Chapter Text
It was a typically busy day for Grillby's. The small restaurant was bustling with customers chatting, playing cards, and eating.
Grillby's was often a very busy place due to the warmth drawing in cold Snowdin dwellers, enticing them to warm up and eat a hot meal.
The bustling and warm atmosphere was comforting to Grillby as he constantly ducked in and out of the restaurant and into the kitchen to prepare the customers food.
One particular customer of Grillby's currently resided at the bar, the short skeletons feet swinging as the barstools were almost the same hight of the skeleton himself. Sans was a regular to the establishment, so much so that the other regulars always saved the same spot for the stout skeleton to awkwardly drag himself onto.
"And then I says to him that maybe the guy just needed to grow himself a funny bone!"
Snickers sounded throughout the restaurant as customers listened into Sans' new jokes and stories. Grillby let his flames crackle like a small chuckle as he watched Sans enrapture anyone willing to listen to his jokes and daily escapades. The flame wouldn't admit it but him and Sans had known each other for years now, and in that time the two had grown very fond of each others company.
The day didn't go by slowly or particularly quick as customers steadily flowed in and out, the number of monsters slowly thinning as the day winded down and it got much later. The restaurant settled into a calm silence as the dinner rush ended and the small building was left with only two occupants.
After doing his rounds cleaning the tables and booths Grillby approached the small hooded skeleton with a fiery smile.
Sliding behind the bar Grillby gently tapped the bar counter that Sans was currently resting his skull on. Upon receiving no response Grillby flicked the frontal area of the skeletons cranium, earning Grillby a drawn out groan.
"Well hello there Sans"
The skeleton in question rubbed his skull with a chuckle.
"I get you wanted me to move but geez Grilb, you really havta do that?"
Grillby let out a light sigh knowing that Sans was complaining less about being flicked and more about his nap being interrupted.
The bartender gestured for Sans to pause, earning him a confused look and silence. As Sans sat staring at Grillby, Grillby gently grasped the front of Sans' hoodie and leaned down to give the skeleton a chaste kiss. Sans and Grillby separated, Sans' smile looked more relaxed as the light Grillby emitted lit up the Sans' Skeletal features in a warm orange.
The moment was soft, quiet, all the two had ever really wanted as silence comfortably blanketed them once more, this time with Sans awake.
Grillby exited the bar walking over to Sans and helping him down from the barstool.
"You should probably get home, Papyrus worries for you, you know."
Sans sighed looking at Grillby's face, most likely about to reply when the skeletons eyelights seemed to twinkle brighter. Grillby was immediately suspicious of this as his partner usually gained that excited gleam in his eyelights when planning a prank or if someone had asked him about one of his interests. Seeing as Grillby hadn't said anything although he felt nervous as his short boyfriend dragged him over to the jukebox.
Eyeing Sans, the shorter only winked at him as he began running one of his phalanges down the different listed song before stopping at one and pressing the button. Once the record clicked into place slow melody crackled before smoothing and drifting through the warm restaurant air. Grillby hummed, he still had no idea what Sans was planning but he wasn't feeling as suspicious of whatever Sans was planning. The skeleton in question guided Grillby away from the jukebox, instead shuffling them to the middle of the restaurant.
"Care for a dance Grilb's?"
Grillby let out a crackling chuckle as he took the hand that was offered to him. The dance was an absolute disaster, they constantly stepped on each others toes, Sans had managed to trip himself over, and they were dreadful at avoiding running into tables and booth seats. Despite all this both monsters were laughing as they tripped and stumbled.
"Oooh we're dreadful at this."
Sans chuckled at the fiery bartenders comment.
After their little dancing session had wrapped up, both monsters sore and tired from stumbling around and laughing and also sore from constant collisions with the edges of furniture, the two partners bid each other farewell.
After Sans had left Grillby locked the door to his restaurant and retreated up the stairs to his apartment with a smile hidden behind bright flames.
