“Ugh, you’re so annoying…” The rabbit scoffed, kissing the one under him on the cheek.
“You say that but still go and kiss me,” Jabber giggled, “I love you Zan Zan!”
Zanka looked away from him, a light blush on his cheeks, before looking back at Jabber.
“I love you too…” He mumbled, kissing Jabber on the lips this time.
