Wei Wuxian is excited to attend Lanling's Sect Leaders' Meeting.
Not because he wanted to meet those peacocks—obviously! He didn't even want to see them, especially their sect leader, Jin Guangshan.
Everyone knew their sect leader was a shameless pervert. Wei Wuxian didn't want his shijie to marry into that sect. The Jins were a pain in the ass, always flaunting their wealth like peacocks showing off their feathers to anyone who would look. And what if that peacock his sister was going to marry turned out like his father, spending all his time in brothels? That would break Shijie's heart.
Or worse. They couldn't trust Jin Guangshan. Who knew what he might do to his sister? Even though he was terrified of Madam Jin and wouldn't dare offend Madam Yu, he still couldn't be trusted. If he even thought about doing something disgusting, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng would castrate him and throw him into the Burial Mounds.
But right now, he was excited to go because he hadn't seen Lan Wangji in months since returning from the Cloud Recesses.
So what if it had only been three months?
Finally, he would be able to see him again. This month's meeting had been called by Jin Guangshan, who had requested that every sect leader bring their heirs and head disciples.
Wei Wuxian tied his hair into his usual ponytail, though more neatly than normal. His robes were free of the wrinkles they usually had. He grabbed Suibian and hurried toward the docks.
When he arrived, Jiang Cheng and Jiang Fengmian were already there waiting for him.
"Jiang-shushu!" he greeted cheerfully.
Sect Leader Jiang nodded back.
Wei Wuxian slung an arm around Jiang Cheng's shoulders.
Jiang Cheng immediately elbowed him in the ribs.
"Took you long enough," he said.
Then he narrowed his eyes and added, "What are you, a young maiden going to meet your lover?"
"Shut up!" Wei Wuxian hissed, though there was no real heat behind the words. He shoved Jiang Cheng, who shoved him right back.
After a few minutes, Madam Yu arrived with her usual scowl, accompanied by Jiang Yanli, who had come to see them off.
Once the farewells were said, they began their journey toward Lanling.
